I've driven both and must admit I was blown away by the EVO.

It's one of the most amazing cars I've driven.

But at the end of the day it's based on a $15990 drive away crapbox and it shows.

A very good effort by Mitsubishi but comprehensively outclassed by the Skyline

I think you said it the best with that one word. Outclassed. Based of the poverty-pack lancer.

Look at the interior of the EVO's. Plastic, Tacky, and built exactly like the GLI lancer. Sure it looks nice from the outside but any god bodykit can do the same.

And just look at all the EVO-wannabe's in the base-model lancers. Bleh!

A stock evo will take a stock gtr in a quarter mile battle if driven correctly. Ive driven a few now , they are ***ing fast, have a strong gearbox and are rarer than a GTR.

I love the GTR but to diss the EVO like that is wrong. There an aweseom car.

DO a few very small mods and you have a reliable 12second car.

They are over engineered in every way. credit where credits due.

LOL speaking to the wrong guy here

EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO

The GTR is an awesome car dont get me wrong i love em. but they just dont have that aggresive rally look that i crave. look more like the car that the 100k a year jobby guy would have. (we are talking R34 arent we?)

And to say that the evo looks plastic inside i think not (recaro seats, does the GTR have that?). Also the Little ricey P.O.S that go around 1.5L etc are actually modeled of the evo. or so i thought. so the poor man could have his lancer. but then im prolly wrong.

There are many differences betwen the evo and say an MR Lancer. for 1 4WD. So yeah. For A hardcore acceleration rush in stock form id go the EVOevery time.

For a car that for not as much money spent on it to go fast down the QTR id go the GTR.

Also the two cars cant really be compared as the GTR is a track car really (am i right) and the EVo is a Rally car. Two cars built for entirely different purposes

the newer Evo lumbers down 1/4 in mid 13's . The earlier models could do a low 13, if they hook up really well.

Even the old gsr is a bit of a sleeper.

They are still a lancer and as rare as a real evo is the average person cannot distinguish one from the 'girls car model GLi' with a spoiler kit. They are a poxy looking car.

And because they are poxy looking it makes beating a V8 trev all the more enjoyable.

Psiker made a very good comment regarding the original intention of the makers of each car.they are designed differently for different purposes. One is a coupe with a straight six, twin turbos, rear biased 4WD & aimed at track use.The other is a sedan with an East/West 4 cylinder single turbo, full time 4WD & aimed at rally use. Very different cars for very different purposes.

I have a new EVO7 & a R34 GTR. The more I drive them, the more

I appreciate how different they are. Both cars have similar mods -

aftermarket CPUs, good exhausts, both run 18psi boost.the EVO weighs 1380kg, the GTR weighs 1650kg.I have been doing back to back testing in the hills & my evaluation so far is this -

The EVO is slightly faster & more fun to drive on the really tight sections of road & feels very solid on smooth roads. It's responsive engine & 4WD trickery makes it a delight to drive right up towards the limit of sane driving.

The GTR sits better on the road due to it's extra weight & wheelbase. It accelerates harder & longer in each gear, & is not as phased as the EVO on bumpy sections. The attessa 4WD allows

more power oversteer & will hold on up to & beyond the limits of sane driving where the EVO dares not to tread.Last night I had the EVO in a 4 wheel sideways powerslide on an off camber bend.

With cliff-faces either side I had to catch it quick, but due to the very small lock to lock, I overcorrected & proceeded to snake round the corner in a rather messy fashion( read - I nearly lost it big time). The only time I had the GTR this far out of shape was when attempting very crazy entry speeds to similar corners & it was much easier to keep the power on & just drift around the corner in true jap style. So - up to a point, the EVO is very fast, but I think I will leave the kamikaze stuff to the bigger, badder GTR from now on.I'm sure with a bit more practice I will be able to

get the EVO closer to the limits, but perhaps better stick to the track where there is at least some runoff!

So over all my opinion is this -

If you want to take passengers regularly, like hooning around &

want to look trendy when you are cruising - go for EVO.

If pure speed & top end handling is your forte - & you want to go to the next level of class - the GTR wins hands down.

I am directly comparing the best models available, but I think the same applies to the previous models as well.

Ultimately, personal taste is the decision maker. My advice would be to drive at least 3 good examples of each car before any final choice.

evo VI extreme

evo VI zero fighter

One very prime example of the evo i have seen is the EVO VII RS Sprint. not many of them made. what they did was remove all the luxurys that people love (that also weigh the car down) and tune the engine a bit harder. i would love one of these. its lighter than the other evos and faster too boot.

but thats my opinion
