definitly a top bloke , ive asked him before for advice on a suspension setup and within that same day had a reply ,and not a 1 sentence reply, it was a full page worth of info that is priceless.

Thanks guys and gals for the kind comments, I haven’t read them all as it would be embarrassing. Please keep in mind that I learn as much as I impart here on SAU, so it’s a true 2 way flow of information.

For interested readers I should fill you in on the situation.

The build of 7 x RB30s was scheduled to coincide with a slow period in our racing calendar. Unfortunately we were let down by one of our supplies, of course a monopoly. Consequently we had no choice but to wait for that supplier to come good.

When the parts finally arrived several weeks late, the RB30 build then clashed with our annual boat racing engine schedule, where we have 6 x 2,500 bhp supercharged methanol burning race boat engines to rebuild for the coming season. This is contracted annual work, it cannot be delayed, the race season starts whether or not we have finished the rebuilds. So the RB30 engine builds had to wait.

As a few of you know, I got an emergency call to go to Bathurst with a V8Supercar team only 2 weeks before the race. So that put me out of contact for a long period of time, during which I received some 500 emails and PM’s. Under normal circumstances SOSK would help by responding to the easier/straight forward ones. This didn’t happen on this occasion as he has glandular fever and has been off work for 2 weeks. Hence Felix and many other guys only received replies to their emails and PM’s recently. I appologise for the delay and ask for understanding.

Things are now getting back to some semblance of order and the build of the RB30’s is progressing along very rapidly, so Felix will have his engine shortly. I fact I will be at the machine shop tomorrow (Saturday) to take some pictures of the final assembly for him.

Thanks again for the support and whenever and wherever we catch up, remember the Jack Daniels is on you

PS; As many have noticed, the pictures below of my own RB30 were taken some 6 weeks ago, and it hasn't progressed one little bit since. So Felix and the other guys can rest safe in the knowledge that I haven't been spending my time on my own engine and ignoring their's.

Out of interest what do these RB30 motors consist of? Like parts, brands, assembly ect ect?

I'm sure you would get a few PM's asking about the motors.

i don't think many of you get the point of what i am still trying to say

it was suppost to be done in end of may beg of june, but it was pushed back back back back back back back back, lots of promises and none of them came true, there was suppost to be picture update every month as the engine progresses, gary you keep saying, "i am going to go down to the shop to take some pictures" did that ever happen, i don't care if you are busy, a promise is a promise, you can't just open a blank check like that. it just isn't fair for all of us.

you said my engine will be done before dec 25, and that will be shipped out jan 04, now i am hearing from another guy who talked to Milton at Harris engine service saying it's going to be another 6 weeks cuz the guys gota take a holiday, wtf is this, and how come there are so many other engine build got infront of us, it's like every customer they get can budged infront of us. and none of ours are getting where they are suppost to be.

but hey i have to agree on ppl on commenting your knowledge, you do know ur shit. but i need my engine.

again the point is it was promsed to be done, in may, now it's 8 months late, money is stuck in this mess, so i can't go any where.

Felix, I can understand your concerns, and unfortunatly, with builds like this, things always take longer than you think.

I have worked in manufacturing of machinery for 7 years, and I can tell you that things NEVER, EVER in your wildest dreams go smoothly. Even if it's a machine you've build 100 times before.

1 day delay here, another there puts everything out.

An unforseen thing like a week off crook = another week at the end of the job, and that could mean that you miss an opening at a machine shop to get stuff done, which cen then mean to wait for another spot, which could be weeks from then.

It's very frustrating for everyone involved, but sometimes you have to grin and bear it.

Such is life.

I chose Gary because of his reputation and no doubt the wait will be worth while but you guys have got to understand the frustrations when a quoted 6-8week build time is now 10 months down the line without and end in sight. As Felix has stated, regular updates that were promised never appeared so from somebody sat on the other side of the world like we are it can be very hard to accept.

And Gary, if you are reading this, don't spend the time replying, get your arse down to Harris Engines and get them crates packed

Let's hope this story has a happy ending and I am sure Gary will learn as much from this experience as we have.

"Hi Felix, the 5 crates arrived yesterday, 2 engines are for locals so they don't need crates. Packing is done in the order of receipt of the initial payments, so that means your engine is #5 of the 7. The first 2 engines to be loaded are full engines ie; completely assembled with cylinder heads. This takes a day or so each as they require very careful packaging. The next 3 bottom ends are a bit quicker to load ,around half a day each. I was hoping to get all 7 engines out before Xmas, but that simply isn't going to happen. The boys are off between Xmas and New Year ie; from the 22nd December to the 2nd January. So I would expect for yours to be ready to ship around the 4th January, I will let you know when it is ready. "

I agree with felix all you get out of Sydneykid is excuses he never delivers on time.These guys have been waiting for 10 months or more and now the excuse is christmas holidays.If it was anyone but gary (everyones best mate) everyone would be standing up for these guys.All I say is stay on his back.
