ive dealt with gary on a few occasions and found him very helpfull, his advice has always been spot on, and he has always replied to my pm's.this is prob the main reason i went ahead with this engine build with him,i would not have just picked a engine builder at random and sent my hard earned money to anyone.

in the end i want the best engine i can get for my money and this was it, in the uk 11 months ago rb30 engines were not available, a freind of mine is now building his own,cp pistons, spool rods, crank collar,n1 pump, water pump and all the other parts are now ordered and paid for.he has the 4wd sum adapter under way and picks up his old rb30 block next saturday, will prob be built within a month.

even if mine is ready now and shipped its going to be over a month before it gets here,do i start my own build?will i get my money back?

i want to know whats going on with them.

i would rather this be seen in a open forum so all can see any replies,it's not like i am the only in this situation

sounds like to me typcal whinging poms . chill out it will happen ove here in aust the more you whine the longer the job takes . well thats how i work anyways lol

take a chill pill realax and they will arrive

I think you should stay out of this as you do not know the facts :P

No one would be worried if there were genuine reasons for things to take long, or if that possibility had been stated before the order was placed.

The facts are quite different to the original agreed terms. End of.

so in austrailia you give someone $5000 deposit for a 6to8 week engine build, and just wait over 11months for any news,i dont think so.

i havnt hassled or moaned at gary about this matter until now all in all ive sent him 5 pm's since march 2006

i hav'nt got any probs with sk like i said he has always been very helpfull,hi is the man to ask for all your needs and if he said it would take this long to build a engine fair enough.

and i know what its like to be moaned at and hassled by whinging poms i live with them, and i must admit it can make me take my time or fit another job in in front of them, but even i would sort it eventualy

You're all missing the point completely.

Nobody is doubting SydneyKid is a great guy. We all see him as a great part of the community and appreciate his help and advice. He's trustworthy and in no way a scammer. Nobody ever doubted this.

The point to the thread is that engines were ordered 11 months ago and promised on multiple occasions and SydneyKid has not met the deadlines. Customers are getting angry, and these said customers deserve some answers. As I said earlier, either their engines, or their money should be refunded so that they can go get it built elsewhere and get their cars back on the road.

You are forgetting there are people who have had no car for almost a year now because they keep getting told that their engine is coming, and it still hasn't arrived.

How would you be feeling if YOU were waiting almost a year for your engine to get a simple rebuild, and didn't have your car for that long??? Regardless of who was building it, you would be quite peeved yes??

Chris before you run your mouth off like an idiot how about you pay attention to the rest of the thread.

These guys aren't running their mouths off for no reason, they're not even slagging SydneyKid. The only people doing any slagging here are idiots like yourself. Don't turn this thread into a flame war.

SydneyKid isn't just doing them a "favour", he's not building these engines for free, the customers complaining here have paid good money almost 12 months ago for their engines. They held up their end of the bargain and they're a little upset because they are unable to get refunds and they still don't have their engines either.

It's not like it's a small item bought from a local shop they can't just walk down and get their money back because they're not happy.

Settle down and be quiet if you've got nothing better to do than call people whinging poms.

Look im not sure if you understand where I am coming from but SK is being defamed and made to be a bad/dishonest person by someone who he WAS doing a favour in between his work. It is the same as me building up a gaming pc/database server etc for a mate. I work for a big company so it would be afterhours/in between jobs. He is obviously doing a lot of work and as stated has large contracts that he must work around so give the poor guy a break. I will run my mouth off because you are not giving him a fair go.

I hear a lot of whinging poms here. From what I see SK is doing you guys a FAVOUR. He is HELPING YOU OUT. Bloody hell quit your whinging and get your money back then buy a shit engine and do it yourself. Some things money cant buy. If you dont want the f**king engine then get a refund and let someone who is actually going to appreciate it take your place.

you are just a tool. how about you go and outlay a few thousand dollars on something that you think you are going to get in 2 months, then wait an addition 10 months on top of that and see how you like it.

he isn't doing them any favours. it is a business transaction. and i'm sure he is making his fair share of profit out of it, which he is entitled to do.

HERE'S AN EMAIL HE SENT TO ME IN MARCH 06 REGARDING TIMELINE and PROGRESS UPDATES,

so FAR ONLY 2 Updates.

Week 1 ending Friday 14th April, source suitable blocks

Week 2 ending Friday 21st April, chemical clean, measure, inspect and crack test

Week 3 ending Friday 28th April, source pistons, rods, rings, bearings, studs gasket, seals and 4wd adaptors as required

Week 4 ending Friday 5th May, machine, balance, measure, drill and tap

Week 5 ending Friday 12th May, dummy assemble, check tolerances, remachine as required

Week 6 ending Friday 19th May, ceramic coat piston crowns, oil retention coat skirts and build shipping crates

Week 7 ending Friday 26th May, final assembly and then pack for shipping

I usually send pictures of the progress at;

Week 2 of the cleaned block and crank

Week 5 of the engine dummy assembled with pictures of the major components (pistons, rods, studs etc)

Week 7 assembled and then in the crate

This gives the guys a picture record of their engine which they can show their friends, stick on web sites, give to magazines etc. It also acts as support for the progress payments.

K back to the point of this thread

i think it's time for ppl who has his phone number to give it up, so we can contact him via the phone,

since he wouldn't give out his phone number to us. we were only stuck to using emails and pms to get a hold of him.

this isn't fair for us.

so Please if anyone can get a hold of him..please pm one of us.

thanks

also

we need to think of a way to get our products

i am willing to chip in some money for one who is close to AUS sydney to go to "harris engine service" to see our engines, and to talk to them face to face with a vid camera regarding this situation.

please give your input on what else we can do.

also

1 more favour from you guys who have delt with "harris enginer service" or close to them.

i NEED THEIR REAL PHONE number so i can call.

the number i've been trying to call was the following

Harris Engine Service

With all due respect I'm surprised you don't have his details already. That's a lot of money to be fronting up to anyone, especially if you're on the other side of the planet.

he had a huge reason behind "not giving out his number" and well too bad i fell for it..

and remember i posted another "SK Pros and Cons" back in March of 06, i only heard GOOD things about him from ppl on this fourm...and i really thought he was all that BUT.........so i went with the deal..

but i guess he isn't so great after all.

Did a search on YellowPages.com.au and came up with:

Harris Engine Services

12 Ilma St Bankstown NSW 2200

ph: (02) 9771 3432 Engine Reconditioning

1year is a hell of a long time to wait for an order. Must be pretty stressful when that 'order' is on the other side of the world and $$ has already changed hands. Next time ask for a 30day account, lol. If it was me in this position, Id be MIGHTY pissed. But its not, so I'll STFU right now.

    • I think you're really missing the point. The spec is just the minimum spec that the fuel has to meet. The additive packages can, and do, go above that minimum if the fuel brand feels they need/want to. And so you get BP Ultimate or Shell Ultra (or whatever they call it) making promises to clean your engine better than the standard stuff....simply because they do actually put better additive packages in there. They do not waste special sauce on the plebian fuel if they can avoid it. I didn't say "energy density". I just said "density". That's right, the specific gravity (if you want to use a really shit old imperial description for mass per unit volume). The density being higher indicates a number of things, from reduces oxygen content, to increased numbers of double bonds or cyclic components. That then just happens to flow on to the calorific value on a volume basis being correspondingly higher. The calorific value on a mass basis barely changes, because almost all hydrocarbon materials have a very similar CV per kg. But whatever - the end result is that you do get a bit more energy per litre, which helps to offset some of the sting of the massive price bump over 91. I can go you one better than "I used to work at a fuel station". I had uni lecturers who worked at the Pt Stanvac refinery (at the time they were lecturing, as industry specialist lecturers) who were quite candid about the business. And granted, that was 30+ years ago, and you might note that I have stated above that I think the industry has since collected together near the bottom (quite like ISPs, when you think about it). Oh, did I mention that I am quite literally a combustion engineer? I'm designing (well, actually, trying to avoid designing and trying to make the junior engineer do it) a heavy fuel oil firing system for a cement plant in fricking Iraq, this week. Last week it was natural gas fired this-that. The week before it was LPG fired anode furnaces for a copper smelter (well, the burners for them, not the actual furnaces, which are just big dumb steel). I'm kinda all over fuels.
    • Well my freshly rebuilt RB25DET Neo went bang 1000kms in, completely fried big end bearing in cylinder 1 so bad my engine seized. No knocking or oil pressure issue prior to this happening, all happened within less than a second. Had Nitto oil pump, 8L baffled sump, head drain, oil restrictors, the lot put in to prevent me spinning a bearing like i did to need the rebuild. Mechanic that looked after the works has no idea what caused it. Reckoned it may have been bearing clearance wrong in cylinder 1 we have no idea. Machinist who did the work reckoned it was something on the mechanic. Anyway thats between them, i had no part in it, just paid the money Curiosity question, does the oil system on RB’s go sump > oil pump > filter > around engine? If so, if you had a leak on an oil filter relocation plate, say sump > oil pump > filter > LEAK > around engine would this cause a low oil pressure reading if the sensors was before the filter?   TIA
