Hi all,

Looking at getting lightened pulleys for my 200sx putting out 240rwkW/500rwNm and just not quite sure about what the benefits are.

The normal pulley replacement kit seems to just be the underdrive crank pulley - is this the most important one?

What I'm trying to achieve is less strain on the engine down low so that it's a little easier off the start - it brings me pain to go as slow as a Barina until boost hits... okay maybe not quite that bad but still.

I see there are also "harmonic balancer" kits which seem to be water and accessory pulleys - are these worthwhile? I assume anything that makes the load lighter is good - as long as it doesn't then lessen the power to the accessories due to the lower momentum of the pulley wheels...?

Thanks in advance for your wisdoms!

Hmmm hasn't been whole lot of discussion here! I've had some good info from over at NSCC forums though. Is public forum I believe, but you will still have to register to see:

The basic info is that lightened crank pulleys can be an issue on cars with more than 4 cylinders, and also engines that are not internally balanced - the stock crank pulleys have a dampening/balancing effect on the engine which can be lost by the lighter weight and lack of dampener on most lightened pulleys.

Underdriving the water pump, etc. separately can be a wiser move.

Alloy crank pulleys can also cause premature crank seal wear which stock cast iron ones don't suffer as the seal can bed in better or some such thing.
