Ohk.. i know this has been done a few times.. but i dont know what the go is as i have a gtr gearbox ... anyways the car makes a heavy whiring sound when the car is in neutral and non of the pedal are being touched.. however if you then go and put the clutch pedal in, the whiring noise dissapears... then the noise is back again all through the gears...

what could it be?

i dont think tis hindering my cars performance at all.. but damn its pissing me off... ive had the car for 3 weeks now, and its driving me batty... anyone know of a good place to pull the gearbox down and look at it and how much it could end up costing me to do this to get it fixed :S?

thanks

Sounds similar to what happened to mine..

Could either be a) thrust bearing or b) input shaft bearing..

reason you hear it when in neutral is the input shaft is spinning.. push the clutch in goes away as the input shaft slows down and the bearing stops spinning..

best bet - take it to a mechanic - doesn't have to be skyline specific.. just a normal work shop or maybe a gearbox one..

hopefully nothing too major..

thrust bearing can only be heard when the clutch is pushed in..

Have you had a chance to get someone to look at it Ruffels?

Most likely I think it will be something on the input shaft side - as it happens in neutral and that is the only main shaft spinning..

Currently i've got mine in for another look as he couldn't work out what it was the first time..

You may need to get the gearbox reco'd or looked at - is it happening in all gears than slightly quieter in 4th?.. as that's what mine does..

up like a burrrr/whuuurrrr sound in neutral... (not touching clutch pedal)... and then a sort of whine/whur sound all through the gears.. and you can hardly hear it in 4th/5th

def input shaft - happened to my gts-4 box then the same thing to my gtr box ( using vmx80 with that additive that makes it less noisey ) it is annoying but mine hasn't really changed in the 12 months i have had the box in it for. i just don't want to pull the box out or pay someone to pull it out cos its a pain in the bum without a hoist
