Ok after thinking my suspension hunt was over, the DMS turned out to be Hot Bits shocks...so i am back on the hunt.

Im still considering a set of 50mm DMS, but at that sort of money i am looking to find out more about Quantum shocks.

If these fall through ill probably just grab some Aussie Tein Super Streets or still my preference HKS Hypermax II...as the $1500-2000 saving could be spend better elsewhere, be it girls, drugs or on some plastic surgery

I have a set of quantum shocks in my r32, they are very good (mine are quite hard, they have 8kg/mm springs in them).

There isn't much info out there on them I think Trial japan use them in cars over there. Most of the Quantum stuff you see are on Porsche's and stuff!!! They are an english brand.

(I'm in Bentleigh, Vic, if you like i'd be happy to show you how my car feels with them on if you're in melbourne.)

u can't compare Aussie Tein Super Streets or HKS Hypermax II to DMS, i don't think they are better than the 40mm DMS.

to get some jan suspension in similar size of 50mm DMS (46mm+), their price won't be any cheaper (>4k)

my 2 cents

I know they are not better fullstop but for $3400 fr the 40mm DMS vs about $1700-$1800 for the HKS and similar for the Tein....the $1700 difference will pay for a wild weekend of debauchery:yes:

But i do want the DMS, most likely the 40mm, but the Quantums are a similar price and are used heavily in motorsport as well...so thats why i would like to get to know a little bit more about them.

The HKS are a good back drop as i liked an R33 that ran them...but it depends on what a few other things im doign to my car end up costing...and how much quicker a certain GTST with DMS goes round corners then me using the same rubber :)

it has height and damper, what is rebound?

here are a couple of pics....

Sorry i know what im talking about...and i always use the wrong language. You can have shocks where you can adjust the bump and rebound ( i understand thats they are the proper terms)

The better shocks you can adjust the characteristics of the shock in the same adjuster, the real good ones are able to be adjusted individually. The cheaper adjustable shocks are only able to be adjusted in rebound

The Production GTR was 0.75 sec faster at Oran Park with the DMS than off the shelf Bislteins. Which were 1.75 secs faster than the HKS's it had before. That's with optimised spring rates and alignment settings in all cases (we have over 100 pairs of springs). The Proflex are no faster than the DMS over 1 lap, but 10 seconds faster over 12 laps.

If you are doing lap dashes, the Bilsteins are the best value for money.

:) cheers :)

It seems i may just put some new springs in my things and see how it goes. im just sick of the rolly polly when im running semi slicks. Its killing my tyres as they just hammer the outside sidewall.

So i could run more camber but then i have the same problem on the inside of the tyre. I need to get rid of some of the roll, then im sure i wont have near as much difficulty getting the tyres to last.

So no one has any Aus dealer or websites for Quantum????

...another thing, anyone have any idea what qualies would give acar more corner speed in slow corners then quick ones?

My car does really well in the quick 3rd and 4th gear stuff with very few cars ever beign able to get away from me because of corner speed. But the slow 2nd gear stuff i just cant carry the same corner speed as other cars...its very noticeable at a place liek Winton :D

maybe it's not the car that's quick in fast corners. maybe it's you? possibly large nuts giving you the edge through the fast, corners, but your car is letting you down in the slow stuff?

Brisby,

I always had the same issues as you do with the slower corners. For me the obvious killer was the 2 ends of Calder. But at say the Island I never had a problem.

The fix has been adding more castor. Its made a huge difference. I still haven't learnt to drive it propperly yet with the extra front grip it has on the slower stuff.

LOL..i wish. At the end of the day i can only go as fast as the car will let me around corners...otherwise i end up in the dirt or at worst the tyres

But i am running 6.0/6.5 from memory. So if i dial in say 8.0/8.5...Uncle Andrew, any idea how much extra you are now running?

What stabiliser bar sizes are you running?

What settings (they are adjustable aren't they)?

Which end looses the grip?

 cheers ;)

PS: Slow corners = use more ripple strip, turn in, apex and exit

Slower corners = straddle the ripple strip, apex only

The bars are the ones Whiteline put on my car when developign th ekit. So they have one hole less either side...but that only means i lose a bit of tunability between the max and min settings, not the extremes themselves.

I have them set on hardest, and LOL i use plenty of ripple strip, as that is one of the beauties of the car being pretty soft, i can really hammer ripple strips.

But the downside of that is if i try to run slightly larger 235/45 front tyres they rub when i run the ripples strips and the shock strokes that extra bit.

So i will try some castor, and may even try to suss out some springs as it looks liek the suspension may have to wait with some of the other things the car is getting

I hate being broke

That would most likely be a 24 mm front and 22 mm rear, get the verniers out and check just to be sure.

For the tyres you are running I would be looking at 27 mm front and 24 mm rear.

Sell off the 24/22 's to someone for road use and I will look after you on price for a set of 27/24's (with the extra adjustment holes). PM me for more details.

 cheers ;)

Can do...lol, i went through this with you about 8 months ago, just when Whiteline stopped selling directly to the public. And Wojtek told me they would not make those swaybars for me anyway, as he did not think that was the way to go. He said what i had is the best i will get...i must admit i went a bit luke warm on Whiteline gear after that just because their agents had no clue about the Whiteline product and ...yardayardayarda

I understand where you are coming from. But I have to remember that they get a hundred or so calls a day from wankers who want the biggest, baddest, thickest, fattest (phattest) stabiliser bars in the country.

;) cheers :)

Just to go back on topic! I have a question about my Quantum suspension, if anyone here can tell me about this...

you can see in second picture I posted in my post above, top shock the silver alen key thing on the bottom, i've been told this adjusts the rebound dampening

as far as i understand, top = compression dampening, bottom = rebound dampening

so, how should i go about adjusting both the settings? and what sort of balance am i looking at?

I have no idea what settings the bottom ones are on, i'll have to check,

any info would be great! cheers...

    • My fob has never worked, I once attempted to follow the procedure to re-key it, (I have other fobs for the car alarm thing in there). I actually have three of them. Do aftermarket alarms take over the pairing mechanism for central locking? Or do they piggyback off it? I suppose it depends on the system, right? I have four sets of keys/keyfobs. One definitely works, one I think works, one definitely doesn't work, and I have the OEM one that has never worked :p. Is this fixable/workable/whatever? I mean I know it's beyond "just clean it" but how *do* they get synced up?
    • It's actually a really weird comparison... the MX5 is on another level and I kinda question this comparison at all. It'd be closer to compare it to a GTI/Golf/Hatch anything that kicks around. NC MX5 with a turbo has the right to go up with and beat the FD RX7 or 180SX or any other JDM hero car. That's the comparison that would really ruffle feathers.
    • @MBS206 you need more shed in your life... What sort of car is your mates race car?  Hopefully he returns the favour when you're ready to get cracking on yours! None of my mates are into cars so I don't have to worry about that as a distraction thankfully.  I have enough other distractions so I don't need that one too!  Between working 6 days a week (5 1/2 really so 55 hours or so per week), both kids have basketball almost every week night (including Friday night in Melbourne - 2 hours away), my daughter plays netball as well, my sons footy has started now and I coach his under 14's side as well as I'm on the Footy club committee this year, I ride motorbikes every spare Sunday I can find, plus trying to be some sort of a husband.  Life is a busy little exercise at the moment!  I wish there were 8 or 9 days in a week sometimes!
