hi all,

i am currently rebuilding a rb20det and when i pulled it down i found that the piston ring lands were cracked and also one of the rings on piston number 2 was cracked in half. but what i am after is aftermarket standard size pistons as i got the bores honed before i noticed that the pistons were cracked.

if any one knows were i can get standard size new pistons(not forged), please let me know.

I priced genuine Nissan +0.50mm pistons at $74 ea and rings $174 (trade).

$618 and 2 weeks ex Japan.

I imagine std size would be around the same price.

Im interested if there are any aftermarket Hypatec type pistons available for these engines.....

As a general rule when rebuilding you always work out if it needs to be bored first, then buy suitable pistons, then have each bore bored to suit the pistons as pistons can vary in size ever ever ever ever so slightly. Thats if you want to run perfect bore/piston clearances. :P

All the little extra bits you do to a motor all add up and make a difference to performance/reilability. :D

it is only my daily driver, i'm not worried about running higher than standard boost. i just should have checked the pistons before i honed the block, as now i might have to get's over sized pistons and have the block boarded and honed again to match.

i was just interrested to see if anyone makes standard size pistons for the rb20det, other then nissan.

Im suprised ACL dont make any pistons for RB20's.

I spoke to ACL tech dept today, he said most ACL pistons are of a 'utectic' style piston, the race series are just a little lighter and have a lighter pin.

Ill find out tomorrow if the Hypatec brand is available for RB20's.
