Hey Guys, newbie here, but, could we possibly get a list compiled of age groups with premiums paid and car types as well as some ratings just for reference sake? Just I am looking at getting either a R33 or R34 and am really interested in the cost of insurance. My old Lancer Coupe was the same premium as a R33 with JCI, funny that they classified it as a sports coupe considering it only had a 1.8 engine... hehehe

Thanks

I actually got recommended to an Insurance Enquiries Agency by the very nice woman from SunCorp Metway - 1300 780808

Try calling them and tell them what your situation is, she then refered me to a few insurance companies.

Good Luck!

Be sure to read the policies in detail!!!!

You could try contacting Response Australia (they're in Victoria) on 03 9873 8999. Being a fairly old fart (57) with 60% ncd, my R33 GTST cost just $1007 to insure, even though it's got some alarm bell-ringing (for insurance companies) modifications such as alloy wheels, exhaust, strut braces. Maybe my country address helped, too (2535, on the south coast of NSW))

A fair few insurance companies only insure people with turbo cars over 25. Also some companies won't insure a car over 15 years old. I have no idea why. Just Car Insurance seem reasonable for Third Party Insurance, but fairly expensive when it comes to Comprehensive insurance.

Update: i just got my this year's bill from justcar..I just turned 24 this yr.

Last year it was $2200

This year's bill it dropped down to $1735, which reflected my 'upgrade' from 50% ncb to 60% ncb :D

The car is R33 GTS25t, manual, 1994. All stock, agreed value $19k

I am not sure if it will get cheaper from this year now, since the ncb did made a bit of significant savings and 60% is the max....

I rang shannons in Perth and they wouldn't insure me because they only insure people involved in car clubs and exbitions or something does sound right or was i jipped.

Shannons is an enthusiast car insurance companies. Who else markets their business with Go-ggo Mobiles in their television advertisments?

As a result, they only insure specialist automobiles and enthusiast owners. They won't insure your Hyundai Excel, nor your Mitsubishi Mirage, no matter how many pieces of fibreglass you have rivetted to the bodywork. The other side of the coin means they won't just insure any old habibi off the street. You have to prove yourself to be an enthusiast who loves their car, looks after it and won't go drifting it around 90 degree corners at 2nd gear redline and wipeout a bus station at 2am in the morning.

The easiest way they know how to establish that level of enthusiast, is to insure owners who are part of registered car clubs. The other way is to have a phone or in-person interview with them, where they will gauge your attitude and maturity. They commonly have stands at Supernats and such events where they have consultants at hand that are able to do this and give you a quote even if you aren't a member of a club.

Easiest way though? Join Skylines Australia NSW!! We're a registered club and Shannons acknowledges us in their list of car clubs.

I have my 1997 R33 GTR insured through Shannons.

This would be completely useless as premiums depend largely on your driving record, and the suburb where you will garage the car.

I might be the same age as you, but pay $8000 to insure my Skyline because I live in Cabramatta and have written off $100,000 worth of cars.

Ring up the same insurance company and if you have a clean record and live in Rose Bay, you'll pay about $800.

You have to prove yourself to be an enthusiast who loves their car, looks after it and won't go drifting it around 90 degree corners at 2nd gear redline and wipeout a bus station at 2am in the morning.  - Merli

hahaha couldnt have said it better :D

shannons were funny when I called them yesterday, once we cleared the car club hurdle (I'm a member of 4 for various reasons :D ), they knocked me back coz the car is owned by a company.

Of course they said they would have made an exception if I already had a policy with them....which begs the question.....how on earth do you get a first policy with them

Buy a classic car. If you have a old classic car, and insure it with them and then enquire about insuring a newer car they would probably say yes.

haha, :zap:

It never fails. Just went I can't afford it, insurance renewal comes in the mail.

For reference, I'm with Suncorp Metway, full comp, $1000 excess plus $600 on the excess because I lost my licence. I'm 29, rating 2, I live in 4700, garaged, premium is $777.39 for the year. I've got alloys, zorst, stereo, strut, can't do much more to it though. Can do a 'partial' bodykit, which is spoiler, sideskirts, and possibly a front lip, but doesn't seem to include a full frontbar.

If I started doing performance mods, I'd be asked to move along...

Hmmm... faster car or cheap insurance... decisions, decisions...
