When it's trying to limit the boost, the profec in your car makes a fast clicking noise - that's the solenoid opening and shutting to control the air pressure the wastegate actuator sees. The noise should be easily heard inside the cabin if you turn the stereo off.

If you want to bring it back down I'm happy to have a look at it :miner:

OK... to connect the wastegate directly to the intake, connect the line coming out of this:

The plenum is the best place to connect to but anywhere along the intake between the turbo and the motor is fine, as long as it's after the turbo it's ok. Hell you can even steal the hose going to the BOV, you might need to extend it but it will work - pull the hose off the end of the BOV and plug it into the wastegate actuator. Obviously this means that the BOV won't work, but this isn't a huge problem if you're only doing it for a short term to test something.

OK I'll take the pipe that goes from the wastegate and plug it into the plenum sometime this weekend, thanks dude!

Alrighty, hooked the wastegate to the plenum, stole the feed for the guage so dont know exactly what boost I am running, but it used to ping it's nuts off in 3rd when it hit full boost (between 0.9 and 1.13 BAR) and ran it up and down the highway and it was considerably slower and did not ping once, borrowing a workmates t-piece tomorrow and might whack on his boost guage to compare it with mine to see if it is accurate.

Also found an awesome welder who will add about 1cm of steel to the floorpan/handbrake foot and is a great welder, will work for beer, so when he gets back from his next mine stint, I'll get him to weld up the mount :D

Alright, finally fired off some shots of the handbrake mount, and here they are. Not too sure how they will turn out, as the sizethey are automatically reduced to is a bit small, but I can email you the full-res shots if needed.

Yeah I really do apprecitate everyone's help on this, looks like I am going to get someone to weld two bits of 7mm thick steel, one to the floorpan and the other to the handbrake foot and then bead weld them both together, that way it aint NEVA coming off :sick:

Right bought an elcheapo boost guage and hooked it all up with the plenum to the wastegate and cant get it past just on 7psi, and it takes much longer than it used to to get there, so it looks like there is something wrong with the profec or it is setup wrong, bummer, which means I might need to drive back to brissie to get it replaced under insurance...... :)

If you have the W/G hooked up directly to the plenum then you will only ever get 7psi as this is what the W/G spring is set at - at least you know it is working fine.

hey cyrus u dont need to weld anything onto the car floor for the handbrake to make it stronger, just weld bigger support brackets onto the handbrake assembly itself so the bolting down areas are much bigger, and use 2 nice big nuts and bolts to hold it, trust me when its bolted on the gearbox tunnel it doesnt move an inch and doesnt distort the floor or nothing. saves stripping interior and burning all the under carpet deadener and stuff :P

im the slackest for getting photos but ill make an extra effort to take a photo of mine with the console off to show you what i mean, soooon haha :wave:

Don't just hook it all back up exactly how it was - get your copy of the Profec wiring/hose diagram, and...

1. Follow every single line and wire back so you know what and where it plugs into. Draw a diagram. Compare it to what's on the official one. Make changes if necessary.

2. Take every hose off, one at a time so you can't mix them up, blow through it (with an air nozzle if you can get your hands on one) in both directions so you know it's not blocked, or replace it if it's old/cracked or blocked for no apparent reason.

3. Cut the extra length out of the hoses, as I know yours are ridiculously long :O Just cut enough out to make them tidy, but leave plenty of slack in the lines, and cut from both ends, not just one. Make them (say) 10% longer than they have to be to reach. Cutting from both ends makes sure that the bit of hose you're putting over the fitting at each end is in reasonable condition. Reconnect the line, then repeat 2-3 for each one.

4. Check the wires with a multimeter for continuity (huge resistance levels = broken/dodgy wire). Check them visually for frayed/missing plastic sheath, replace the wire if it's stuffed. No twisting and taping... do it properly!! Crimp plugs onto (or solder) any cut wires. Check again for continuity.

5. Reconnect everything one at a time, double checking that you're putting it in the right place.

Then, try driving it again with the Profec off, if it still runs stupid boost stop there and reconnect the line directly to the wastegate, and take it to someone who knows Profecs (or at least EBCs in general), have them check it and tell you whether it's shagged, or something is wrong.

Yes this is time-consuming, but doing it yourself could easily save you $$$ and possibly a trip to Brissy - I've bolded the important bit :angry:

If you have a mate up there who'll do this for you for a carton or whatever, do that, just make sure he knows what he's doing, and that you don't give him the carton until after he's finished :D

Also does anyone know why one side of my EBC goes to the wastegate, but the other goes to a T that leads to the plumbback to the turbo (effectively before the turbo) and the other leads to the intercooler piping, just before it bends around to go over the motor, (effectively after the turbo)............?

Key:

1 - Plumbback pipe goes to T

2 - Intercooler pipe goes to T

3 - Goes from T to GReddy unit in the engine bay (see pic below)

4 - Wastegate goes to GReddy unit in the engine bay (see pic below) <-- This currently goes to the plenum so that I run stock boost until I figure out what is going wrong with the GReddy EBC.

Now at the very back of the stock plenum there is a hose that runs off that to the incabin GReddy unit, not pictured. I assume that the wiring then runs from the incabin unit to the engine bay unit...?

Also notice that the engine bay unit is mounted on the firewall, meaning that the hoses running from the wastegate and the T (pictured above) are about 1mtr long :mrt:.......

Still next step for me is to follow Revhead's instructions above and test/replace/change/check/double check everything and go from there.

But what I dont understand is why the EBC would be venting boost into before the turbo and after the turbo? The instructions for the EBC show that the vent should be hooked directly to after the turbo, not before it....

But then it begs the question of it worked perfectly before with this setup....... so if it is not then either a hose is leaking somewhere, the wiring has been damaged or the EBC is broken.........?

    • Reasonably hard, although I haven't run it with the new Endless setup yet. The old brakes were F50's on 335mm rotors and the car did a 1:40.6 at Phillip Island which is a reasonable time, I'm seeing high 600s on the temperature paint. A guy I know ran the Endless fluid at WTAC without issues and he was doing 1:33's I think (Evo) with a 355/332 setup. I don't get out to the track as much as I'd like but we put the car on the hoist and spanner check every bolt and re-paint mark everything, bleed the brakes, change the fuel, check the coolant system and re-bleed blah blah blah before every event. Motorsport is expensive, RB's are expensive so a couple of hours before an event is time well spent. It's also a net time saving because if you can keep your RB from self destructing it saves you time in the long term!

    • I am using Motec M150.  I am not working on the car myself actually.  My workshop is giving all these info, they are quite reputable in the industry and are very familiar with Motec and RBs and have done a few big setups with VCam and single turbo on RBs.  In fact, they built and tuned my engine from day one.  But they are stumped with my engine at the moment and cannot work out how come the compression is so low with the VCam. They told me that they have now swapped in some Kelford cams (without the VCam) and can achieve around 130psi compression and the low end torque is better, but now the engine is doughy as.  It boosts and peaks at more than 1000rpm slower, with twin HKS GTIII RS, it doesn't get full boost until over 5000rpm. I have always thought the VCam was a bit disappointing at the low rpm. To a point I had to ride the clutch a fair bit to get up a small hill from stand still.  That was when I had a clutch.  Now changing to a 8HP, I don't have that luxury and this problem has become a major issue. I am beginning to think the VCam never work since the day it was installed.  Maybe it was just sitting at the most advanced point, that is why it went good at top end but very ordinary at the bottom.  Therefore, with the help of the Holinger 6 speed and paddle shift, as long as it was moving, it drove pretty good.
