Last time I got pulled over (random license check or some crap) all I got asked was 'does your number plate light work?' I said 'I believe so' and then he told me I didn't need to test it  weird. Maybe I just look dodgy.

What year is the model?

Any mods are supposed to be included in the power to weight figure.

As hard and stupid as this is to do, it is the vic roads requirement.

The weights are as follows;

2 door

1989 -1991 1260kgs, 158 kws = over limit

1991 -1993 1290kgs, 160kws = below limit

4 door

1989 - 1991 1290kgs, 158 kws= below limit

1991 - 1993 1320 kgs, 160kws = below limit.

These are the factory dry weight figures, and power at the fly wheel.

A revision was made in 1991, as well as other changes such as the silver/gold GT badges were changed to white and blue or white and red.

Crap, that means that my car is over the limit(2 door-1989-1991 158kws)I Better be careful from now on..thanks for the info

Most police arent aware of this. (as are most forum members,)

Recently i was pulled over and the policeman (familyfriend)

said that they had been given orders to pull up skyline p platers.

They checked that it was not a 2.5 and that the bov was plumbed back.

Most wouldn't know that the weights were changed, and just accept that they just pass.

Thats weird, because Im P plater too, and drive a 1990 R32gtst and have been told that my car is within regulations for P platers...have you done any extra mods?
I know that cops dont carry dynos with them, but a couple of years ago one of my friends got pulled over in a Silvia, and the cop started going through the engine bay and whole car, checking for anything thats not stock, and got booked for it...

Mods don't matter for the "power to weight ratio", but any mods done to the car would be altering emissions, which would then make the car defectable, and would require an EPA, which is why your friend in the Silvia got done for mods

Do you know if those are the figures vic roads and the police carry?

Can someone with an R32 take a photo of their rego sticker and post up the weight claimed on it?

Thanks

i reckon 90% of rego stickers ive seen are way off actual weights...my cousins VX clubsport says its like 1400kg...surely its up around 1600kg

I'm just trying to figure out whether the cops go by vicroads rego weights, or they have their own figures

oh.. ive ben done for power /weight twice now.. so i got a bit of inside info

cops dont even think about the rego sticker tare weights, because they are all so so wrong...

police will say that modifications to a car under the limit count.. but at the end of the day, its up to them to prove if they dont have any written evidence (eg a stock car being over) .. you are innocent until provent guilty... therefor if you have a modified R32 gts-t 1993 (just under the limit) and throw on an exhaust, bigger turbo etc yes it will blaintently be voer the limit.. but its up to them to prove.. WITH evidence.. not jsut an assumption.

as for the fine.. yes every cop and his dog will hand out $110 and no point fines ... but technically it is supposed to incur a points penalty, however no police ever inforce that... i belive its kinda like a 3 strikes and your out type thing.. i got done twice for it.. the police then wouldnt let me drive home and said next time they catch me (strike 3) i get a summonse to court.....

this was in an R33 gts-t.. so yes.. over the list...

give me a minute and i'll scan a list i have of "imported" cars the victorian TMU police have all been given to look out for p platers driving them...

I just had a look at my rego sticker and my car is listed as 1350 tare weight..

pplaterestrictedimportedcars.JPG

sorry bout the massive pic guys.. if you complain enough, i'll change it to just a hotlink...

haha notice the cops put a tick next to my car to show me :@

-Mark

meanwhile the rego sticker on my car says 1100

i thought 32's were signifcantly lighter than 33's  lol

Yeah thats shocking, thats why I imported the R32 because its lighter that the R33, go figure...

Thankfully, most of my mods were done in Japan, which are covered under my engineers report..

So if I get pulled over they wont crack it for an after market bov?

OMG so many reply's,

Im glad to hear that i can drive my car now next time i get pulled over i can confidentially say that my car is under 125kw per tonne..

thanks everyone..

i just hope the cop dosnt get pissed at me cauz he dont know anythin and start givein me canary's for everythin i got wrong with car..

bbut yea thanks again everyone.

Damn Ruffls, looks like that list is out to hunt Nissans! Have never even seen a Plymouth Prowler over here. I never realised a Ferrari 456 GTA was nearly 2 tonnes!

After looking at the list Ruffels posted, I noticed R32 GT-R isn't listed as cars to be enforced then does this means I can 'legally' drive R32 GT-R on my Ps?

I know R32 GT-R is over power to weight ratio that already make this car ILLEGAL for P-platers to drive so it would seem that this car is excluded from the list of enforced cars.

And also noticed that most of cars police are now enforced are imported under SEVS scheme, this got me wondering that any of 63 Australian delivered R32 GT-Rs are being excluded from the rule?

Could anyone shed the light of the question?

Cheers

Grant
