oh I didn't mean brisbane west is like sydney west.. hahahaha.. I just meant I wanted east to be closer to water... just a preference..

Brighton and sandgate is where I'd like to be, but they are a little out of th eprice range..

occasionally something comes up in my price range but I'm willing to travel 5 or 6 km from Bracken ridge or near by to go to the bay side..

:)

Look around in those areas still hey, you might find something ok in your price range. All ok areas. Traffic can be a bit of a pain, easy way to fix it, leave 30mins earlier or 30mins later. Just talk to your new boss about different work hours.

Anyway good luck with the move, I happen to be busy that weekend so I cant help sorry

awesome car mate... love the 32 4-door! love the colour!

got any specs?

did you end up getting that rb25 turbo for it?

moving up here for work? what do you do?

can't think of any place to eat in spring hill.. you're pretty close to caxton st.. why not try there for something? a mate of mine owns a bar called 'ludo' and they serve an awesome steak!

Or you could walk down to the valley.. there's an awesome The land of goat sphincter rings restraunt called 'mecca bah' or one of the many chinese restraunts..

as for thai.. well i'm still searching for the best restraunt in the area.. right now the best stuff still comes from my stove

Warren.

Have you got a job lined up yet? That will ultimately change the how you are affected by peak hour.

Takes me 15 minutes to get to work from Southside to southside

I lived at Springwood and travelled to Newstead for work. Takes 15 minutes on a saturday and 50 minutes on a weekday. I still say its better than Sydney.

Springwood = 30 minute drive from the Gold Coast.

Areas around Mt Gravatt are also pretty central. Have Garden City and a few choices on routes to the city. M1, Logan Rd, Ipswich Rd, Gateway if you are past the city (I still would not recommend)...

LOL.. well even if its not great, SE QLD traffic is still 10 times better than melbourne..

You haven't experienced bullshit traffic until you've lived in melb.. where cars go 10km/hr under the speed limit everywhere.. oh, and this morning it took 1 hour to simply travel 35km to near the city.. And i think i saw more cops revenue raising in 4 days than a typical month in QLD.. erk! Worse place to drive in all of australia..

Another Thai place which is closer to Spring Hill is the Royal Thai Orchid at Milton (its on Cribb Street).

They have won the award for the best restaurant in Queensland a couple of times too.

WORD TO THAT !!! Had the San Choi Bow there and nearly creamed myself... its awesome, specially if your a lover of traditional thai food like me :( Bring on the Green Curries.

I live in the bald hills area and it is a good place to live. It is a 29 min train ride from the city centre. I have lived in Bald Hills for most of my life so i know the go. bracken ridge is ok too but has some older housing commission type housing. I have lived at Annerley and Stafford too and i hate the traffic on the southside it is super congested when you have to drive to work. Stafford is nice and fairly central but property prices have gone up and up there. I am more a northside man than south and bracken ridge is a good in between for work and ease of cruising up the coast, out to redcliffe and has some reasonable properties at the right price.

my 2c. :(

So Thai dinners will become the new Chilli nights by the looks.

Just love their style of cooking. Even did the cooking class while on my last trip there.

Damn I'm looking forward to getting back to Brisbane. Traffic won't be a problem though as we'll do reno's while we live in the the houses :( Also going to do some auto engineering (depending on the Transport authority BS associated, especially insurance) and teach SCUBA

As a Northside person (Aspley) the traffic, WTF...there is none compared to Sydney.

Sandgate is pricey becuase of location. Have a look at Boondall and the areas you have listed. You may also be lucky in Carseldine (my olds live there) or even Chermside.

There are quite a few places for sale, and in the current market drop a low offer and see what happens.

I am glad you saw the light and moved to the sunny land!!!

As an ex-Mexican I've lived in quite a few Southside burbs over the last few years and would have to recommend Mt Gravatt, Holland Park & surrounding areas

You have quick access to main arterials going in all directions, only 10mins from the city and close to good retail & 'automotive' shopping!

Well i sounds like there is going to be an invasion. Im in Melbourne and we are moving up in december im looking forward to it. we are going to hit the coast . My brother lives in Barden but the coast was a easyer sell to my family will join SAU .QLD we i get up there .. as for the personel plates i cant get over the cost up there. and my plate is taken. RCHOO.. see you guys when i get there....

thanks for all the replies peoples..

althought I didn't get anything since my last post on tuesday..

hahahaha

spent the 3 days up there.

did about 5 interviews

to answer a few questions.

bracken ridge

sandgate

brighton

tingalpa

carindale

all south east and west suburbs

ALL OUT..

we have found our new place to live and have applied for rent at a few places.

our new home looks to be

Mango Hill

27km to the city

12km to redcliffe

80km to sunshine coast

130km to goldcoast

it was the only place that we both went.. "YEP.. got everything we need"

Northlakes is the area or estate thing.

has a westfields

has a few taverns

restaurants

schools

library

parks

walkways

gym

everything we need.

no older QLD'er type houses which we don't like.

The drive to the city won't be bad for me.

I am a regular gym junkie and will probably train in a gym near work in the city at about 6:30am

I don't see there being much traffic on the road in from that area to the city at 6am.

My interviews went pretty good and am hoping to hear back from them today.

WAZ - to answer your 20 questions..

awesome car mate... love the 32 4-door! love the colour!

got any specs?

89 4 door gts4 sedan (4wd), fmic, $22 boost controller, exhaust, r32 gtr wheels and some aftermarket gtr shocks and springs.

lightened by removal of air con vents.. hahahaha

did you end up getting that rb25 turbo for it?

nope. can't do anything yet.. need money to move.

moving up here for work? what do you do?

yes for work and easier lifestyle, and to have a family in a family home instead of a 2 bedroom unit.

I work in IT.

Thanks for all your help and input, I will be moving up there in the second week of may.

Feel free to let me know what you think of this area if you know of it.

Northlakes is a concrete jungle...

Mate you will enjoy the drive to the city when there is a speed camera out cause everyone drops back to like 40 kph and the bank of traffic backs right back to bribe island turn off... If there is a accident then your really stuffed...

I have a personal hate for Northlakes... One story always comes to mind...

A lady died due to the ambulance getting lost upon entering the complex and then once they got too her house. They could not get the stretcher down the side of the house due to lax'ed building covernent (the house was 500mm from the fence on both sides) and then they had to carry her out cause her hallways was not wide enough...

Thats northlakes...

You should have looked at Warner/Cashmere...

Im currentlly living at Chermside but we are building a new house at Warner Lakes estate... Smallest block size out there is like 500m... So no little tiny blocks like Northlakes...

Just my opinion tho...

I did go and play golf out there one morning (Thursday morning last week actually)... It took me 20 minutes to get to the course at 8am in the morning from the time i left the highway... Due to the abundance of people leaving the estate to go to work. Not to mention with the current fuel prices you would be crying out for public transport and guess what you have some but it take a bus 1 hour and 15 minutes to reach the city from northlakes...

Hope you like driving...

if u want the beach lifestyle , move sumwhere like either coasts. its only a few minutes drive to the beach. i know alot of ppl who live up here commute to the city daily for work. or depending on what job u are after you mite even be able to work up here anyway. i think u should take a drive up the coast and have a look while u are here..... you wont regret it!

  • 4 weeks later...

Finally got to brissie.

man that's a long drive.

not doing that again.

anyway, the car got here fine.

2 days later (yesterday), the air con has stopped working.. needs gas, and I need to get a new fuel filter as anything over 3000rpm with anything except feather touch on throttle gets a cut till you come off it completely. so now gotta find a mechanic in the Northlakes, Kallangur area to re-gas the air con and swap a fuel filter or at least supply it for me so that I can change it.... if I can fit my hands in there that is.. looks to be a pain in the ass.

I will be more actively back on here once I get broadband set up at home which should be in a week or so.

or maybe from work once they set me up tomorrow..

we'll see.

on another note..

I love it here..

Sydney can bugger the hell right off!!!

LOL..

    • UPDATE: Hi all!  As we are getting towards the end of this thread where I’ll showcase final dyno numbers and graph, I wanted to provide an update. Tao from HyperGear has done an amazing job building the custom divided T3 housing for the G30. Communication was flawless, price was great, and now the housing is estimated to arrive in 7-10 days! Very very pleased. I must add, if someone is looking for an affordable turbo and end up reading this thread, I would recommend HyperGear. Genuine brands are the way to go as their reliability is proven, performance can be predictable, and there’s a plethora of information available for specs, flow, and more. This HyperGear recommendation is based on their excellent communication, dedication, and willingness to listen to their customers. I particularly liked their ability to create custom adaptations tailored to specific needs, which is a HUGE benefit over other brands. And if we consider the HyperGear provided dyno results, it adds reassurance knowing their turbos can compete against genuine brands. Next update will be after the dyno!
    • I've previously seen people post up "dress up bolt kits" for RBs but don't remember seeing them specify the full contents. I can only really suggest you grab the verniers and start measuring, and keep in mind the cam cover and timing cover bolts are both quite specific with a wider unthreaded section where the bushes sit, that will make it hard to get aftermarket replacements which tend to be all thread (set screws) or for longer bolts a flat section with a shorter threaded section at the end
    • I believe there was a similar one posted by @duggyphresh. They were re-routing their battery positive cable in the way I am also trying to achieve. Sorry, I’m new to this forum, so was a bit late to the party by a few months and so reignited the old thread, as I wanted to know how they got on with doing it.
    • Wasn't there a thread on this very subject just a few weeks ago?
    • Hi all! Looking to relocate the battery to the trunk of an R34 GTT. I want to do it using as many stock GTR components as I can (including the harness protectors from the 34 GTR that run underneath along the chassis to the engine bay). So far I’ve purchased the battery tray from a 33 GTR, as the captive weld nuts are already there just asking to be used. There is also the slight issue of now having to relocate the ABS/TC/Fuel Pump Control ECU, which in GTT’s sits right above where the battery will then sit on the tray. Has anyone already achieved this, and if you have any pics that you wouldn’t mind sharing? It would be great to see how others have done it and where you put them, as there are countless holes in the parcel shelf panel to potentially use. Just trying to get some ideas bounced around, and to help uncover any potential problems I may encounter by  my choice of location. TIA for any help!
