Auto Vs Manual ?

Hi guys.

Well I am going to be purchasing an R33 soon, not sure what yet, but I have about 15-17k to spend tops. That does have to include regio ect so assume a cost for that.

I have done some searching and there seams to be about 2k differences in an auto to a manual R33.

What I want to know is how much difference in power loss due to Trany is there in comparison between the two. I would prefer a manual, but if I can get a better car but an auto, is it worth it.

I have seen one that I like in an auto that has everything I want in Auto for 16.8k or a stock one; series 2 for 12.9k with warranty form a dealer, both in as new condition. They both have under 60k on the clock.

I have not been able to find a manual for that price with the same condition and mods.

I need help, I have tried to use the search function to see what is for sale on the forum, but I stuff it up, the search comes up with EVREYTHING.

Can someone do a search for me showing all the R33 available for sale up to my price range?

ALSO what are the things to look for when buying an R33. the usual problem areas ect.

PLS help a fellow wanabe skyliner. LOL.

in my opinion, you'll regret it if you buy an auto sports car. takes away a lot of the driving experience.

$16.8k for an auto seems very high also....$12k seems more reasonable...

with your budget, i'd say you'd be more likely to find a series 1 R33 than a series 2, and still have the money you need for rego and insurance etc....

take into account that if you're still young, insurance will sting....im 20 and paying $2k on my series 2 R33....

as for the 2 cars you're looking at, dont worry what k's are on the clock...99% of imports are wound back anyway....so go by the condition of the car, the interior, the engine etc...not how low the k's are

once you're serious about buying a car, get a mechanical inspection carried out. a compression test will help determine the health of the engine, and if you want to go all out, take it to a panel beater to check for accident repairs etc...

Only reason I say to do this once you're serious about a car is, these tests cost money, and if you start testing every car you look at, that $17k budget will be a lot lower when you do find the one you want

Are you chasing big power? If so definitely don't get auto as you'll encounter hell dealing with the ECU upgrade.

An auto R33 should beat a manual R33 with a driver who does average gearshifts. In the same car, a good manual driver will always beat a auto.

Autos are fun for take off and boosting but once its on boost it gets pretty boring.

Insurance is no big deal i am 26 and can get it cheep, already have quotes.

DAM it so much choice. I recon in the past 2 weeks i have rang about about 20 cars, but what i find is that most of them have oil leaks or something wrong.

Can somone recomend me some good cars when they are doing some searching.

I did so, and paid under $12K for a stock immaculate grade 4 76,000km R33 Series 1 5spd turbo. The $12K included purchase price, getting the car here, all import taxes and duties and compliance and rego.

I would presume you would pay sweet FA for an auto series 1 if u imported it direct.

yep, i got mine direct from japan as well...not as cheap as that however, as its a 1998 series 2 manual.

but a series 1 auto would be worth sweet F all if u imported 1....try speaking to craig at j-spec

POWER, you always need more power.

Hell i am selling my bike to have a car, it needs to go. If i get a stoc one, for about 12-13k i have about 3-4k to do it up so hopefully it will go OK. about 200kW. Already have a KKR-430 turbo lined up, and some other bits and pices.

Anyway, any more help is great, as they say two heads are better then one.

Can somone sugest a good non rip off importer. I have had a look at Imports 101 and Prestige motorsports and thir prices are WAY high.

I just went to jspec, but i can see any of the photos of the cars.

also how do you know what you will get. I have heard many horror stories of things missing, and cars not in the stated condition?

well you need to decide if you're the right person to be importing...there's always going to be horror stories.

I myself got PM's from members on here telling me to stay away from such and such importer, and at the end of the day, i got my car quickly (except waiting for compliance which isnt the broker's fault) and it was as described etc...

email j-spec and they'll tell you what you need to know. there is a $1000 fee if you want them to actually start looking for a car for you.

Majority of the time i soooo regret buyin an auto i mean its still fun n i love my car but it can also b sooo boring

Hence why i would like to do a manual conversion

At the end of that day its just personal choice

If u like manual more get manual, if u like auto more then get auto

Either way u can still mod the shit out of them

I want manual, but my argument is an auto is chepper, so more money for mods, but not as much fun.

seriously if u like manual get manual

dont get an auto because it is cheaper u can always get mods later on because if u get an auto now u will ened up like me wanting to do a manual conversion which will cost u a few grand

like jackie said, chances are you'll want to convert it later on, so you're only saving money now...not in the long run.

id say get a manual, stock if thats what you're after, and worry about modding it slowly rather than instantly.
