Hey guys,

I am getting a brand new stainless steel 3" turbo back system with high flowed cat installed on my r32 tommorow. At the moment i have a very cheap 3" cat back that came with the car when i bought it. It drones terribly and at 80km/h i can barely hold a conversation in my car without yelling which is the main reason for the upgrade.

But what i was wondering, was will the new exhaust with dump pipe and high flowed cat give much better performance than the current system i have?

Cheers guys

Well turns out I wont be gettin system today because of delays, but the guy gettin it in for me confused me. I asked him if it was definately turbo back and he said no, but it has a dump pipe?? My understanding was that a dump pipe is a pipe from the turbo back to the cat, meaning if you have a dump pipe you have a turbo back system??

Is that correct?

not quite...

turbo bolts onto dump pipe then to front pipe, then to cat, then cat-back

an aftermarket 3" cat back won't give any power increase over another 3" cat-back

the difference will come from fitting a dump/front pipe and the high-flow cat...

good luck,

Warren

I should've clairifed.

Turbo back system consists of (in order of fitment)

Dump-pipe:

Front pipe:

Hi flow cat:

then

Catback + mufflers

You can also get front+dump pipe all in one pipe.

Thanks heaps for the help guys.

I'll have to wait and see if i have got a dump/front pipe all in one, but im thinking it will be, cause i looked on the website for the company that make them and it says 'Full turbo system'. Heres hoping anyway, im thinkin the entire system should resemble something like this...

i fitted a front pipe and dump to my r33. it already had a cat back, made a huge difference to the overall power of the vehicle, u will certainly notice it, as well as the increased volume of the turbo sp00ling too :P

Gota love the sound of a turbo spooling, after i had my dump and front pipe put into my cat back system that was on the car from Jap it goes harder up in the revs and sounds sweet.

Cheers

hey,

Is it true that to modify the exhaust on the R33, changing the stock dump pipe is not necessary? I heard its quite good stock, so unless u got an aftermarket turbo a front pipe back exhaust will be just as good as turbo back.

Can anyone back this up?

Is it worth getting the dump pipe as well?

Cheers

Get a compleate system, if you have seen the stock dump its a peice of shit, thats why there is reasonable gains to be had.

So get any 3inch split dump?

What do u think of the cheap E-bay ones? Anything wrong with them?

cheers

r32line what kind of turbo back exhaust did you purchase?

and what do you all think is a better option for i: batmbl split dump front brand new + cat + second hand catback OR a full xforce system for $700?

From what i've heard SOME of the ebay dump pipes are okay, they're still a large improvement over stock.

Not sure about the HKS split dump pipe copies on ebay though, apparently BATMBL's longer wastegate chamber is better suited for reducing turbulence as it re-connects further down the pipe.

Anyone care to elaborate here?

I have always maintained the former. I would always go with that if I needed to upgrade a stock exhaust system.

I trust batmbl's pipes because they look like a good design, lots of people have made power on them and he's a good guy to deal with.

The second hand cat back you can inspect and make sure has no kinks etc and you can wash it out. For a metal pipe as long as it flows as good as it came out of the factory it's going to do it's job - it doesn't matter if some crazy Nihonjin has used it already :bomb_ie:

i have a front pipe from just jap, no cat back just the pipe so all u here is turbo spool lol, im waiting on my cat back rein hard thats on teh way,

my pipe was all one peice from turbo to the cat,

my front pipe lets me drive at alot lower revs and less "boggin down" around the streets, u can feel teh restriction when the flow starts moving more, should all change soo enough

    • The car revs up through the gears much better/faster now, and fuel consumption doesn't really seem to have be affected either on a Hwy cruise, which wasn't expected  The FAB9 intake manifold has been problematic sourcing though, I've contacted Plasmaman to ask about their intake, which you can get different runner lengths spec'd, and, their different options for throttle bodies  The only real physical drawback with the Plasmaman intake is how to connect it to my current OEM style airbox, as FAB9 make a OEM style back half of the airbox to suit the larger diameter throttle body, and all that is required is a 30°bend silicone pipe to mate the throttle body to the airbox Car also goes in for some exhaust work in a week or so to fit the biggest resonator they can fit clearance wise in the front pipe to help remove some of the drone, there isn't alot of realestate under there, a rough guesstimation is it will only be about 3-400mm long and maybe 90-100mm diameter, and with a 60mm exhaust that doesn't leave alot of space for the internal volume of the resonator to do its thing I'm thinking I may need to bin the "high flow" 100 cell cat for something a bit more substantial, yeah, and restrictive, like a 200-400 cell, to help, but, I have ample room for a really large bodied cat to replace the current one which has around a 4" diameter body I may look around in the recycling bins and see if I can find a massive newish cat that was "replaced" with some new full exhaust system that the local exhaust shop in Western Sydney is doing
    • Hahah look at that smile 😂 Just like those ones on IG where they compare the husband in family photos vs husband going fishing lol. I don't think I'll participate this time, clutch isn't in and also the last time I went there were too many numpties on the cruise sessions. Nearly caused a few accidents holding up people and a few guys initiating massive kerb to kerb drifts with heaps of cars right behind them. Not to mention, there were guys on the track session using it as a power cruise session.

    • All Jap Day is coming up again! 13th of July this year. Are you going? Tickets go on sale on Wednesday 6pm. Please let Quang know as well. https://m.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=1163155775853542   I still get shit from my wife for this photo because it is the happiest she has ever seen me. And it's not with her, it's in someone else's car.   Quang's EVO is sick, but that rotary wagon flying past was absolutely bonkers.
