Hey all,

I'm looking at getting an R33 GTS, since I can't really afford the insurance or maintainence on a turbo model. Anyway, I just wanted to know what sort of performance I could expect from a GTS, compared to something like a commodore or falcon.

Also, I've got about $15k. Would I be able to get a manual R33 GTS series 2 within this price? I'd rather get it with a warranty from a dealer, but if I have to I'll get it through a private sale.

okay, 15k can get your a turbo anyways if you know where to look, dealer is probably the last place you want to look because they add alot onto the price.

insurance is same price non turbo/or turbo

maintanance is more for turbo probably, just hope your turbo is in good cond.

have fun

Thanks for the reply. I got quotes on insurance, and I can insure a GTS for $1406, but a GTS-t is $2231. That sorta make the turbo too expensive. Where are you getting insurance from?

Anyway, if you ignore the turbo, do you reckon 15k get me a manual series 2 in good condition?

Hey Rod

I have a 89 R32 GTS. You asked what the performance is like as compared to a falcon or commodore.Well obviously my car is only the RB20DE but i can confidantly say that my car beats, even though only by maybe 0.2 of second my mates VT and my other mates AU.. I flog the AU up untill about 120ish then he starts to pull up to me.

My GTS pulls an 8.2 0-100 time on my gtech and my mates AU pulls a 9.1.. so....

I can generally keep with gts's off the line up untill about 80 then they roar past me!!..

Iv never had the priviledge of racing with a r33 gts so i cant tell you if they are much quicker than my gts but my guess is that they would be maybe a car length ahead.

Oh,, and,the aussie tanks have NO chance through the twisties...the GTS will out handle any commodore or falcon stock for stock...

I dont know where you live mate but in Adelaide there are a few places you can pick up s1 and 2 r33gts't' s for 15grand.. Iv seen pleny of GTS's in the trader for 13 or 14...

As for insurance... my car the GTS costs me 100 a month, my wifes GTS't costs me 119 a month... the value on the gts't is also much higher..Not much differnce really..If you want the name of the insurance company PM me.

good luck

There is a series 2 on eBay (Non turbo) for $12,500

Looks good. White.. Kit. Really nice.

With my R33 GTS I can't give you a dyno sheet or anything, but every person who has driven it has said "this goes really well".

I'm not gonna say I've thrashed every ford and holden i've seen at the lights.. But I think if you're after the Skyline looks, and decent performance, you won't be disappointed.

Hey thanks for the responses guys.

As long as a GTS can beat a commo/folcon off the mark, I'll be happy. I'd love a turbo, if I can find good insurance. I've only called a couple of places, but I might try a few more (although I'm only 20, so I can't really expect too much).

Also, br3tt, thanks for the advice, but I'd be sorta nervous buying a car on e-bay. Has anyone here done it?

Anywayz, that 4 the replies.

Post in the Western Australia section, that you want to buy a R33 N/A I am sure that people might have one or would be willing to help you find one. Also what price have you been quoted for Insurance, I am pretty sure it is cheaper getting a N/A insured then a turbo.

Also when searching for a N/A R33 try to find one with 5 stud wheels and the 4 piston brakes (it was an option), because stopping is better then going fast!

Infact look for a GTS that has as many of the GTST standard options as possible.

This is just my opinion hope it helps.

N/A is actually quite easy to get insurance for compared to turbo. I am 20 and this is the first time insurance has been under my name and not the parents. I went through Torque and am paying $670 a year fully comprehensive cover, pretty damn cheapo if you ask me.

I spoke to some young girl cant remember her name and she said she had been in the same position as me being at uni expensive quotes etc .... managed to get her down to that mark. Had it been a turbo i would have been looking at betwenn $1200 - $2200 a year. Go figure !

So now the plan is just to turbo my engine. If i do crash, plan is to bring it home and get mechanic mate to take it off asap. Anyways just something to think about ...
