series on or series two ecu

does any one know how to tell the difference between them as what the numbers stand for

or know where i could find this info

Check the Nissan Part number against the following list from FAST.

thanxs mate i can tell what computer im running now as mine went arse up and the mechanic just got a second hand one and runs soo rich now there must be a drama with it

in the general automotive section. probably a few pages back now.

it doesn't really matter though. in the r33's the series 1 and series 2 ecu will work in either model (i have personally done this). some people think that the series 2 has the ignitor built into it but they are wrong. the series 2 have the ignitor built into the coils rather than having a seperate ignitor like the s1.

look at the number on the stamp on the front of the ECU. It will have, for example, MEC -52723

If it is MEC-5*** it is a series 1 ecu

If it is MEC-6*** it is a series 1.5 ecu

If it is MEC-7*** it is a series 2 ecu

as aforementioned, they are actually able to be interchanged between the different series anyway. Not really sure on the effects of this though.

just be aware of the auto/manual bit though as detailed above. Iv heard this can influence idle and a range of other things.

i see i see. i thought the ignitor was built into ecu on s2 also. as do many people. i will have a look at the coils. yet another myth busted.

yeah it's a common myth that the ignitor is in the ecu but it isn't, otherwise the coilpack part numbers would be the same and there would be 2 different pfc computers for the different series. but there is only 1 pfc type for the 33 and 2 different coil pack types for the 33.
