if they have reason to believe you may be hiding something, they can search your car on the spot.

When i got my yellow i grabbed my stash and shoved it in my back pocket as i got out of the car, they decided to search my car while they were at it, thank god for quick thinking!

I thought that's the point of warrants? Of course they can say that's what they're thinking, but you're not going anywhere so even if you are hiding something they would find it later. I'm just saying that for if there was already a yellow, coz what they did to Matt is bullshit.

It's only a convenience thing that you allow them to search you're car, because if you just let them do it it will make things quicker. Either they will let you go with little fuss or give you a yellow. But if you tell them they need a warrant you are 100% going home with a yellow because you were a c**t to them. :woot:

I've only had one inspection and that was only the engine, but if he had of gone inside my car without permission, even though I have nothing to hide, I would have told him to get out. He's not stealing any of my gummi bears.

yea i know what your saying, there are dickhead cops out there and there are good cops out there, its a fact that will never change.

If it happens to me again I will let them search the car but will walk up to the guys partner and politely ask him the legalities of what they are doing.

I've reserved myself to only asking for the cops details if they begin to show me cheek, if you do it before you cop the cheek, its insukting to them...

When i got my yellow i knew it was gonna happen, and i actually said to them "yea i understand the situation and it is probably fair that i cop the yellow as I havn't exactly done the right thing and get permits", they respected that and i got out of there nice and quickly. They only wrote 'pod filter' on the thing which in the eyes of a pit inspector, is a hell of alot better than the other things they could have got me for.

Thing is though, i asked the pit inspector if i could get permits, he told me they were pointless and that getting them was a waste of time. So i shall simply tell that to the next cop that tries to sticker me, if he tries to justify himself I'll tell him WHY the inspector thinks permits are pointless. Because no matter how many you have, cops regularly blatently ignore the permits, or they will just get you for something else, kinda defeats the whole purpose of permits doesn't it!

agreed, my car will be going over the pits in the next week to remove the yellow, I WILL NOT be paying for permits.

However, last time i went, the pits guys said that I could not leave without permits?!

I think you may be confusing criminal law with the road traffic act.

Yes they can search your car, at whim, thats why its called a 'random vehicle check' If you try and stop them, then you will be committing an offence, under the road traffic act

What is the problem with a cop doing a random liscence check? what is the problem with a cop who stops a car? If your car was stolen, and a cop just happened to stop the guy stealing it, you would be pretty bloody happy.

There just seems to be alot of whingers on here, some people need to grow up

Agreed, but.... there are some f**khead cops out there. My lil bro was drivin my old girls mazda sp23 the other day goin up to his gf's and got pulled ova for no apparent reason. so as the cop was talkin to him he asks the officer why he was pulled ova.. and the cop, obviously a slow borin nite 4 him, reply's to my bro, "are u givin me cheak here..? would u like me to put a yellow on this thing.." and my brother, bein a bit suprised is wonderin wtf is goin on and starts laughin goin "it's about 3 months old and ur gonna put a yellow on it.." and so he did.

the car had only just been run in... completely stock, new out the shop.

wats the go with that? how can u put a yellow sticker on somethin like that.. a yellow sticker shouldnt be a punishment for not agreeing with these stupid officers.

Anyways just thought i'd tell yous my lil story

No problem with a cop doing a random license check, but I do have a problem with harrassment.

I have certainly grown up too champ, and I am whinging because the treatment modified car owners get is absolutely rediculous. If your in the wrong, fair enough, if your not then why the rough treatment?!

Do a random license check, I dont mind but dont use that as a weak excuse to put a yellow sticker on a car.

revenue raising and meeting targets accts for 90% of yellow stickers in my opinion. cops dont receive any training at all on vehicle modifications so MOST of the time they have no clue of what they are looking at.

How many people have been yellowed for having a factory fitted BOV?? I know a guy who was yellowed for having a genuine STi wing on his WRX, and someone who was stickered for having a jap spec s15 Silvia with the factory pillar mounted boost gauge.

Learn the rules first before you start barking orders please Mr C unstable!

seriously, you expect to appear grown up with comments like that? lol

8005TED, if cops are doing such a shit job (cos to read your posts, it appears you think coppers are shit) - Do you think you can do a much better job, why not join up and do something about it?

owning a modified car or import gets attention form everybody, if you dont like it, buy a stock commodore

Yes, from my experience and encounters I do think traffic cops are sh*t and no i will not be joining up because i have a new police recruit in the family and he has told me how they operate on the streets and the training, or lack there of, of motor vehicles and mods.

The attention imports get is fine, its the unwarranted harrassment that I do not like.....

P.S I will never own a stock commodore.....

Permits are a go for me! Saved me a yellow (but didnt save my points). And i dont have a bov, i think it's my filter that makes a similar noise and I know I'm going to have trouble explaining that one.

And aftermarket air filters are legal - as long as they are fitted securely, you don't need and cannot get a permit for it.

Before you go getting permits, I'd suggest you find out what you can and can't get permits for. If you're at the pits asking for a permit for your incar boost controller, your stretched rubber or mech diff, you'll find yourself having a list of things to fix instead! :P

I have owned an imported car for 5 years - with mods - and not once been pulled over to be given a yellow sticker. I don't even have permits.

Boosted - you come on here and whinge that cops arent taught about vehicle mods and engines. Last time I checked a cop's job was to enforce the law not be a mechanic. They give you a yellow sticker because they think what is on your car is illegal and it should be checked. It is the job of the people at the Pits to determine whether it definitely is or not.

Do you think that a cop should have to put up with attitude from people like you after they have come from a domestic violence case, rape, child abuse, bashing of eldery people etc. You're car and you're mods are insignificant in the day of a cops life. Look at the bigger picture. Why should a cop spend the majority of their training on the plethora of engines and mods - legal or not? Shouldn't they be training on how to protect the public from criminals?

cops have never received "attitude" from me, as for them enforcing the law, i dont believe a yellow sticker for a factory blow off valve constitutes enforcing the law. its just another $52 for the pits and a hassle for the owner.

i dont believe cops have very good knowledge of imports, mods etc which is the case i am trying to put forward here.

giving someone a yellow sticker based on their limited knowledge, is an abuse of power in my opinion. the officer that pulled me over also claimed that no vehicles in Aust or Japan came out with wheels wider than 7". I queried this and said that late model HSV wheels are atleast 8" wide, i looked me in the face and said, thats impossible and that no wheels are 8" wide!

as i stated earlier, its designated traffic cops, who are on duty to pull over cars/issue defects that i am talking about here, not those who are involved in drug cases/rape/murder/child abuse/elderly bashings etc etc

VERY well put Sneeza!

Made me imagine being a cop, driving back to station from a more serous crime, pulling some dude over in a modified car, with no permits, and having to deal with attitude. You'd slap a yellow on, sigh, and keep on driving back to the station without a second thought.

Although arn't deticatated traffic cops around for the pure reason of dealing with traffic issues and nothing more?

What didn't you understand about what I said? They give you a yellow because they "think" its illegal and should be checked by the Pits. Its what the Pits are there for.....

Explain to me how they can fit into 6 months Police training all the knowledge someone at the pits would know about cars and mods as well as everything else. hrmm... thats right.. they can't and they shouldn't have to.

The traffic branch of the WA police was disbanded by the previous commissioner and they are only just building it up again. So really there arent any TRUE traffic cops like there were back in the 80's. All cops are expected to do all duties of a police officer. Not just traffic. So yes... the cop pulling you over probably did just see a wife get beaten to hell by her alcoholic husband.

Why should a cop spend the majority of their training on the plethora of engines and mods - legal or not? Shouldn't they be training on how to protect the public from criminals?

i just feel that leave fate of your vehicle in the hands of a policeman who has very limited, if any, knowledge is unfair.

Im happy to deal with it though, as it will only get worse i reckon....

yes they should be trained to do a better job protecting the public from criminals also....

The cop that pulled me advised he was a designated traffic cop, if this is not the case, then is saying that some form of intimidation or something? it seems stories between the police, the media, the pits etc varies from day to day and place to place.....

He would have been a traffic cop - I said they are building it back up again but they aren't like they were in the 80's.... Again you havn't read what I said. Just cause you are 'Traffic' doesnt mean you won't be called to other incidents.
