Criminals? Like ones who do burnouts in car parks at cruises? Yes I agree with you there.

what, something about a cruise to a pub or something? did u get his rego? dob him in.....

im not approving reckless or careless driving, in fact someone caught doing such a thing should loose their license and have their car impounded.....

im sure u could get a hold of the rego of the vehicle if it is still bothering you also, as it was a club cruise that was tarnished by it.

I think the bigger picture is being missed, by all accounts Matt has done nothing at all wrong, been pulled over for nothing, and defected for something which honestly isn't a big deal. Most days (including today) I see these various things:

* Damaged vehicles with parts hanging off unsecured (namely bumpers & side mirrors, now tell me that isn't dangerous)

* Bald tyres

* Cars with excessive EXTERIOR rust, can you imagine what it's like underneath????

* Cars with black smoke continuously coming from the exhaust

* Cars who's engine you hear at traffic lights that sound like something is either going to fall off or explode

Now the thing that sucks, I would guess 8 times out of 10 an import is driving down the steet alongside a 20 year old unmaintained car, the import would be pulled over. Our cars have bigger & better brakes, are serviced regularly, use quality products for modifcations & are generally better kept than most cars on the road. But does this help when it comes to visiting friends or going to work? NO.

I have been pulled over only twice in just under a year, the first time for going through a roundabout (if you could call it that) at 50, was a traffic cop at about 9:30pm & he was generally good to me. He asked if my fmic was standard or a/m, when I said a/m he asked for the permit. I said I had none, he got me to pop the bonnet & was greeted with stainless steel piping, hi-mount turbo etc etc but he wasn't too concerned. He just told me to take is easier around them because some idiot coming the other way might not look & because was travelling a bit quick it could ruin a nice car.

I had no problem with that, the 2nd one I did. I was heading home at about 11pm on a Tuesday night from sor, and where the Kwinana links with the Mitchell was closed for roadworks. Having never gone where the detour was I missed the tunnel exit which I would have been fine in, but as a result just went through Northbridge. I came up to a set of light where the was 4 cars turning right, the 4th was a marked police car. When it went green I took off as normal, and then noticed the cop decided not to turn right.

About 100m down the road we got to a red light with him behind me, then not long after here the lights went on & I pulled over. "Random breath test & license check" he said, both were no problem while his partner circled the car with his torch. He gave me my license back & that was it, but just both in the general body language & attitude told me I would have had an inspection if where I pulled over didn't mean their car was still mostly in the way of other cars.

This pissed me off because he was turning right and when he seen a skyline roll past him, all of a sudden I was "random". For the record I don't have problems with cops & I hopefully never will, but there are ones out there that aren't worthy of the uniform.

if u think modified cars arent targeted, then your kidding yourself......

ive had both good and bad experiences with cops, all im saying is that a bit of consistancy needs to come to the fold.

Any car that stands out, will get attention - dont need to be a brain surgeon to work that out.

If you dont like the attention driving a nice car draws, buy a commodore - if you dont want a commodore - deal with it

of course a modified car will attract more attention from the cops, and so it should - ANY car that is varied from ADRs is not street legal - now which car is more likely to be varied:

1/ the stock commodore

2/ the modified car

Once again, it isnt really hard to work out now is it?

Would you look for drugs on some strung out junkie who is walking around the street off his face? or on a guy who has just walked out of a church wearing a suit, well groomed and smelling of aftershave? (ok, mr kizon may be an exception here )

Why wouldn't the police look at modified cars? everyone else does - all they are doing is trying to make sure everyone follows the rules - if they beleive there MAY have been a breach of those laws, they investigate, and take action as necessary - if they didnt, they arent doing what they are being paid to do. Once agian, it aint rocket science.

if you have a problem with cops trying to enforce the law - lobby parliament to have the laws changed, the cops dont make the rules, they just try and make sure the rules are followed - its their job, why shouldnt they do it?

why is it so hard to understand, if the cops arent sure, they send the car to be inspected TO MAKE SURE

its that simple.

And for you that wish cops were better educated, wait until they start pulling kick panels to check the ecu, or know which model of AFM goes with which car, or the colour of factor injectors, etc - THEN they will know what they are doing, and just listen to the whingers then.

once again id like to state that stickering a car for a genuine reason is fine, its stickering a car for something legal or not requiring a permit that isnt right. If thats just a cop doing his job then clearly he is under-qualified.

its like employing someone to do a job but they arent qualified to do it properly. perhaps some basic general knowledge training before the job would be a good idea rather than NOTHING AT ALL.

Cops having to 'make sure' something is legal is silly in my opinion because its an inconvenience, revenue raising, target achieving and more importantly a waste of time if its not warranted.

their lack of knowledge gives them too much power. but thats the facts of life and im happy to deal with it Steve. Im sure you are well aware that no amount of lobbying will change these laws.....

If the police think somethings illegal and give you a yellow, i don't think we should have to pay the pits to check unless what they 'thought' was illegal -> really is illegal (like a fine).

OK the difference is a cop is NOT a mechanic and does not have a knowledge of what is legal and what is illegal, then why can he make the decision -

Cops should be able to sticker obvious things such as cars that are barely running blowing smoke and rusted out any one can tell they shouldnt be on the road.
