Long Distance Driving

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys,

I'm a long time reader but never posted much on this forum. I will be flying up to brisbane this week to buy a GTR and am undecided as weather or not to drive it back or just get it shipped. The actual driving doesn't worry me it's more will the car be alright doing the trip. The car is modified and has recentley had an engine rebuild.

Any opinions would be greatley appreciated.

I've done the Brisbane-Sydney drive with an unknown modified car before and was fine. You have twice as far to go, so may be a bit hairy.

I suggest that maybe you don't even have enough time to book freight? Can you? If not, you may be forced to drive.

Go the pacific hwy(as opposed to the New England hwy), as there are more well equipped towns along the way to help out should you have a problem.

Yeah I have already organised it to be covered by the racv who covers nationally through nrma and such. My thoughts were to just run a very low boost setting and take it easy.

Freighting it wouldn't really be a problem I have somewhere to store it indefinatley in Brisbane, I just haven't been able to find a freight company that either specialises in these type of cars or I would trust to move it.

How fresh is the engine and is there receipts for the claimed work?

If the engine is newly fresh, the last thing you want to do is keep it at a constant rpm for prolonged periods.

Just my 2c

I'd suggest trucking it bcak down.

Then you can (at your leisure) have it checked out at a workshop, or service it before driving it etc. Better than having it break down when ur on the highway in the middle of nowhere.
