Ive got a set of 17x9 rims on my 32 GTR. Got 2 new Bridgestone s-03 on the front and some worn G3 on the rear , I'm keen on some 18's in the near future and dont want to spend another $450 a tyre for the 17x255 to match those ive got. Thinking of getting a set of 4 nankangs and taking the basically new bridgestones off.

My GTR is a sensible daily driver, just wondering whether people have had or not had probs using them on the road...guess my main concern is some wet weather with winter approaching.

Im aware of the "you get what you pay for" angle but I want 18's and dont want to waste on getting top quality tyres before selling the 17's off....

Any help would be great. cheers. Tom.

Well this may not be of much help, but my friend had some 215/45 NS-II Nankangs on 17x9 R33 GT-R wheels on his S13 which he uses for drifting and after doing a few runs with them the thought something

was broken on the car because they had so much flex in the tread/sidewalls.

As a daily driver tyre they may be fine...

I have 265/35/18's Nankang NS 11's on the rear of my R33 GTR, fine for everyday driving, not noisy, grip in the dry and wet, friend of mine got 45000 out of a set - however no good on the track. Thats what semi slicks r for :D

I only bought them for price not for handling ability as my GTR is not flogged on the street only on the track (with Semi's)

I agree. with the above.

I have a set on my car and they are fine fir daily drivivg but as soon as they get hot they squeal and flex.

If I had a GTR I wouldn't put them on if i had a choice. Even the Falken cheapies are better than the nankang...

I have very worn Nankangs in 17x9@255 on the rear of my R32 GTR (300+ rwkw) and they are ok. For the first 10km of driving I can get the back end to step out a foot or 2 if I deliberately hook it around a corner. After that first 10km they are warm and I can't slide them neither around corners or in a straight line.

My best 60ft is 1.74sec and thats on only about the 3rd or 4th attempt at a high rpm launch, they have more in them yet.

I had to borrow a set of tyres for a while, and I ended up borrowing a mate's Nankang NS II's.

As long as you're aware that the marketing guff is just that, and use them as commuter tyres that you'd stick on a NA hot hatch, they're fine. I didn't go carving up a mountain road on them, but to get to and from work they were more than adequate.

Appreciate the interest and cheers for helping out. I thought it was best to ask people who actually had used them rather than assume. I'll see how I go but maybe if i get a set of 17x235 with a bit of stretched style maybe i can find some better quality for cheaper....?

So you are prepared to sacrifice handling, acceleration, braking, tyre wear and ride for looks, because you can't afford to buy decent tyres for the 18"s. Personally I would spend the money on good 17" tyres and know that I had a GTR with better handling, faster accelerating, longer tyre life, superior braking and more ride comfort.

Im glad i had my weeties this morning cos that was pretty harsh! :) I was expecting to hear something about my ma before i read it all!

Nah im only thinking of getting cheap 17inch tyres as I want to sell the rims soon. I figure I wont get my money back on spending near on 900 bucks for two 17inch tyres for a set i dont plan on keeping. For 900 bucks i could get a set of 4 nankangs with change and then sell 2 near brand new bridgestone so-3 to offset that.

If i knew i was keeping the rims i wouldnt have posed the question about the dirt cheap tyres as I would have just got some more bridgestones. Cheers again for 2c, its good to hear what different kids think.

i say and now Nankangs are shit colse to a plastic bad is what they are, woud never put on a gtr mabye if your a bit of a old lady driver yer but hell no 4 gtr, benm mabye if you get better tryes you might run a better time 300+kw and you 12.7???? iam perrty shore with 250kw+ you can run a 12, with 300+kw you should be running low 12s all the time mabye its your tyres ??? If you want some value for money tyres, give the Hankook Ventus K104s a go. They're not rubbish like the Nankangs are and for the money they are good stuff. My mate had Nankang NS-1s or whatever and they were horribly noisy, poor grip and all of them wore out unevenly. Dodgy stuff!

Do a search on the forums for peoples impressions on the Hankooks. Personally I have them and give them 2 thumbs up. Sure they are no Bridgie SO-3s but I don't drive hard enough to warrant their ridiculous cost.

For the record I paid $250 ea for 255/40/17s.

I second what Sydneykid said.

How long are you planning to run with the 17s before going to the 18s?

How many km do you expect to travel in that time?

The tyres may (I have doubts) be okay if only driven to and from work... but why own a GTR if that's the only driving you're going to do.

I've never driven a car with these tyres, but I've been a passenger many times in a WRX that had them & thought that they were rubbish.

Hey guys, check out Toyo Proxes T1R, I use them on the GTR and my daily driver, they grip well in wet and dry, give a comfortable ride even with coil over suspension and seem to be lasting well. They tend to price alongside of Falkens. Have pushed them to the limit in the GTR, they are predictable and give good feedback.

    • Hey guys. I have a 400R on its way to Australia from Japan currently and have a few questions I’m hoping others may be able to help with.   Wondering if anyone here has had any luck getting the Sat nav unit to work in Australia!? Assuming the Stereo is as simple as a band expanded and tv won’t work?  Seeing as they’re based off a Q50 which is Aus delivered is there any way to link that system to the nav? Nav modules and head unit are different part numbers and appear slightly different at the rear with plug ins etc. can I put my xtrail sd card into the rv37 and will that convert the maps or update to Australian? Has anyone got any advice here?     also has anyone fitted the factory remote start and Security system once it’s landed in Australia? I put an enquirey to Nissan Japan in via a third party, and they suggested it needs a Nissan Japan dealers device to setup and couldn’t guarantee if one here could do it or not. They can supply and I can physically fit it but to setup I would need a dealers device. Any information here would be appreciated also. I’ve seen one here with it fitted already prior to leaving Japan at a dealer/inporter, so clearly passes compliance and works when fitted Japan and doesn’t need changing here.      also, does the tyre inflation sensors work here? Does anything change with them when the vehicle arrives? Where are they actually situated? I’ve read they have batteries and they need to changing at times and seems like resetting involves the nav system?    any help here would be appreciated and any other aust specific information to help would be great. Looking forward to see what the current generation skyline is like and eager to see how many of the gadgets can be utilised here.  Thanks in advance 
    • Do need to take it with a pinch of salt. One of the adapter failures, they clearly had setup issues with the flywheel.  One of the slipping ones I spoke to and it was pretty clear the throwout was riding, rather than fix, just swapped to a new clutch.    These clutches are being put in anything from 5k offroad 4x4 beaters, GR yaris, 500hp commodores to 1200hp barra monsters. Bound to be some issues in some of them when they are not a simple bolt in affair due to the changes in height.    There is a lot going on in this picture and unless I did the job myself no way to tell what really happened. 
    • I did this mod in 2019  You just have to modify the top bracket of the ABS/TC/Fuel Pump Control ECU so it sits more upright and closer to the back seat and run a good quality positive battery lead from the engine bay, the negative lead i just bolted down to the body in the boot.
