i was just on the USS website, lookin thru the cars comin up for auction, and i wanted to know how to find out more about the cars? is there anyway? how can u tell if the car is turbo/non turbo if u cant tell from the styling cues? is there anywhere that will tell me an average sorta price these cars go for, and explain the rating system. i know 1 is crap, 5 is awesome, but what about R and R/A things like that...

Damn...Prices for 32 GT-Rs have really fallen through. Some of those auction result prices are unbelievably cheap. Wonder how much has to be added in the end to those FOB prices to get the cars on the road in Oz?

A lot of money, 10% import duty+ freight ( $2K) plus gst on all that +compliance cost + removing all aftermarket parts+ new tyres and maybe new genuine brake pads . What about an engine rebuilt , they are up to 17 yo cars . Forget about bringing R rated cars too, you may not get compianceand if its rusty, again no compliance .

i dont think they've fallen at all? looking at a lot of the 32 GTRs on amayama shows prices of anywhere from 1.3mil to 1.7 mil for Vspec. a 1.3mil car will be quite a bit over $20K landed and comlied here. probably closer to $25K +.

5,328.00 USD = 7,175.00 AUD

Even with everything that gets added to FOB price to get in on the road here, that'd still be cheap.

5,328.00 USD = 7,175.00 AUD

Even with everything that gets added to FOB price to get in on the road here, that'd still be cheap.

Just a quick estimate on this car .Say $7200 fob +$ 720 import duty + $2000 transport=$9920 +1000 agents commission =$10920+$1092 GST=12012 + compliance plate say $3500=$15512 + removal of aftermarket parts + tyres + brake pads (almost certainly in a car with 133 k k's ) maybe brake rotors ?Dont forget they must be genuine + rego + maybe a new engine ? How cheap does it look now ?

Not many 32 gtrs would sell this low either , a more decent unit would be over 1 million jp.

Richard a 1.2 million car fob would be $20,700 landed in australia + compliance + tyres ++++ = at best $26 k and maybe even $30 k ( Rate used $1= 85 jpy) Todays rate is 86.8 but you are not going to get that the bank wants to make money too, so 85 would be about right.

When you actualy see the 500-700, 000 cars in person you will see what Richard is on about . Its very hard to find a good R32 and when you do expect to pay well above 1 million jpy.

Actualy its even hard to find a decent R34 gtr ( to my liking at least ) believe it or not mast have been exposed to salt and they are RUSTY. Then they give them a 4-4.5 rating just because they have low K's .

I'm not saying they are rusted out , far from it but when i see the corrosion spots , rusty bolts and rust marks under the car ( when they come here they spray them with underbody so you cant see it ) i run away . Rust is like a cancer it wont go away, always comes back, thats the reason i bought my car from the south and not around Tokyo, i hate rust.

By the way when you look at auction resaults make sure the car was sold at that price not what the highest bid was and then passed in . Auction price is not FOB price either .

Cheers for the insight. I like getting an un-biased opinion from someone who actually knows what they're talking about. As far as the underbody spray goes, I have seen what you're talking about there- a fair few R32's I've looked under have had some suspiciously new looking black sh#t sprayed on *LOL*. Anyway, I stand corrected.

I always thought the people that graded the cars for auction, though, were more exacting in their standards (ie. A car with very low kays for its age and good external appearance would not get a high grading if it had spent its life wading through road salt.) Wrong I guess.

yeah they definately are not exacting. dont forget the auction house makes good money when cars sell. they dont want to have cars being listed and not sold as they dont make as much $$.

this is why beware of anyone who bids on cars without actually seeing them on the ground. especially cars around the 3.5B-4.0A grades. you can look at 3 cars with the same grade and 2 will be so bad it's not funny, and the 3rd one may be quite nice.

My car would have been 'R' graded if it was at a Japanese auction house, but it has no evidence whatsoever of previous chassis damage. It was just a cosmetic repair. I guess, like you say, you'd have to be there and have a good look over the cars yourself to know the true condition.

well i just payed 27 k for my93 model a couple months ago at least we have the knowledge that we have a better crank etc than the earlier gtr's and with the rules pre 89 or 15 year rule that most of the older ones cam in under i bet we have a better quality car coz the older cars could have been involved in bad prrangs etc

in my experience ..150+ imported...never seen any of them in person before purchase..using auction sheet only..it depends on the auction house ..some are seller orientated and a COUPLE !!! are buyer biased ..which are the only ones i buy from now

ie. if i ever meet the guy who grades cars at JAA tokyo i`m gonna kick him in the nuts.. :)
