Advice needed!

I have a 33 gtr with 18 x 10 front and rear wrapped in 265/35/18. I also have Tein coliovers (jap spec and just height adjustable). I have had my two front tyres scrub out within 10,000 KM down to the canvas on the inside. Obviously this is a camber issue and I've had a wheel allignment just conducted and the mechanic said that the camber cannot be adjusted anymore and they sit at -3 degrees at the front. The rears are just under -2 degrees so aren't as bad as the fronts and are wearing OK.

Can the 33 GTR handle 10" rims on the front? If so how can I adjust the front camber to handle the 18x10" rims the cheapest way. Is it camber kits or adjustable pillow mounts or up grade suspension? I'm a bit lost *scratches head*

Any advice is appreciated from the group.

Cheers

Three degrees is alot of camber for the road.

One of your cheaper options is the Whiteline camber adjustment kits. The front end will give you +/- one degree and the rear kit +/- 0.75 degree (You can use two kits on the rear). You probably need to remove a degree from either end.

Question for you - what is the ride height? Also what sway bars do you have?

Ride height is not too low, just under legal however have a 3.5" exhaust which sits low. I think it would be about 1-1.5 inches below standard? I think the sway bars are all standard GTR, I'll check when I get home. Thanks for the help keep the advice coming :D

Measure from the underside of the guard to the centre of the wheel. The more you lower a Skyline the more -ve camber you get. Although -3 degrees sounds like alot if you have only lowered it by and inch.

If you have a look in the group buys section you should find a group buy for the R33 Gt-R for Whiteline bits. I would suggest the camber kits & some adjustable sway bars is a good start.

As the guys have said, ride height is critical, so measure it. If it's below 355 mm (centre of wheel to guard) on the front and 345 mm on the rear then it's too low. Raise it up to 355/345 and then meaure the camber. I have never seen an R33GTR go much over 2 degrees at that height.

This is what is usually needed for each height increment, note that all measurements are centre of wheel to guard;

Standard (new) height is 380 mm front and 370 mm rear

360/350 mm needs only the standard rear camber adjusters

350/340 mm needs 1 front camber kit and 1 rear camber kit

340/330 mm needs I front camber kit and 2 rear camber kits

The Group Buy link for R33GTR follows;

As well as all of the prices, it has some usefull tips and feed back from the guys.

:P cheers :D

Thanks Heaps!

Will get the measuring tools out tonight and may contact you Sydneykid to purchase some of the camber kits because of your time taken to reply it is appreciated *stops kissing ass* :P

Looks like I may have to raise the old girl abit :spank:

Thanks again guys for your input.

Have just measured the height of the GTR last night and found that the front and rear are both set at 345mm

Will be raising the front on the weekend ( :) for adjustable coilovers) up to 355mm and see how it looks. If I don't like it that high I will be ordering a front camber kit and lowering the front back down

Once I raise the front up 10mm, will I need a new wheel alignment, or will it automatically reduce the negative camber?

Also is there any difference in having the front the same height as the back?

:D

Um, it is not about the ATTESSA system. It is about the relationship between the COG & the roll centres at either end of the car. Lowering a GT-R too much makes the roll centre migrate & will give you odd handling.

Most people find that the camber kit for the rear is needed before the front - this is simply a function of the suspension geometry. 10mm will help, but may not make a whole heap of difference.

Wheel alignment? Other than the rear camber settings and the front & rear toe setting unless you get the Whitleine kits there isn't really much you can align. Having said that it is usually $60 well spent.

Before you start (Friday afternoon may be a good time) have a look at the state of the threads on the dampers. If they look to be grotty & horrible & seized give the threads a hose with some WD40 before you get handy with the C spanners.

Thanks once again,

Already got the WD 40 can ready to go as I know the fronts do not have the best looking thread :)

In regards to the Wheel alignment I have just had one done last week [thats what has prompted the action] just wanted to know when I raise the front 10mm will it bring in the camber from -3 to -2 automatically?

Not sure exactly how far it will move...

If you are handy with a calculator you can work it out. Just measure how far the top of the rim is closer to the centreline of the car than the bottom. A bit of basic trig (tan theta equals opposite over adjacent side etc etc) & you have your camber measurement.

Not sure how your toe settings at the front will be affected by the change in ride height as the front links are not parallel like the rears.

Um, it is not about the ATTESSA system.

The R34 GTR has a torque split in the MFD and we did some tests on the car with the wheel arches even and then set correctly and you'd be amazed at the difference in the drive splits for the same circumstances. We couldn't actually get to a 50/50 split with the front end lowered even at launch.

Hi Guys,

Have just raised the front up to 355 and the rear to 345 (thanks Sydneykid). Just a quick question - if the wheel alignment was done before the car was raised and the camber was adjusted as far as it could, when I raised it by 10mm would it automatically have reduced the negative camber slightly or should I take it somewhere for further adjustments?

Thanks for ya input.

Scott

well theoretically the more you raise it the less neg camber you will have. BUT raising 10mm may not give a huge difference. regardless, even if you do take it to a wheel allignment place they cant adjust the camber, only measure it for you (unless you get a front camber bush kit, or adjustable upper arms).

Hi Scott, 10 mm, no problem, forget about it, move on.

 Cheers :ban:
