happens to every 32 GTR owner... *looks at jayce...* :)

Reviewed this quote now two weeks later...nope;still doesn't make sense....

I'm almost embarassed that I want to pull down such a great example of Nissan's finest that's running so well...

jayce and geordie are the only two people with r32 gtr's (in the a.c.t/qbn) that i know that didn't have to rebuild their motors after purchasing their gtr, because of the motor being a lemon or of 'other' imperfections if there are others out there no pun intended.

just goes to show when purchasing an import you must (after getting ownership of the vehicle) get it thoroughly checked and serviced, by a PROPER AUTHORISED WORKSHOP that deals with imports day in and day out, regardless if you decide to putt putt or hammer it here and there, here is a list of workshops in a.c.t/qbn area that i trust fully in:

ed at integra automotive (tuner/parts extrodinaire, famous for his 'on road tuning' capabilities also uses pete's 2WD dyno from autotech from time to time, has a 'thing/partnership' with greg at pro engines)

greg at pro engines (can bloody well rebuild anything)

john at trojan imports (parts grandmaster/rebuilder/ in a good way crazy bastard with crazy results uses jakes dyno and tuning capabilities to well.... get crazy results, has massive contacts list for importing parts as small as BOV's to as large as complete cars)

jake at jakes performance (tuner/parts/fabricator/engine rebuilder extrodinaire and much much more, like ed at integra gets the job done with more than excellent results, has his own in-house 2WD dyno that pretty much gets exhausted at the end of the day)

Pfft mine didnt need a rebuild, was just a shop that shall remained unnamed that decided it was stuffed and pulled it apart. So has anyone seen those new Evos?

Bah it needed a rebuild didnt you say it had some really dodgy noises coming from it and you took it to the place that sounds like mitsubishi ***'s and they made it worse ???

I was referring to the rebuild I had almost 3 years ago not long after I bought the car.

It made some really bad noises which was every tooth of the 3rd gear cog floating around in the gearbox hitting other bits of metal and a pressure plate snapped into 3 pieces :/ Nothing wrong with the engine though, was in remarkably good condition for its age.

Stunnd - Id be Shocked :/. I would be interested to know what exactly you find out about your engine.

Im really sorry you experienced this first hand. Suggest you put it in your lessons learned part of the brain and move on. There's no other option.

A lot of us are guilty of this lesson. At least SAU has been with us for 4 years now and has a heap of info that can help and save you from making mistakes when buying or fixing your ride.

Most buy the Skyline and then find the site. Imagine the heartache that would be saved if we did research first.

Remember tho - Sometimes sh*t just happens.

If it comes to a rebuild - A big YES for Greg n Warren @ Pro Engines. Best rebuild, good price, - honest shop. You want to take it a place you can trust where the guys know and do the business - take it to Pro Engines.

I've slammed that *** workshop publicly many times on this forum, well actually. I've told a true story a few times, naming and shaming. I didn't know it was such a big issue.

    • Here's one I help build and tuned a decade ago, Garrett  GTX3071R Gen 1, T3 twin scroll 0.83 rear housing. Went from larger 272 cams down to smaller Tomei Poncams to help with the low end. S13 non VCT motor. Car was purpose built for the track, hence low down was the focus. Note the actual dyno chart shows lower boost, however the EBC and boost gauge showed 1.9Bar (Ignore the torque, I was young and didn't know how to set derived torque)
    • I’m doing some side developments on SR20det S13 engines, its one my hobby cars used it to compare flow capacity of some smaller size wheels. SR20det is one of another JDM legendary engines I'm sure there are plenty of SR enthusiasts on this forum, I will share results some common turbo configurations here. a quick run down of what the car is: Wide body 180sx Type X with black top engine (blue). It has: Stock bottom end Haltech 1500 ECU 5-0 motorsports trigger kit Kelford SR20DET Beehive Spring with Titanium Retainers Kelford Cams SR20DET S13 188-B 268/272 Cams G25-660 Turbocharger in T2 .64 rear housing internally gated ARP Head studs MLS head gasket 1000CC ID injectors Walbro 450L Fuel pump Front mount cooler kit JJR’s 3 inches turbo back exhaust (its too short for the 180sx it had to be extended) Pump 98 fuel Hub Dyno tune So far made 270rwkws at 22psi full boost by 4500RPM. Engine is very knock limited hence a pretty bad looking top end. From previous experiences it seems like SR20dets are happier with bigger size turbine, some thing like a GT30 would make way better top end, but on same time response is lost. It won't be a problem with S15 VCT engines. I'll be testing alternative turbine housing, turbine wheel and possibly dump pipe options for extra flow to resolve the problem and of course E85 would resolve all the issues.
    • Awesome writeup and details. Thanks for sharing the story so far. I can relate to parts of it with my previous car and some of the issues I had to deal with.
    • Wow the colour matched hard top completely transforms the car. Are there any nice front lip options for the car or is that off the table?
    • Generally yes but for some reason I've been ruthless this time around!  I might even need to do another tip run after the way I've finally been able to hit the delete button on shit I've stepped over, stepped around and tripped over for the past 10 years!
