I was trying to fit my tomei poncams last night and everything was fine until........

I tried to fit the Cas unit to the front of the exhaust cam, its got a different kind of 'conection'.

Is there a difference between some of the rb25's cas unit? Mine has teeth and one locating lug that sticks out, the cam has two locating lugs...

I live in the uk and bought the cams from nengun so I am going to have to find some way of making them work, even If i have to buy a different Cas unit.

please help, anyone with photos of diffenert cas or cams?

thanks

Tom

also believe that the base circle is different on them too..

what is the product serial number for the cams you have ?

what is the month and year of your car as well??

pre oct 97 R33's all use the same cam regardless of series.. post oct 97 use the Series 2 option poncam, then r34 is different again.

The month and year of the car is unknown as its in my s13and I forgot he car I got it out of...... oh well...

I do know its a series two, I think it was a 96 or 97.

The cams came in a box that I chucked out, but they were for an r33. Maybe a late on with the r34 cas??

I have spoken to some guys here in the uk and I'm sure I have r34 cams so I'm going to fit r34 cas.

Thanks for the help lads.

143050

ECR33 Series 2 (RB25DET) - Duration: IN, EX 256 Lift: IN,EX 8.5mm

Thats what its says on the nengun web site.

So if I have these cams and they dont fit???? I must have a series 1 motor? unless thery sent the wrong ones... but i chucked the box now.

How can I tell quickly if i have a series 1?

Can someone post a photo of series 1 and 2 or r34 cas? I just want to know what car has the cas driven by these cams.

thanks

If you have a series one you should have a ignitor unit at the end of your coil pack rack at the back of the engine on the black plastic cover. Series 2 25's dont have a seperate ignitor pack.

also the throttle position sensor will look like a single unit on the S1 and look like a double on a series 2 .. but that still doesn't help the fact that a S2 made before oct 97 will still not be able to use these.

get a r34 or my98 onward r33 crank angle sensor. or buy new cams. you can sell your existing crankangle sensor easy enough.

not sure on base circle but

and you need to swap the two triger wires around in the plug.. ie green/yellow green/red i think. the black ones earth the black/white is power

Ok mine is a series 1. it has the ignitor at the back on the top.

I'm thinking these are series 2 cams as I cant see how they woulb send r34 ones and i'm sure the box said r33 rb25det.

Is it ok to swap series1/2 cas. how much are they on here as I only found one tuner over here and they want nerly $1200au . that was for the r34 though.

I still would like to find an image of what cams / cas haved what drive, just to be sure what I have.

If they are 34 cams i'll just sell them.

I quickly made this models up to show what the difference is. If anyone can be sure what the tomei one is for, then please tell me.

My old cams have this to drive the cas - images 1 and 3

the tomei cams have this kind of drive, anyone know what car this is for? - images 2 and 4

once again, thanks for the help.

  • 3 months later...

I am bumping this thread up because I seem to have the same problem. My motor is a SII rb25det (without ignitor). I just bought some tomei poncams part# 143050 and the cam angle sensor is different. Is it confirmed that I have to get an r34 cas and that it will work with my motor?

Bump :)

Was this ever resolved? What cams are in the very late S2's with the black CAS? Is it cams from the Neo engine???

According to wiki the RB25DET and Neo cams are different profile:

RB25DET Camshaft duration 240°in, 240°ex lift: 7.8mm in, 7.8mm ex

RB25DET NEO Camshaft duration 236°in, 232°ex lift: 8.4mm in, 8.7mm ex

So Nissan would have either have had to machine a special cam to accept the black CAS, or just take the upcoming Neo cam - when they were building the very late S2's.

    • I've owned a few scooters over the years, a Vespa PX oil burner was my first scooter, followed by a few others, including a little 50cc BeeWee that I used as a barracks bike, and I've had a blast on all of them, they really are the cheapest for of city/suburb transport around The only issue with scooters in Australia is lots of people look down on them due to their size,  maybe they need a big bike to make up for something else where they are lacking, unlike Europe and Asia where every man an their dog owns one, and now that filtering is legal in NSW, local traffic is never a issue Not to say I haven't owned my share of big cc bikes over the years, but they were for more blasting through the hills or Hwy riding where it needed to sit on Hwy speeds Safety wise, I ride like everyone is always trying to kill me, everyone is running a red, or running stop/give way signs, or generally asleep at the wheel, which most people are duringtheir commute, I also ride really safe, and give myself, and everyone else enough room in case I need to pull some hasty evasive actions, I've done a few rider training days over the years, which has come in handy on more than a few occasions  As for mods, there's nothing really, and yes your right about aftermarket exhaust, all you get is loud and obnoxious noises from them, like every 250-300 cc you hear with a aftermarket muffler, in saying this I did put a rear muffler from a 125 Aprilla on one of my old 125 scooters, it was horrendous and no amount of full face helmet and ear plugs would dampen that noise As for coming from the Harley, and what a overpriced POS that was, I no longer do big rides as my poor old busted joints ache after about 1/2 an hour of riding, long cruises are so much more enjoyable now in a car, so a big bike would be pointless
