Full weight, manual supras have gone 8.9 at 170mph in the states........that's impressive.

while you might think 350rwkw in a manual street car is very driveable, i can tell you

while it feels fast, the 12 sec ls1 will still be door handle to door handle with you on the street,

and the auto will be 300m down the rd, before you have stopped spinning, i see this every weekend.

My mates have nearly all taken the manuals out of there cars for autos now, as they got sick of

getting waxed by nearly stock auto vl turbos, with baby converters and coolers.

I am running a stock converter at the moment 4 dr, i have a 3500rpm one here, but it is to hard to

tune the car on the dyno as it is, with all the line pressure behind it. Once fully tuned i will fit it.

I will probally put a KEAS 3 speed in it with a transbrake next though, if this trans gives me anymore probs.

For your combo, i would probally put a 2800rpm behind it, i had one before. It seems to be the biggest you

can go before it affects general driveability, and it still locks up on the highway ok, i drove to Melbourne

and back with mine, it wasn't bad., Good street converter.

i didnt say mates but ive most prob know them longer then most, if u know how to drive a manual decently u can be fast! 11 sec commo n a mates 350rwkw supra raced he got dealt till he hooked up then drove bye BUT yeh he couldnt gte hook uptill 3rd as he even says himself cant drive it very well!!

i just prefer manual over auto but im mor ein2 drift track work not straightline!

we kinda off topic n i started it but yeh soz back to topic!!

well, you can't feather the throttle, because boost comes on like a sledgehammer. It all comes down to havin a drag radial at that level IMHO.

Autos are easier, because the gears are spread longer(theres only 3)

it';s easier as it softens the blow on the boost transition, and you can play with the throttle better.

This is for 4 and 6cyl cars, 350rkwkw turbo ls1's are apparently easy to drive.

By the way, R31's, don't handle:), and i raced my last car around mallala,

that is a very expensive exercise, over that , and drifting is like one big wanker magnet, i like my car with no defect:)

most guys on here drive manuals, and are very intimidated by the possibility of been beaten by an auto.

its very simple really.. the next street meet out at AIR i will be there with my wifes car, and will be more then happy to see how many manual gtst will do a 11 sec quarter...

I say if you wanna race in a straight line buy a commo or a falcon....

But like i said i DO appreaciate the stomping V8's with a massive charger out the bonnet, I think they are all good!

NO NO NO... if you really want you can make anything go fast, but as you know you cant bat a GTR!

v8's are old meat head stuff in my opinion, they are heavy, chew stupid amounts of fuel and are in shit cars!!

^^^^^ What he said......and like i said, drag racing is for people that can't handle a car for more than 12sec and have to go in a straight line.

Think all these drag and grip racers hate drift so much......is because drift is taking over and track owners make HEAPS more money off of drifters ATM because of crowd numbers.

I have mates that grip race and drift......I like all forms of racing, but lets face it i like to have a clutch and a mannual than drive a sporto!

P.s. I've had my fare share of auto's too and damn they are boring, it's like bieng a taxi driver!

After reading i have to stick up for the R34 auto box at first i hated it, but now i am really enjoying driving with it.

It isnt that bad at all i can still semi manually select gears when you want to corner and You can be lazy when you CBF'd changing gears . infact in the hills it is much better than any other Auto i have driven. Steering wheel controlled gear changes are nice and easy you dont have to take your hands off the wheel.

I think the only real problem with auto's is they dont help when it comes to slowing down much at all you rely on brakes too much especially in the hills. Plus when it comes to skylines you are limitedin options for after market computers you cant use a PFC (Spewing).

As for straight line i have 200rwkw and it hooks up like a dream so no complaints about auto from me.

It is easy, out of all forms of motorsport, drift attracts the most tryhard

wankers and posers. It isn't taking anything away from drag racing or circuit work, it attracts a complety different type of person usually. I don't doubt you

need a high skill level to do it. I just can't wait till owning a modified car

isn't "trendy" anymore:), it like a fashion accesories these days, and drifting makes it worse, that's why i dislike it.

Secondly, you can talk about racing all you like, i did track days in my last car at mallala, it would cost around $300-400 for a day, i also raced it at collingrove

hillclimb, been there done that. Enjoyable but way to expensive, i am sure

drift would be worse, especially if you stack it

thirdly, you can't compare some taxi rep auto car to a 600+hp auto turbo

car, complety different ends of the scales. My car pins you in the seat like

a jet taking off, absolutely awesome feeling.

To me HP has and always will rule

I agree there are alot of try hard wankers out there........IN ALL FORMS OF MOTORSPORT and it is clear to see you are a one eyed man and hey each to thier own, i can accept that, you like drag(take it how you want)

BUT drift is the in thing at the moment, and sorry to say it will be around in Adelaide for a long time to come, there will always be more people attracted to drift than drag.....simply because there is more excitement in it for a spectator than drags........whoa a car just ran 8sec.......OMG so did that car!!!! funny enough then next one will, Like i said i DO appreaciate all forms of motorsport.

And as for owning a modified car bieng "trendy"! I AGREE i'm sick of seeing all these riced up pieces of crap, that people are too worried about being seen in a (what people think to be a) HOT CAR! I'm sorry but as much as you would like to believe 'drift' has a lot to do with that.......your wrong, It's this stupid americanized country we live in, and that crap on TV they call '2 fast 2 furious' thats where all this riced up wanna be hard cores come from.........what ever happend to the days of seeing killa rotors and dattos and toyotas and stuff like that, now they were the bomb!!!!

If the manuals quicker, well, the auto's stock and or hasn't been setup to suit its application.

Do remember we are not talking about a piddly <200rwkw or even worse a 100rwkw family wagon.

This thread is a 250rwkw thread. 250rwkw auto with a little stall convertor WILL own a 250rwkw 5speed manual.

Hell chances are even a 220rwkw auto will own the 250rwkw 5speed manual.

I have seriously considered an auto, I could imagine how well the rb30 would launch as I can drop it in second bring rev's up to 2500rpm, slip the clutch off the line a little to prevent wheel spin, it accelerates quicker and spools the turbo up harder and earlier than using first gear and making 2 changes.

For the cost of a decent rb25 box and clutch I can drop a tweaked auto in the car. Full manual (ecu issue) doesn't bother me BUT fuel consumption does.

I like my fuel consumption as my car is a daily driver, its one big influencing factor. ;)

Maybe Guy can sway me back to the auto option? :D

The auto's are fine for street cornering.

I've always been a slow in fast out, I consider it the safe way to drive briskly in the hills.

Start pushing hard in to corners in the hills and its a matter of WHEN you will come unstuck, not a matter of IF. :wave:

If one was a regular track or hill climb user then obviously... A manual.

I love circuit work, and the hillclimb is awesome., I might go to collingrove in this thing, I actually will probally go to a super sprint when i fit the 32 four spots., and go muck around with Shaun and the boys.

Of course you are going to support drift anyway deluxe, you sell all you stuff to the peeps:) ha,ha

Mate is building a RA40 Celica to run Improved Production with Shaun, But he is building a atmo 18RG, but seriously considering giving the car to Shaun to just go the 3S conversion! would be good to see a Skyline out in the field, as i can't recal seeing one at all!

And on the Darren thing......i was thinking the same thing, How many are there?????

come for a spin in mine and see what you think.

im at 275kws at the moment with a PFC, but by the end of the week i should be over 300kws.

make up your own mind. your a respected voice on here it would be nice to have your thoughts on

a strong r33 auto.

It's not drift look to me, it's jap circuit battle, time attack styles

to me,Like the Garage Sorearse(saurus):ban: GTR and GTR's use those style of rims and vented bonnets

for drags aswell, but yeah, everyone is going to think it's a drifter now......:D

    • I know mentally you're set on the ATS clutch but honestly I'm a big fan of the Nismo Super Coppermix Twin. It's much cheaper and in some ways I think it's a better design for a street/circuit car.
    • Just checked in first post and you should be able to bring it home November this year, right? I'm amazed you made it through four years of this. As hard as it feels now the rest will go by in a breeze in hindsight, I'm sure.
    • Realized I haven't been back here in a while. Still here, still alive, still waiting for the car.  I went back again the only time last year from Oct-Nov for R's Meeting and drove it around some more, including a few laps on Fuji Speedway(in the wet, sadly). The car still feels good, but have a couple small things to address. I've been getting more parts but have slowed down still, and most of the bigger purchases are now out of the way. I find myself getting impatient more and more when it comes to getting started on this project; it's quite hard for me not being able to really dive in and start making this car my own because it's halfway across the world. At times it doesn't even really feel like I own one of these. Haven't really been motivated or had the desire to document the last trip on here or social media for, well, reasons... but here's some pics...it's also still alive and well as you can see: I've narrowed down to the last large part purchases(anything over $2k) before the engine build to be: 1) Ohlins Road & Tracks 2) ATS Twin Carbon clutch 3) Endless BBK with some custom options and 4) Kansai Service carbon driveshaft I don't think the budget exists for all of these this year, but I'll try for one or two items I think. Though, every time I look at my spreadsheet I sigh, shake my head, and get depressed just that little bit more.  'til later.
    • It's a stunning location!  I've been to NZ twice but haven't made it to the North Island yet.  Definitely on the cards but the South Island is hard to tear yourself away from too... Looking forward to see what you can wring out of it once you can get it to hold together!  Be awesome to get a low 11 or even sneaking into the high 10's pass out of it.  That's a bloody quick car that most people will never experience in their life.  Enjoy!
    • Nominally yes but I’m not really at that stage yet. Outsourcing to Japan is also a relatively good deal at the moment because their currency has devalued much more against the USD.  You would assume this but a lot has changed from the pandemic. Mechanics are in short supply and demand for fixing old cars has gone up from the cost of new cars. 250-300 USD/hr is not an unusual shop labor rate in California and you’re paying that regardless of whether the guy is competent or not. Coworkers have been quoted 3000 USD for a water pump and thermostat at a dealer on an N54. Oil changes went from ~75 USD to 150 on fairly normal cars like Civics. The cost of the oil and filter hasn’t even kept up with inflation.
