My GTR is ticking really loud, I think its the lifters but I don't know now. Its ok with cold starts but after a few minutes of driving and when the engine gets a bit warmer the ticking starts. When I start the car in the afternoon (to drive hoime from work) the ticking is gone and the engine sounds sweet again.

Whats going on?, something to do with the cold?

Also my Power FC Hand controller, knock sensor monitor reports a maximum level of 80?! (usually lower, around 20), seen as though the graph only goes upto 100 I can't see this being a good thing.

What should I do?, is my engine 'knocking' badly?

Can you tell where the ticking is coming from?

sounds like its quite close to the top of the engine, but I only ever notice it while driving in the morning and haven't had the bonnet open to listen. It quiet when idling though.

oh....shit....is a compression test worth getting then?

My power is all good and the boost pekas and holds quite nicely.

What signs are there from in the car that theres something wrong with pressure?

sorry to alarm you.....the ticking is a timebomb......it was a joke.

Hey dude, I had similar ticking noises comming from the top end of the engine awhile back.

Turned out to be the water pump broken as it was moving up and down making a knocking sound. Also one of the AC tensior bearings was ticking/sqeuaking (sp?).

watch that knock level too, i had a tune from the same tuner and now i have a 2 peice piston thanks to the detonation, resulting in a cracked ringland. i was even refused to see the air fuel ratio graph from the dyno printout, which means he must have been real confident it was abit lean for safety. mates safc tuned soarer at same shop had afr's over 12.5:1 on 18psi and plenty of other tuners have said that is abit risky on a daily driver.

luckily i got out of that joint before they had a chance to wreck my new engine :(

good luck

The knock level only seems to be that high on startup. I reset it to zero after a few minutes of driving and it stays down in the twenty's then...

I just hope nothing goes wrong this Monday night. I do give it a bit of stick every now and then while driving to test the boost and feel for engine skip-beats (possibly timing belt), which I get a few of.
