Just started to drive this r32 gts4 and thought it was using way too much petrol so i pulled the afm off to check and clean it. Found it was very dirty and there was alot of oil inside the air filter and it looks like it has kind of pooled in the coregated sections of the pipe and set like jelly. I know it hasnt been driven for a long time but have no idea how long its been since the filter and afm have been cleaned. Im wondering how much oil blow back is acceptable or weather my oil seals are completely shagged and i need a new turbo. Any comments apreciated.

How likely is it that its sucking up oil from the rocker cover under wot and then getting slamed back into the afm and filter when the throtle closes?

Will clean and check again anyway.

Cheers.

It is very likely, and in my case it was the exact problem.I used to get tons of oil in the intake pipe and the afm and filter were always covered in oiley residue so i installed a catch tank and have never had the same problem, the intake pipe, afm and filter are always 100% clean now!

the catch can is a bandaid fix to the actual problem. if you require a catch can then something is wrong and not operating correctly

Everything is operating fine!nothing is wrong, the car dosent smoke, theres usualy shit all oil in the catch tank (just some watery condensation) and runs perfectly etc etc, the oil being sucked into the intake is from the breather being directly feed into the intake pipe, pretty simple really!

If your turbo seals were toast wouldnt the car smoke very badly??
