Lucky, very lucky - glad it was only the car that was hurt!

I know the tyres may have been a contributing factor - BUT PLEASE NOBODY USE CRUISE CONTROL WHEN IT’S WET/RAINING!

It's not a well known fact but many accidents happen with cruise control on in the rain, especially if the wheels aquaplane for even a second, the cruise can kick in and will just break traction, and put you and your passengers in a whole word of hurt. This info should be printed in cars that have cruise control – but it’s not. This needs to be general knowledge for anyone who drives a car – so tell those you know – TURN OFF THE CRUISE CONTROL IN THE RAIN OR WHEN IT’S WET!

Thanks for the well wishes everyone.

Im still a little ho hum about the falkens but there is very little info for SUV tyres. The load rating on STD tyres is the issue, im out of my knowledge base with SUV and 4WD tyres, Im still looking and doing my research.

Thanks

That's true. I have been in a near accident in the rain with cruise control on. I wasn't driving.

Oz: Glad to hear that you and your family are A-OK! That's what is most important in my opinion - cars can be fixed or re-purchased, life cannot!

Anyways, best of luck with the new ride, let us know how it goes!

good to hear u are ok, and good tyres are definetly worth the money for the rain, with crap tyres if anything goes wrong u have no chance.

Xinhua thats bad to hear too, what exactly was the damage? and was the damage from the kangaroo or the trees?

SiksII, every panel was damaged by the 20cm x 20 cm wood pools I hit, and the fence dragged accross the roof, bonnet and boot, to ensure everything was damaged.

I found the best way to get out of cruise control is to brake and then turn it off. If you turn it off it's like what ever throttle the cruise was at suddenly goes to 0%.

Glad you're ok though.

PS. What size are the stock terri rims? 5x114.3? Want to part with them?

IVe heard of similar stories with cruise control related crashes in the rain.

I did hear the technical reason why the car looses traction but I cant remember at the moment.

I read a similar story and the police attending the accident (it was a lady and she lived) blamed the cruise control and not neg driving or speeding.

When it is released I think a similar situation to what happens with compression locks as engine sometimes down shift. I think thats it.

Anyone know?

Glad to hear you and your family are ok mate.
