Hello

Just came to introduce myself and ask a few questions...

Please excuse any gnorance, it mainly comes from the fact I am American(no joke it's true), but also because as much as I love the GTR I know very little about it or Australia for that matter.

I own a 2006 STI and live in New Jersey, USA. I am looking to go to college/a university abroad. I am leaning towards Australia or Canada at this point. Since most of you live there, intrinsically you would know more than I do, I was wondering if any one could reccomend good schools? What would be a Skyline friendly region?

As far as the Skyline goes(R34 GTR preferably, but an R32 GTR will do the job as well), I assume the process can all be done by buying the car from a well known importer or from a member here/owner? I assume I would also have to sell the STI and not bring it into Australia because it is not worth bringing it along for the thousands and thousands of miles + it probably is not legal?

It would also be nice not worrying that I could be nuked at any time..heh

Thanks

-Jeremy

Hey mate, stuff canada, you can drive there :( come to aussieland. Victorian and NSW probably have the best schools. I'm not from NSW but the University of Sydney is very good, in Vic we have Melbourne Uni and Monash Uni both considered world class (cept the food establishments). You will have to decide which best suites you based on what each university specialises in.

As far as skyline friendly, Aussie cops are probably about as tough in imports here as there but people still mod the poo out of their cars :D. You will see plenty of Skylines in any state in Australia but you'll definately see a GTR or two at Monash ;) ;). Drop the crappy scubby for as much money as you can :D, come over here and get yourself a nice R32/33 GTR for around 15,000 - 30,000 American :(. With minimal mods you are looking at around 220awkw (lots of hp) with turbos cams and computer upwards of 300awkw (even more hp).

No point bringing your STI here, since you would have to convert it to RHD. No matter where you decide to go, you will easily be able to find a skyline, you can pick one up from a car yard, buy privately or import one from japan. R34's are still damn expensive, about US$45 000 for a GTR.

I would recomend Queensland as well but depends on what climate you like as well as Qld gets bloody hot but then again its mid Autum and I can still wear shorts, and as said, depends on what you study as to which ones you apply USQ, Monash, Bond (any others?) some have campusus from Gold Coast to Sunshine Coast.

http://www.australian-universities.com/rankings/

I recommend Victoria, which has Melb Uni and Monash Uni.

The choice of university should depend on that your course is.

For example, Monash University (Clayton Campus) is ranked number 1 in Australia for engineering and 18th in the world (for engineering).

There was a website with this detail but i have lost it.

Google should pick it up

What course are you looking at doing? That's what i'd be working out first.

Wherever you end up going, sell the STI, bring the money over here and buy a GTR. University will be cheaper in australia too, prob about US$15000 a year max, so think of the money you'll be saving in course fees too!

it depends on your course really

Having studied in Melbourne and Brisbane, i'd easily recommend Monash university if in melbourne or the University of Queensland (UQ)if in brisbane. they are by far the best universities in each state

I have heaps of canadians, americans, and othe internationls in my course at UQ (studying graduate medicine) and they love it. The reasons i recommend brisbane is:

- east coast of australia where there are more people and cheap flights to sydney/melbourne

- 45mins to gold coast - great place to see for a tourist

- 45mins to sunshine coast - the best beaches that i have seen in australia (just better than those over in perth)

- awesome weather, particularly in our winter. its hot but without much rain

- relaxed lifestyle, which is good when you are studying

And there are a heap of japanese imports in brisbane - skylines, wrx's, etc.

cheers,

Warren

haha

no don't lie.. melbourne is great

it depends on the lifestyle you lead and the lifestyle you want for your time overseas...

Melbourne is great if you like places to eat, drink, go out

There's always something to do and a new place to go

Brisbane is like a big country town in some ways

Melbourne is great if you like places to eat, drink, go out

There's always something to do and a new place to go

but why do you want to go out when it's negative 10 degrees, most people are just drinking or eating to get over the fact they work from 8-6 because they have nothing else to do as it's shithouse outside.. and most people are too far up their ass to bother talking to anyhow ? :)

Geeeeeezuz Keerrrrrrist.

Would you listen to you all? You've scared the poor guy off with all your 'MY states better than your state so nyaaah!' crap. It happens without fail on any Aussie forum. F*ck! Ok, rant over.

js3324: Mate, as stated above, just reseach the state Universities in New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland and see which one specializes in what you're studying. There are a heap of other good Uni's in AU, but as was also stated above, the east coast is much more convenient in all aspects exept beatiful women, the best weather and lifestyle... you'd have to come to Perth, Western Australia for that... :(:O:(
