Freeman
Hey my first service is due for my R33 and I was just wondering how much I'm looking at for a normal 5000k service? I want to use the best of everything, e.g oil, so should I tell the mechanic what oil use or will he put shit stuff in it? Who in Newcastle should I go to? Cheers everybody Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/114557-servicing-your-skyline/ Share on other sites
siddr20
Yup tell him which oil to use.. When i did my last service, it cost me 110bucks in total.. Hope that gives some sort of idea, but then again, different mechanic's might change/serivce different things n charge different rates.. someonestolecc
Depends on your mechanic. If he knows what he's doin he'll use good oil from the company he has a deal with. Sometimes I've had to bring my own choice of oil to the mechanics.. xRHETTx
Man $110 will just get an oil and oil filter change. I'd highly recommend learning to do this yourself, because over the life of your line you will save a fortune. It'll cost you $50 instead of $110, and you will prob end up doing it more often (every 5000km hopefully) Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/114557-servicing-your-skyline/#findComment-2110588 Share on other sites
scheris
Do you guys run crappy oil through first then put the good oil in after? The bf reckons this is the best way to do it. Is this necessary or just a way to give him more time to scratch his arse? :D Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/114557-servicing-your-skyline/#findComment-2110645 Share on other sites
R33S2
hahahahahahaha! just scratchin his arse I reakon I wouldnt put crappy oil in my engine, but if its brand new oil and the same type (synthetic and non syn dont mix) a flush never hurts if you can afford it. I knew nothing about cars until i bought the R33 Downloaded the instructions to do the oil change and haven't looked back. Best thing about doing it yourself is that you KNOW what actually goes in the engine. Give it a go, it aint hard. The next step i learned after that was the sparkies. Again not too hard. Both i was a bit aprehensive about because i had never done it before. Now i look back and think I'm a bit stupid for having to download the instruction !! haha But, you gotta start somewhere. Now I'm attempting to put my own intercooler in! ....it's a natural progression Good luck! smurf80
Yep do it yourself mate save a fortune over the time you have it. I use mobil 1 fully synthetic and have never had any dramas. Also make sure you replace the oil filter when you change the oil. DRAGTS
hey as far as who is good in newcastle, i'd only be using 2 places. Hunter Thomas Automotive @ georgtown or Newcastle performance centre @ thornton, have used both and are both excelent.... Bliksem
all you guys doin it yourselves with the 33's...how much oil does it take? 4.7l or something? Yes. around 4.7L Freeman: I would never pay a mechanic to do it. The job takes 15 mins and is not hard at all. Take that $110 go to repco you get some oil and a filter, then buy some axel stands and a trolley jack this would be $110 better spent than going to the mechanic. In the future you'll only be spending $50 each time.
