Tahs got done

So...back to "whats under the bonnet?"

NNNNOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

so they were without Wendel's secret smelling salts this week eh.

Under the bonnet......well Just as Mr Nissan intended but with forgies and bolt ons.

I forget what this thread was about - Paulie maybe?

I dunno.

I was thinking much the same thing for the past 4 pages

Its like someone blocked up the drag section and its oozing over the rim into Forced

Paul/Stace - is this being tuned on the Juice or Cats piss?

If its juice, im with SK... well into the 500's

I'l be interested to hear if you measure any difference in temps (engine bay or inlet) as a result of the ceramic coatings. A fellow mech eng (albeit with 10yrs more experience) used thermal imaging equipment on his coated dump and found that it did absolutely nothing.

great thanks mate for the heads up, I'll be removing it 1st thing in the morning with the sand blaster.

Thanks, thats extremely informative. After the first few pages I had assumed you were basing your comments towards the stuff on previous testing, if not then people should know how effective it really is.

Well it didn't make much more power than we already had...i suspect the cams and capacity were a perfect match for the 2530's...to get full power from thr RS's i think a larger capacity bottom end and higher lift/duration cams will be required. The turbos can flow more air...but is the engine set-up capable of ingesting it?....i think not.

To put it in perspective these turbos are rated the same as a T51R KAI and it would be unwise to bolt this turbo onto a STD capacity engine and 260deg 9.15mm lift cams and expect top results.

Ahh well...now for the 400m dyno tomm. for some further testing and results.

Your test needs to be a before and after example to have any credibility.

Why don't you start a thread about this topic as people may be interested in seeing your theories matched against multimillion dollar race teams research from Top Fuel dragsters to V8 supercars.

the purpose of the coating is meant to keep the heat in, not to keep the dump cool, the hotter the gas the faster it moves, so in that pic the coating is working fine.

any figures paul?

silver gts-s you are contradicting yourself. The image shows coated and uncoated sections of the same pipe, if the heat is reaching the external surface of the pipe then the coating has already failed.

Didnt mean to offend the believers, was just looking for some evidence of it working.. i've forked out over a grand on the stuff in the past as well.

Back on topic, the workmanship on this car is incredible.

i dont think its contradicting..

facts

-the purpose of the coating is meant to keep the heat in

-the hotter the gas the faster it moves

-heat is wasted power, nothing can be 100% efficient

-the more you control the heat the higher the efficiency..

basic thermodynamics

how well it works (which i dont have proof) and how you take it, whether an advantage or disadvantage is the difference.

and still waiting on results.

I know how its 'supposed' to work, the theory is extremely simple...as for thermodynamics, anyone with a basic understanding should be able to interpret the information in the image.

You are contradicting yourself by saying 'its meant to keep heat in' and 'its not meant to keep the dump cool' in the same sentence.

But this is way of topic. It certainly looks good!

This is the internet...a quick "google" of performance ceramic coatings will give you hundreds of examples of where this product has been tested and proven. Like i said before, your example does not mean or prove anything if no before/after comparison is done (this is how i do my testing). Like Silv.is trying to explain and i have also stated earlier in this thread, the coating is done on the turbine side to aid gas flow....not too keep things cool around it, thats the job of heat shields etc.

Thanks for the acknowledgement of our work...its good to see the time, effort and dollars paying off

silv you asked for results. We have made more than before......but not any more than 450. So I think most people, including us and Jim were all surprised at the small gain.

Unfortunately we are in Port Stephens and the car is in Sydney, so we don't have any graphs to post yet.

Lets just see what it does 2moro.......STACE

    • Yep, that was one of the things we learned fast in the past with our MX5. When you drive with the top down, you are effectively standing out in the sun, 100% of the time, and not getting in any shade (because roads aren't shaded generally!). Just like standing out in the middle of a field on a sunny 27C day is a bit of a bad plan, so is sitting in a MX5 without sun protection.
    • I also just ordered some Frankenstein bolts and side mounts to fit a hard top Just in case I do find one, basically so it doesn't need to be fixed to the car with only the front latch.......and then gaffa tape to keep it in place for the RTN journey from wherever I get it
    • If your temps are fine now, you probably won't have any issues with where your vents are as they don't look right up at the windscreens high pressure area, so any differences when giving it the beans for extended happy laps would be minimal, but, they should vent heaps when stuck in traffic  Much like how that reverse cowl on my SS let "visible" heat out when stationary, but, because it was basically at the windscreen my coolant temps on the Hwy actually raised because air was being fed into it at speed (110kph), to only come back down to around 90° when I got off the Hwy And your 100% correct about the NC currently not needing vents, but, if I was to add a turbo, and a oil cooler and intercooler in front of the condenserand radiator, and then take it to the track???? It is apparently a recommend requirement if I don't want to worry about coolant or oil temp issues, but, any of the above are possible scenarios, over time As it sits now, with the triple pass radiator and stock air conditioning system, I have absolutely no issues with either temps or air conditioning efficiency, I've been basically daily driving thie car for the last month, both on the Hwy, and peak hour, bumper to bumper traffic, but, that's pretty much expected from basically a standard engine  Talking about no issues daily driving, it was 39° the other day and I was sitting in bumper to bumper traffic on the M5 and then M7, with the top down, and with the air conditioning blowing nice cold air on my feet, balls, and face, well, there was one issue, my head and arms got pretty sun burnt Note to self: leave a hat and sunscreen in the car for such days 🤣
    • I would agree, unless you need something specific to the HV motor/battery side repaired or investigated, any mechanic will be able to perform normal services, but if you prefer, maybe look for a mechanic who regularly services/repairs Nissans, the VQ engines are pretty common in the Nissan lineup.  Sorry, I can't make any suggestions, I don't live in Vic.
    • Some of them keep working fine. 9 out of 10 of them end up causing an absolute misery bleeding the system and get thrown on the workshop floor in a tantrum and never thought about again because they were never really needed and just added crap to the car that we could have done without. Same-same with HICAS, A-LSD, and various other stupidities that over eager 10x engineers thought we had to have.
