Steering Wheel

Long story short, Im looking at removing the R33 steering wheel i have and installing a momo racing wheel, is it legal to do so? I thought I red somewhere that it is illegal because of the airbag?

if the cops want to be real b*****ds if there is metal showing on the wheel they will tell you to cover it because it is "unsafe" to you the driver..not sure about legality of it altogether..my original 32 wheel doesnt even have an airbag =p

If your factory wheel has an airbag, then you can only replace it with a similar spec OEM airbag wheel or an ADR approved airbag wheel.

You cant remove the stock wheel if it has a airbag in it. You can replace it with another one with an airbag if it complies with the specs etc. Ive heard it it pretty pricy. You could always do a dodgy and remove the airbag and just take out the airbag light on ur dash. but i would sugest this

Also it has to be a certain size...i think 110mm or larger in diametre. If its too small the cops will ping you for it too.

i thought min size was 320mm diameter. 110mm is a pretty tiny wheel

According the Vehicle Standards document from VicRoads I gathered 2 requirements:

1. Must have sufficient padding.

2. Must not be reflective (ie. chrome) as it could impair your vision while driving.

There probably is more if you read into it more.

Great attitude.. airbags are there for a reason.. take care..

If you get defected for it - you'll have to put a standard one back on - all SII have Airbags as standard..

100mm is the ride height limit, not 110mm.
