hey guys,

my parents holden statesman has had a ecu diagnostic and it shows that there is either a malnunction or problem with the oil pressure switch. out of curiosity, does anyone know how to fix or find out if its faulty or what. also, does it cause any harm to the car (it normal except for the light warning on the dash cluste). i though id try asking here cause i would assume that at least someone on this forum has owned a holden before or at least know where the switch is located or what it does etc etc.

The main problem is that it will mask a true oil pressure problem ie no oil pressure.

Just replace the damn thing. They aren't really that expensive (and a lot cheaper than rebuilding an engine that has spun a bearing).

If it's a V6, they use the oil switch as a signal to the ecu for the time out on the fuel pump etc.

They have a double switch in that one section works the dash warning light and the other section does the ecu switching.

The low oil pressure dash warning is total crap, cuts in at 4psi from memory, certainly low enough to root the bearings.

I'd say it's the ecu section as they will still run but you'll get that error code in the ecu.

New switch is about $20 from Holden, but go easy when screwing it in as the aluminium body has super thin wall thickness and you can crack the housing very easily.

New GM housings have extra metal thickness around that thread for the oil switch.

i dont know anything bout ls1's - except its big, heavy and torquey. anyone happen to know where it is located, the swtich that is?

i'd assume from all the cars ive dealt with (nissans and v6 commodores) that they are usually right near or next to the oil filter assembly and have a 2 pin plug coming out of the sender.

not sure if they are the same on the gen 3's but i'd think so...

you haven't specified what model stato, if its the older 5L model, because of they way they sit, they can get water and oil running into the connection (even though they have a rubber insulator) and cause bad connection and carode etc.

worth a look before you jump the gun and replace it altogether.
