Hey all just wondering if people can post up which speaker brands and models are direct replacements for the front speakers on a R33. Not interested in stuffing around and want to purchase a nice direct fit front speaker which will run nicely off my head set for the time being. Thanks im sure other people out there would be interested also.

I have sent emails to both of you. Just case anyone else wants to know what we're talking about; I've posted the images below. Basically what we were discussing was that while 6" speakers are good drop in option, it is not too much further effort to install 6.5" speakers, an option that presents a much larger selection so far as the aftermarket speaker world is concerned. :)

I hope that helps you out.

I guess we should issue the warning that if you make your own speaker pods, check your clearances, as a lot of speaker magnets will hit the window if not spaced properly.

I bought Clarion 6.5" splits (about $200rrp), and they almost fitted perfectly. I had to bodge a little bit of it to make it sit inside the original speaker pods. If 7" speakers existed, they would have sat perfectly, but the pod was just too large for the 6.5's to go directly in.

I think it's been asked many times before, but there doesn't seem to be one guaranteed fit for stock pods. The originals were supposedly 6x4" or something crazy like that.

for a R32 they are 4x6. the rest are nissan 6.75".

excuse the dumbness when it comes to car audio but... i desperately need new front 6" speakers... where does the 'new' baffle need to go and where can it be purchased from? Also whats the deal with sound deadening?

Thanks guys,

Mark.

mark see the above images. if you just want to replace yours and aren't that fussed on installation then you can reuse the stock one. otherwise its a custom job. the baffles are made as needed.

(I should make a bunch of these things up seeing how I'm always asked for them..)

The blue was sound-deadening... it's just pyramid-shaped foam to disperse sound waves. (gets rid of echo)

The black stuff is sound deadening... again, it's best for high-end sort of stuff where you have the speakers and system to make the most of it.

The baffles everyone refers to, I beleive are the home-made pods that the speakers sit into.

With a little time and judgement, as Chris says, you can whack 6.5" speakers straight into the stock pod where your old speakers were.

If you want to be sure, take the pod out, and take it into the store that you are buying speakers from, and ask if you can sit a couple in the pod.

Chris: 6.75" eh?? That's what I was thinking with my estimate of 7". I know I can be pedantic sometimes, but the 6.5" look strange mounted in there!

Why muck around with 6.5's when you can, and i say this seriously, and you CAN with a lot of Modification to car, panels, doors, dash "simply" wack a set of these babies in.

With an 8" driver and compression horn, nothing comes close.

Hey ParaDizzle,

In all seriousness, if you want some really good speakers without a hefty price tag check out some VDO MPS1700. You WILL be surprised just how awesome these speakers are.

I can tell you from putting them in a few cars lately that they are absolutely awesome.

Currently I dont have a picture on file to post,

But they are

diam - 6.5"

watt rms - 90

sens - 91 db

Mounting depth - just right for an r33

Alot of dealers are just getting them in as they are a new product.

I would highly recommend a listen to these.

Cheers

Thanks for the reply,

whats the price tag on a pair of these?

also with them being 6.5" will they be a direct fit? or will it need some modification?

Cheers,

Mark.

They're 6.75", like some Pioneer models are. I think you'd have a far better chance of being able to screw them into the plastic pod where the originals were.

Mine were 6.5", and the screw-holes in the speaker were *slightly* too close to the inside hole of the pod. I made up a little bracket adapter and made some new holes in the pod. (that's what I meant about bodging it a bit).

If you're budget-constrained, and just want a *better* speaker than stock, check out the Pioneer ones. TS-A1780R is one model. It's 4-way, so you don't have to worry about mounting a tweeter anywhere. (although that is the preferred option, because the door-speaker mounting gives poor staging)

    • My stuff is all with Shannon's, granted, I don't really have imports I'm driving on the road, however, I've had multiple cars at the same time with them. Presently we have the Landcruiser on laid up cover, Sarah's Kluger on full cover, and the house insured. About 18 months ago Sarah wrote her Subaru Liberty GTB off, insured with Shannon's, and the payout, and buy back of the wreck was super quick. In 2020 we had the VF Commodore totalled in a major hailstorm. Storm was on the Saturday, I called on the Sunday and lodged it, vehicle was towed on Tuesday night, assessment team called on Wednesday to say it was a total loss and get payout details, money was in the bank on Thursday morning. Have had a few other claims both at fault, and not at fault, over the years, and never had an issue with them.   Funnily enough, they're also the cheapest insurer I find for things like Sarah's Kluger.   I will say I'm less impressed dealing with them lately around "the experience", as a lot of their staff that you deal with aren't car enthusiasts. Shannon's has a much more main stream feel ever since they decided to become "big corporate", laid a heap of staff off, and then hired a bunch of non enthusiasts. At the same time they've been making a push to be less "call us and we'll personally have someone who cares help" to "hey, this computer can do stuff for you" and are trying to get more square pegs to fit round holes. (That's just the vibe I get from them). Again, have had no issues with claims with them, but get a bit of a "less personal" feel from them.
    • A thing I wasn’t happy with with enthusiast was during the initial phone call they told me they’d insure it for 130k but needed photos.   I then sent them photos and they told me $80k as there were other cars either similar modifications available for around that price, I told them to send me the links to said cars so that I can buy them. i then sent the modification list with prices of the parts (no labor) and the price then came to 115k, which is still shy of the 130 that was agreed in the initial phone call
    • Ask me a bit later this week before payday
    • I agree that delayed payment probably isn't the most suitable solution. It seems a solid complete transaction would be best. As I wouldn't be using this sale as a line of credit that would typically earn interest, we can probably arrange a much cleaner single transaction deal. I can do $92.52 today. Would you prefer EFT, or Cash on Pickup?  😛
    • Oh man what a deal.... Funny enough (well not really) I sold a car to some old dude (buying for his Daughter) on a Saturday, He asked if she could take the car now and pay me the money on Monday as the bank wasn't open. Needless to say I told them to come back with the cash or get f**ked! Luckily the money seemed to magically appear in his pocket a few minutes later, so it all ended well (for me).
