Hi Guys,

Having owned my R32 for nearly 18 months, it has been unreal, I have been offered an Rx7 for $7,000, maybe $8,000 with a 1,100 HD Clutch setup. I am decideding which way to go, stick with R32 or go for something different.

I am seriously contemplating this RX7 cause it would place me in a way better financial position. I know its a rotor and i know its not Nissan, if I do choose to go this path can anyone give me some tips what to look out for? I hear RWKW is easy to get but are they reliable?

as for rotarys they are reliable as long as you treat them good and you treat any car good they are good

you have to make sure the apex seals arnt gone in the rotor that is the biggest problem with rotorys

poeple thrash em and done use the right fuel low in water and not tuning em makes the seals go

they cost about 2 to 3 k to replace

i have been and driven an rx7 series 5 and i think they are awsom thats my nex t car id love to get

plus they hold their value coz you cant import them unless over 99 model

thats my 2 cents =)

:bahaha: someones passionate hehe

i actually think a Series5 looks more modern than an R32 but that's just me :P

m Shall I say anything here or keep my fingers away from the key board?

I have been a proud SER5 owner for the last 2 1/2 years. In that time I have fallen in love with them from the word go....

Not only do the hold there re-sale value better than any Skyline ( dont mean to be rude guys ) But they have more to offer with what you get.

As for not being reliable and expensive, I have never heard such S H I T in all my life.

Its like any car you own, If you thrash it , it will break!

I have found the worst people to bag rotors out are the ones that cant keep up with them. Shit, one of the buyers that was looking at my car was a skyline owner... As soon as he seen my car and went for a drive in it he was sold. I didnt even have to try and sell it. (bloody banks)

Yes my car is a 89 model but you park it next to a R32 and it looks like a late model car, I have even had people ask if it is a late 90's car....

You want to know anything about the ser 5 , drop me a PM.

If you live in SYD Im more than happy for you to come have a look and I might even take you for a drive...

Cheers,

Rob.

PS: To get my motor built cost's $3800, it will take 30psi of boost and make over 400 fly wheel HP... Cant see a RB20 doing that for the same moneys... Just a thought.

last for ever if you warm them up for 4-5 minutes every day

noisy

old

if you like to trash a car 24 hours a day

get the 32

if you let the car warm up 100%of the time and only flog it 40% of what you give to the r32 then get the rotary.

both engines r about a grand for a replacement

I think you are thinking about a series 6.

A series 5 looks a bit like a porsche..

The series 6 is the current shape, except it's called a series 8 now as there have been some updates :P

SLOW78U,

Did you include the cost of your previous motor, g'box & diff in that $3800 build price? ;):P

Actually considering how much Rob "enjoys" :D his cars it's a testament to the Series IV RX7 it's still going strong.

When are you going to give that thing a run over the 1/4 @ EC mate?

I agree with Rob. Treat the engine/car right & it'll be reliable. "Providing" it's healthy to start with!

This is a Skyline forum so I'm thinking the majority are going to suggest keeping your R32, I would :) But if you like the RX7 in question, don't mind the "BRAP BRAP BRAP" sound, the thing goes well & is in decent nick, why not go for it!? You'll be in a better financial postion too.

Cheers,

Matt

Both a great cars

I really enjoyed my series 5, its generally a bit cheaper to get more power out off, handles awesome, a lot of Australian mods out there ....

My brother is running 317hp at the wheels at 16 psi, thrashes it most of the time and has yet to lose a quick fang

The only downside I see is fuel consumption ... once these are even slighty worked they seem to use more fuel then a modified R33 .... (harder to fit a FMIC as well)

go some thing different !

dude your smokin crack, 40k gets a series 6, like in f&f

a guy at my work bought a series 5 convertible about a month ago for 15 and i think its the biggest ugliest piece o crap

Thanks for all your opinions, but if you read my post correctly I already own my R32 i have had it nearly 18 months, 12psi, chip, pod, 3" cat back and soon FMIC....well the bank owns it...hahaha....

I think i will get the RX7 thou, sorry guys, just till i save for a GTR!!

Hahaha, jet33 owns you bud hahaha...sorry...

You might seem to be better off, but think of the extra petrol, it'll cost you just as much, if not more then a v8. between that and the sound of a rotor, i don't think i could ever own one for very long. guy at work had a series 3 with a 13bturbo, run an 11.2, think he had it for 6 months at the most, went back into a 180.

Don't look back buddy,,,,Nothing wrong with a rotor,,,,Rotor's are way cool. I'm hoping to get my hands on a late model SP very soon. Just gotta hope the current owner likes the RX8 and trades his current missile in.

Neil.

Damn, I wish you lived in SYD Jet. I would have so much fun OWNING you ass on the street. ;)

Oh, btw. I get 420k's to a tank with only a power tune with my car... Once it is all done I am looking at over 500k's to a tank... Thursty on fuel hey? Pfffffffffft... It is obvious to me that you are a very narrow minded person.

    • The car revs up through the gears much better/faster now, and fuel consumption doesn't really seem to have be affected either on a Hwy cruise, which wasn't expected  The FAB9 intake manifold has been problematic sourcing though, I've contacted Plasmaman to ask about their intake, which you can get different runner lengths spec'd, and, their different options for throttle bodies  The only real physical drawback with the Plasmaman intake is how to connect it to my current OEM style airbox, as FAB9 make a OEM style back half of the airbox to suit the larger diameter throttle body, and all that is required is a 30°bend silicone pipe to mate the throttle body to the airbox Car also goes in for some exhaust work in a week or so to fit the biggest resonator they can fit clearance wise in the front pipe to help remove some of the drone, there isn't alot of realestate under there, a rough guesstimation is it will only be about 3-400mm long and maybe 90-100mm diameter, and with a 60mm exhaust that doesn't leave alot of space for the internal volume of the resonator to do its thing I'm thinking I may need to bin the "high flow" 100 cell cat for something a bit more substantial, yeah, and restrictive, like a 200-400 cell, to help, but, I have ample room for a really large bodied cat to replace the current one which has around a 4" diameter body I may look around in the recycling bins and see if I can find a massive newish cat that was "replaced" with some new full exhaust system that the local exhaust shop in Western Sydney is doing
    • Hahah look at that smile 😂 Just like those ones on IG where they compare the husband in family photos vs husband going fishing lol. I don't think I'll participate this time, clutch isn't in and also the last time I went there were too many numpties on the cruise sessions. Nearly caused a few accidents holding up people and a few guys initiating massive kerb to kerb drifts with heaps of cars right behind them. Not to mention, there were guys on the track session using it as a power cruise session.

    • All Jap Day is coming up again! 13th of July this year. Are you going? Tickets go on sale on Wednesday 6pm. Please let Quang know as well. https://m.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=1163155775853542   I still get shit from my wife for this photo because it is the happiest she has ever seen me. And it's not with her, it's in someone else's car.   Quang's EVO is sick, but that rotary wagon flying past was absolutely bonkers.
