Hey all i have one of those apexi super pod filters and i want to install but not going to do it without a proper heatshield. I cant be bothered making one myself so which would be the best ones for the R33 skylines i have a series 2 but R33 i assume are all the same. I have seen the clear top ones sold here any reviews on them?? I know a guy who has one and got it ceramic coated to make sure the pod is properly cooled would this be the best way to go as its enclosed and protects pod/afm from dirt/water?? what about those UAS cold air boxes are they any good and protect the pod aswell as afm from water and stuff?? or should i get one custom made by a shop?? so many choices so hard to choose. Im NOT after a budget option either im after high quality. btw i have the standard intercooler.

Not after a budget option?

Keep your standard snorkel and pair it up with a ARC Super Induction Box ( http://www.nengun.com/catalogue/product/658 ) - $500.

is the standard snorkel any good for briging in air? it seems like air cant get to the mouth of it when the bonnet is closed because of the front nose pointing down on the bonnet..

??

the uas one reduced temps alot when i combined it with tubing from the front bar to the hole where the stock cooler pipe went...

i dont think the snorkel will work with the UAS one since its fully enclosed on the top and side

I have the UAS one and am getting a satainless steel cold air duct made for it which will go to the front bar.

Plan to have a square to round transition sitting behind the opening in my bar which will be fitted to 3" pipe and feed under the pod :D

Use Standard snorkle, with the airbox made by Mr_crust (think this his username)

I have got it, and has worked fine!! no dramas at all and i have a apexi pod as well..

However once i get a front mount, will use that standard hole n feed more air in from there as well..

Also im sure air goes thru the standard snorkle. I know it doesnt look like it but im sure NISSAN would have tested it..

    • Another question sorry, what stainless do u use in the turbo external WG plumb back piping? Is it 321, 316 or 304?
    • Right, its been a while for updating this car, but I made some small but important progress today. In the end I bought an Ecutek dongle from the Australian distributor Tunehouse (for local hardware support) but have gone with a remote tune from Racebox in the US (because they have done millions of these, and I could not find any tuner where I could access the tune anyway as they are all password locked). The App is reasonably easy to work with, but the PC software reminds me of Haltech's ECU Manager that you need to use with the Plat Pro ECUs, it is a nightmare.  Anyway, I sent the details over, got back a tune file and a request for data logs. I finally got a chance to access a private test track today as they want redline logs in 3rd and 4th, and have sent them back for the first round of reviews. The main difference in the tune is going from 1.0 (stock) to 1.3 bar (19psi), although I'm sure is a lot of other stuff in the background. Keeping in mind this is a dead stock car with 125,000klm, this is what the App's performance test claimed: Before After Interesting to note that both 400m tests had the same terminal speed (158klm/h) but different ETs. And no, the speed limiter seems to be higher than that at 186kl/h. Summary of the key logged parameters for the 3rd and 4th gear runs were: Those little turbos were certainly whizzing at 200,000rpm+.  Also I'm really not that excited about oil pressure 55psi at redline so I think I'll go thicker than 5w30 (nissan recommend 0w20....) and see if that improves it. Other than that (and the big boost spike....) everything looks good as a start to me.
    • Just one more post to show the final result and the original "janky" solution for a laugh. Everything feels really tight and no wobbling at all, very pleased 🙂
