Adam - no not to the sutdies of - to the amount of knowledge they should know. Cops just aren't traffic cops - think about how many laws there are. Legality of cars is just a small portion of their jobs. As someone said - if the sticker it - it isn't really saying the car is illegal FOR SURE - more that it needs to be checked for legailty.... the PITS guys know what to look for. :(

Alot of cops have been quite nice to me whenever ive been pulled over for stuff. Always tried to come across as genuine and willing to accept their advice. Usually this has proven successful.

However those cops who DO pull people over and give them the old speed lecture should think twice. I'll give them the story of a certain R33 that was in my friends workshop, it belonged to an officer who decided he'd like to do a top speed run down the freeway. Engine let go at 245km/h.

Give him the bloody speed lecture.

If ya get caught for breaking the law then wear it, no need to be a dickhead on the side of the road and just make trouble for yourself.

As for yellow stickers... some officers who claim to be experts are really kidding themselves. Ive now witnessed about 15 yellow stickers removed from vehicles that have had NO changes made to them before going over the pits. And thats just from friends and family's cars over the years.

In general us "enthusiasts" know better than to drive something dangerous, we all like to drive hard on occasion which means we look after our cars for that purpose. Id much rather see some of the old bombs being taken off the road, but apparently if your 45 and have grey hair, your unsafe vehicle is no threat to anyone.

Ive been let go on a 6 pointer! haha i wont even begin to list the road rules i broke there - cos it was a list - basically excessive speed and tailgating.

Its all about attitude - lose the attitude always admit you were in the wrong - but if they ask what speed you think you were doing never tell them because it usually means they didnt clock u and they cant book u.

Been pulled over a few times and ive never had a sticker and only on one occasion did i lose points *touch wood* - so i cant complain about the WA police.

They certainly like to ensure Transport are also overworked by sending cars back to them that dont require it.

Id just like to see police officers make decent and justified judgements on the side of the road instead of biased and unsubstantiated ones. In regards to the roadworthyness of cars I mean :P

The other thread on here about the cop asking a GTR owner to adjust his carby is a prime example. We've got a whole bunch of traffic police out there who dont know one end of a car from another. Theyre always claiming education is the key to road safety.... how about giving the poor bastards some so they can do their job better!

just because a cop THINKS something shouldnt be there or THINKS something is too low doesnt justify a yellow sticker i think, why should we have to pay the 50 odd dollars because a cop THINKS something is wrong, only to find out when you have it inspected it is perfectly LEGAL, thats the only problem i have with yellow stickers, i think they should try to concentrate more on giving the bombs on the road yellows, not the enthusiasts cars.

Why dont your friend go to the licencing centre and get a Permit!

cheers

You idiot he said stock evo 6 This means it hasnt been modified therefore he needs no mod permits, shit, are you that dull? The cops are saying they know more then the ADR people who have already passed this car after much more stringent tests then pushing on the bonnet.

Snezza how the hell did that happen ?????????????;)

I do agree with most of what you said but when they issue yellows for what are obviousley moronic excuses then the WA police should be made to bear the cost for what is essintially not performing there duties, and as hippy said was the cop a suspension expert ? extremley unlikely ppl like that cop and not just cops should shut up when not sure then open there mouth and confirm they know nothing of what they are talking about.

just my 2c

John

Hey Kidd,

It wasnt a chick and guy combo was it? when was this? and whereabouts?

Ill have to agree with Bully ont his 1 though, they do need our support. U cant say u dont support the police casue of a few aholes on the job. By that logic i could say that all SAU ppl are morons whens its only a small percentage (not pointing finger)

Settle down! OK it was a stock evo... but cops don't know that - they aren't expected to know the stock version of every vehicle on the road.

It does get tiring hearing people whinging about cops all the time.

Cops are just people like the rest of us. They do try their best at thier jobs and deserve more praise. They put their lives on the line for us everyday. We aren't the people out there getting guns pulled on us, seeing victims of crime - they see things that you would never want to see in a lifetime. But all some people can do is complain cause they were treated "unfairly" How many of you were treated badly or unfairly in a clothes shop, in a restaraunt etc etc???

alot of the younger ones do have a problem, they think just cause ive got a badge im one better than you and i can do whatever i want and u can do stuff all about it. but as i said before, there not all the same, just alot of the younger ones need an attiude change.

I was a victim of a car-jacking and to see the cops just close the case when they have admitted they know who one of the offenders were, well that lost my respect for the police force.

    • Yep, that was one of the things we learned fast in the past with our MX5. When you drive with the top down, you are effectively standing out in the sun, 100% of the time, and not getting in any shade (because roads aren't shaded generally!). Just like standing out in the middle of a field on a sunny 27C day is a bit of a bad plan, so is sitting in a MX5 without sun protection.
    • I also just ordered some Frankenstein bolts and side mounts to fit a hard top Just in case I do find one, basically so it doesn't need to be fixed to the car with only the front latch.......and then gaffa tape to keep it in place for the RTN journey from wherever I get it
    • If your temps are fine now, you probably won't have any issues with where your vents are as they don't look right up at the windscreens high pressure area, so any differences when giving it the beans for extended happy laps would be minimal, but, they should vent heaps when stuck in traffic  Much like how that reverse cowl on my SS let "visible" heat out when stationary, but, because it was basically at the windscreen my coolant temps on the Hwy actually raised because air was being fed into it at speed (110kph), to only come back down to around 90° when I got off the Hwy And your 100% correct about the NC currently not needing vents, but, if I was to add a turbo, and a oil cooler and intercooler in front of the condenserand radiator, and then take it to the track???? It is apparently a recommend requirement if I don't want to worry about coolant or oil temp issues, but, any of the above are possible scenarios, over time As it sits now, with the triple pass radiator and stock air conditioning system, I have absolutely no issues with either temps or air conditioning efficiency, I've been basically daily driving thie car for the last month, both on the Hwy, and peak hour, bumper to bumper traffic, but, that's pretty much expected from basically a standard engine  Talking about no issues daily driving, it was 39° the other day and I was sitting in bumper to bumper traffic on the M5 and then M7, with the top down, and with the air conditioning blowing nice cold air on my feet, balls, and face, well, there was one issue, my head and arms got pretty sun burnt Note to self: leave a hat and sunscreen in the car for such days 🤣
    • I would agree, unless you need something specific to the HV motor/battery side repaired or investigated, any mechanic will be able to perform normal services, but if you prefer, maybe look for a mechanic who regularly services/repairs Nissans, the VQ engines are pretty common in the Nissan lineup.  Sorry, I can't make any suggestions, I don't live in Vic.
    • Some of them keep working fine. 9 out of 10 of them end up causing an absolute misery bleeding the system and get thrown on the workshop floor in a tantrum and never thought about again because they were never really needed and just added crap to the car that we could have done without. Same-same with HICAS, A-LSD, and various other stupidities that over eager 10x engineers thought we had to have.
