hi guys i've just started progressons on rebuilding my engine. I want it to used to the track/road. So about 300rwkw maybe more all day.

just a few quick questions: i'm confused on which head gasket to use. reading through the 3037 thread they mentioned o-ringing the block? do i have to change the c/r?

Also i planned on using arias forged pistons with gtr rods (preped) but have heard that it is better to use the same brand rods, pistons and rings. Is this true

i just have to take the flywheel off and it hops onto the stand to be stripped

mods planning to run:

arias froged pistons

gtr preped rods

strong bolt set

crank nitrated re-coed

block to be sent to with pistons to be balenced blueprinted etc

head polished

valve springs --not sure??

gready plenum

manifold

turbo-not sure yet

tomei cams

sorry about the long thread just need some info cleared up and to know i'm on the right track

simon

It's not so much a head gasket choice but a compression ratio choice. I spent weeks on this issue with my rebuild.

I would use about 8.5:1 CR if I were you. I know that you can get better response and power with a higher CR but it's easier and safer this way. Don't let anyone tell you to drop it much further or you will hate your car on the street.

I would also suggest you use a stock thickness head gasket like a cometic or whatever and get your head machined to create the CR you desire. Your engine builder/head reconditioner can do this for you.

Pfft to using same brand pistons, rods and rings. Arias are good. I used Wiseco. There are a few good brands that don't cost too much.

GTR rods should be fine at that level I think.

I would use a 2835 ProS with the 0.82 exhaust housing.

Get a crank collar put on for the oil pump drive, cheap insurance. www.proengines.com.au can help you there, they can sell you one or fit it as well since you can't fit it yourself at home.

You might find the head is ok.

My ole RB25 head was in great condition and totally standard when i ran 270rwkw @17psi and 330 with 24psi & fuel

So have the head inspected, and depending on its condition go from there maybe?

Just remember, you live in Melb... and you probably wont get away with a big high-mount forever.

I couldnt even get away with a big (well hidden) low-mount turbo.

So that IMO should play a fair part in your decicion as going back to stock is a nightmare

cheers

r31- yeah i seem to have no luck when it comes to the boys in blue. Is it pos to get away with a low mounted internally gated urbo or is it nessesary for the power/setup i'm after to have an exernally gated one?

i was thinking gt30 or 2835 ProS with the 0.82 exhaust housing as bob suggested.

thanks

i just managed to low-mount my GT30, but that was using a manifold\

That was externally gated

But it was still picked up even though it was hidden and you wouldnt know there was a 45mm gate under it all.

If you drop you power aim by around 20-30rwkw easily possible with an internally gated turbo

GCG hi-flows of the stocker R34/VG30 are making around 250rwkw.

You could squeeze a bit more.

Or even a GT-RS do quite ok aswell
