Good idea, but i dont like how they have an elbow at the point where it mounts to the seat belts. In an accident it would place a bending moment on the bar and unless there is something done to stop it rotating you could quickly find yourself with 4-6" of loose harness as the thing spins 180deg.

Good idea though.

Hey guys, what is the legalities for using harness on the street?? I was thinking of getting a harness to use with my GTR pew, maybe a quick release so i can use the lap/sash when i am cruising about

Yeh see what you saying but I think that is what the brace (which appears to be adjustable ) to the floor is there to prevent am assuming it would go to maybe the seat belt anchor points not sure might have to try and get in touch with the seller on ebay for more info.

These would I assume be okay for track days etc. where only normal lap sash type belts are okay but would have to be removed if you wanted to use the rear seat anyway, with a B Pillar brace I reckon they would stiffen up the car a little though too.

Funnily enouigh, the crappy harnesses that have a buckle like a std seat belt are the only type of legal harness. Even then they need to be engineered to ensure that teh person installing them has enough grey matter to ensure they are correctly installed.

So the cool $500 Willans harnesses et c are illegal

Stumbled across this the other day and seemed like a good option to me however it is designed for s14-15 but a similar idea might work for a skyline I thinks

i would not personally use that to mount a harness. i would think any cams scrutineer would not be having a bar of it. (pun intended).

Plus, it makes both your rear seats unuseable for no good reason. with a single harness the passenger side rear seat is still usable, and with un clipping 2 belts both rear seats are usable.

Also, different ppl have different likes, but i personally woudl rather slightly longer harnesses. Havign them secured so close to the back fo the seat means that in an accident there is no give in the harness. If they were a bit longer then there is a little more slack...and sounds silly but less likely to injure your internals/eyes etc

Rather than start a new thread, I thought this was the best place for my question.

Can anyone see a problem with mounting my harness like this ?

The harness goes over the top of the harness bar, and down to the factory mounting points. It maintains the required angle that CAMS recommends from the seat to the harness bar.

I think you'll get away with it.

But personally I'd wrap it around the taxi bar.

Yeah, I didn't know whether terminating it too close to the drivers seat would be bad, as some of the earlier comments suggest. Be nice to have some give in the straps in a big accident.

Yeh, wrap it around the bar and dont use eyelets . There are two schools of thought regarding strap lengths.

Some WRC guys etc all use mega short straps due to the potential of roll overs and impacts that will distort the cage. So any cage distortion etc can result in a loose harness and driver/navigator not being 100% secure.

The trade off is with short straps there is no "damping" in a big accident. Even if the stretch is only in mm, longer straps dampen the Gs the body is subjected to in a major impact and can help reduce the bruising of internal organs etc

So there is no right or wrong.

Dont need to tie them off. Just use the buckle. This is how i have mine

Just being a pedantic bugger here, but strictly speaking, you shouldn't leave the loops loose like in those photos. Page 27 of the Schroth manual talks a bit about it.

There's plenty of good reading in the manual, but some of it is very pedantic, probably like the example above. Still, I comply where reasonably possible. They also have some interesting insights into 3" vs 2" belts, and 5pt / 6 pt belt mounting. Good reading for anyone wanting to fit harnesses.
