Im not to certain your bearings and gaskets are included in that price, i think thats bullshit. My rings were around 150 trade, gasket set 200 trade and pistons were going to be 550. Thats staff discount also not trade so cost + GST

SirRacer I don't GIVE A F**K if your certain or not mate. Were you standing over my shoulder when I bought the kit? Thats what I paid complete rebuild kit, it was around $440 Pistons Rings Bearings and Gaskets. It was staff price and I am not sure theyre "Race Series" or not thats what I asked for, I know theyre standard type cast (which I stated) and NA compression ratio pistons. Why do you have to come on here and say I am talking shit, when you obviously don't know.

And yeah most the questions on here have been examined in great depth on the sticky post R33 RB30 Engine conversion thread. Its just hard to find any information theyre because its too long, and to be honest even though I should I couldnt be bothered reading it all either!

Dropping an rb30 in is suprisingly straight forward.

The only mods required are engine mounts, dump pipe and power steer bracket. + the vvt if you go the rb25 route.

I would have to say the vvt is the most indepth and most fiddly to do.

The way I look at it.

R32 - R32 RB25DE or RB26.

R33 - R33 RB25DE/T or RB26.

Unless you struggle to find an R32 rb25de head then I wouldn't bother with the r33 rb25de/t head UNLESS you simply wanted to.

R32 RB25DE head in an R33.... You would have to have rocks in your head.

RB26 is obviously the best option in all cases. ;)

With regards to buying items...

It is cheaper to buy a complete rebuild 'kit' rather than buying individual parts.

The same goes for rebuilding your head, grab the VRS kit that contains all top end gaskets/seals and valve stem seals for around $280 odd.

Try to buy the valve stem seals on their own and you are up for $330. Go figure. :D

The RB30DET thread really is a too large. It contains a LOT of inaccurate information that only confuses one. When it first started out almost nothing was known on the build up so some recommendations are obviously not 'the best' that could be offered.

Hell we are even still learning now... i.e CP pistons being an almost perfect choice for the RB30DET.

The rb30 guide that has been collated is still updated.

It covers what I consider to be the most important to you and even an engine builder that hasn't done such a build before.

Guys, the Cubes guide (in his sig etc) or the RB30 conversion thread has all the info

Yes the RB30 sticky is long

Yes the RB30 stick has a lot of information that is over your head

But at the end of the day. Grab a beer, sit down and start reading.

It might take you the better part of a week, its very long.

But it does have everything you can think of, and then something that you are yet to think of as someone else already thought about it :)

RB26 IMO not the best option. No-one in thier right mid would put one in with stock turbos.

So you add anotehr 2.5-3k onto the purchase price of the motor right away

Reading the rb30 sticky now, man 186 pages of info, easy to confuse a new comer to the scene like me. I think i will start reading Cubes' guide, seems alot less double talk and not as much useless info in there! (now when i say useless i mean useless to me, as it is way over the top of my head!) Thanks Cubes! :ermm::D

    • Also had a look at the Nissan JP website looks like the 400r has a slightly shorter ratio than than the regular V37 3.133 VS 2.937 which from a guy who has driven both 3.69 vs 4.11 ratios in the S15 is bugger all. Seems that the AUTO Z runs the same ratio as the 400R but can't find any info as to if its an open or LSD? More often than not the auto LSD is open
    • Do not replace the power steering lines with this stuff. If it's anything like the Chase Bays stuff it will leak and be worse than stock. The reason why the reservoir is on the LH/passenger side of the car is because that's just where the reservoir was most convenient to fit. Don't overthink this stuff. The intake/cold side of the engine is pretty busy on these cars. And again, the hardpipe is designed to be a janky power steering cooler. In theory you can replace it with a real power steering cooler but that's really only for track use where boiling the fluid is a distinct possibility. Start with the low pressure lines feeding the pump from the reservoir. Make sure there isn't a bunch of junk in the reservoir filter. Be careful to not get ATF all over the engine bay. I hate dealing with ATF spills, you can clean it up and the slightest crevice will still release more oil that can still drip over time. You also want to inspect for leaks before you make a mess and can't tell what happened. Most likely you have a leak somewhere that is allowing fluid out and air in. Failing that it's allowing air in but not fluid out. Only place I can really see that happening is on the low pressure side because the pump will pull a slight vacuum to draw fluid in. Everything after the pump is high pressure or lower pressure, approaching atmospheric by the time it returns to the reservoir.
    • I did a skidpan night at SMSP this week, it was much cheaper than $350. But yeah, you need to slap an LSD in that thing.  I put an OS Giken in the 370Z and it's f**king MARVELOUS even compared to Nissan's viscous LSD. So you're saying it's free now that it's a housing estate? 😂
