It's just a parallel system.. Which means you need to tap into both.. i.e. two into the one SAFC knock wire.

There is either knock in cylinders 1-3 and/or cylinders 4-6 .. therefore there is "knock" in at least one cylinder. That's all that you need to, and the SAFC II needs to know.

They are wired into the block at front and back, as obviously its more accurate that way to measure both the front and the back separately. I'm a little unsure why the ECU (which has the two inputs as separate pins) really needs to know exactly which cylinders (front/back) are knocking, but maybe it does a little injector and spark reduction to protect 1-3 or 4-6 at any one time, along with it's standard timing reduction.
