mazgtr
Just curious if anyone has had a serious attempt at weight reduction in their car, and wether they have any weights for items removed. People often remove rear seats, spare tyre and jack, but others go to the extreme of aircon, sound deadening and full interior removal aswell. My R32 GTR with 18inch rims and R33 brakes, coupled with the exhaust and IC, would probabley be 1500KG now, as opposed to the stock 1480KG. I figure the spare and jack would be worth 20kg? But not sure on rear seats or passenger seat? Anyone know what a stock seat weighs? Otherwise i might have to go thru it myself and post some weights as i remove some stuff.. Just curious... mazgtr
LOL!!! Thanks for the offer. But the main reason im looking at weight reduction, is the fact it costs me nothing to remove certain weight/items from my GTR. I dont want to start spending to much buying lighter versions of stuff i allready have, im not that committed yet. Cheers for the offer. Thanks Fitzpatrick i found a couple of old threads to read... xRHETTx
With removing the rear seats please remember that (at least in Victoria) removing the seats makes your car defectable. darrinspencer
I read somewhere on here the R32 Hicas system is approx 30kg You can do away with that Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/115938-weight-reduction/#findComment-2142204 Share on other sites
djr81
Unfortunately the easy things to remove tend to be at the wrong end of the car. GT-R's are front heavy & the spare wheel, HICAS rack, jack, rear seat are all at the wrong end. If you are looking to reduce weight the best gains are made not so much from the interior, but from uder the bonnet. So bin the air conditioning system. Dump the HICAS piping & solenoids. Generally chuck out anything that doesn't have a go fast function. Get a smaller battery, for instance. Also, don't forget the wheels & tyres. 17" rims & tyres will usually be lighter than their 18" equivalents. Savings in unsprung weight are pure, unalloyed gold.
