Stupid question (and sorry to hijack :D) but where does one get wrap and flameproof paint from to paint over it (ala Beer Baron styles). Just got my dump pipe made and want to try and contain the heat somewhat.

Is it something that mopst places sell like Autobarn?

i got the wrap from Flyn (was cheap enough) and the paint from autobarn. i used the black paint. comes in a red can and says flameproof on it - up to 1500 degrees f. give it a few coats.

You can also buy it through Racespec on SAU. His prices are much better than R.R., but for the paint it probably doesn't matter much.

You can also get it from E.T. Performance in Dandy. They sell a couple of different widths and lengths, and pretty cheap too.

Also, be interesting to see how you go with that black paint...personally i will never use that rubbishg again. First can stopped workign after about 5 seconds leaving me with a uselass $50 can full of hi-temp silicon spray for exhaust wrap that i couldnt get out of the can

i believe i have some useful advice. with that can what sort of nib does it have? you should be able to replace it (im not sure what sort of can it is) so find a nib that is a similar size. put it on the can, turn it upside down and spray away. this will clean the tube that goes to the bottom of the can and spray just gas through it. (does that make sense?) every time it block up just turn it upside down and pump the nib (it should clean it if its still wet).

even a lynx can nib should do te trick. (if it fits)

forgive me if im wrong cos i assume its a can with a nib.

cheers. james.

Its not worth bothering with the flame proof paint. The moment you get your exhaust really up to temperature when on boost it will fry off instantly.

I actually had problems with my other car and melting the white header wrap. It first started to go brittle, and then started falling apart. Closer inpsection revealed that the glass wrap had melted and I had glass beads in the pattern of the header wrap stuck to my stainless manifold.

I've since changed to graphite impregnated wrap from horsepowerinabox and that sorted out the melting issue. Here's a pic of my setup.
