Hey everyone,

My girlfriend has just bought her dream car (97 R33 Series 2). It is currently turbo but it has to come off because some big gun in the government does not realise that you can speed in any car.

The guy she is getting the car from (Joel from Aussie Car Compliance - TOP bloke real fair prices and real honest) is organising for his mechanics to remove the turbo as soon as we have sourced the needed parts.

I have been told by a few people that it will not run as well as it does now without the turbo. I honestly dont know shit about cars and just want to make sure that everything that is needed to be done - is definately DONE so no damage is done to the car. She does not mind that the car will not be as powerful.

I have been informed by a few mechanics that I need the following parts to convert it to non turbo -

- Manifold

- Dump pipe

- Engine pipe

- Air intake meter pipe

She does not mind that the car will not be as powerful - I just want to make sure its still reliable and stable.

Ive sourced a manifold and an engine pipe to suit, but am still looking for a DUMP PIPE and a AIR INTAKE PIPE. I have called around but nobody seems to have em! I even sunk low enough to call the "mechanics" at unique autosports in castle hill that know less than I do and I literally got a blunt "we wouldnt be interested in stuff like that" reply.

If anyone knows where I can get them from, please let me know !

Wouldn't it be easier just to trade in for a factory non-turbo Skyline and have some extra cash?

You could use it to pay the speeding fines the government are apparently stopping you from getting by banning turbos :)

If this is because of the P-plate restrictions, you can't just take a GTS25t and remove the turbo. The car is on the restricted list and short of getting an exemption she won't be able to drive it.

Also, removing the turbo would be an engine modification - another no-no under the rules anyway.

raz0r$harP, thanks for trying to help but I have already called the RTA on many occasions and have been told the car is ok to drive as long as the turbo is removed. I have also called just cars and insurance has been sorted out with the turbo removal! So there are no problems in this area but thanks again anyway!

I called a few mechanics today aswell and a few importers such as justjap - etc and they have said that they have done the conversion a few times because of the rule - but they have run out of the parts!!!

Anyway - anyone know where I can get the parts ASAP!?

wouldn't the turbo engine have lower comp than the non-turbo.

will the computer work very well like that?

You will have a low comp engine, larger injectors, turbo ecu and it won't run well at all. why are u doing this to yourself?

are you doing it so you can keep the car and throw the turbo back on when its all done?

why don't you just sell it, by time she can drive a turbo car again, get a better one... prices are coming down all the time.

She is NOT going to sell the car - she just got it, I have lost count of how many we looked at the past 2 years and no shit it is the cleanest r33 that i (and also the mechanics we took it to) have ever seen - my girlfriend has just been waiting for an almost immaculate one to pop up! I have never been so jealous haha.

She got a real good deal on it through Joel from Aussie Car Compliance - if anyones looking for a car - go to him. He sells good stuff - not the usual run down shit!

The run fine bit is what I was worried about.

Buying a turbo performance car when you don't want performance is a whole other issue.

Well there you go - I always assumed it would still be illegal. Just spoke to my mate at Tech Enquiries, he said it's a vehicle licensing (Customer Service) issue but should be okay.

He said you could you might also run into emissions problems however.

That all being said, I dunno cost wise but couldn't you just throw in an RB25DE?

be possible to swap with na pistons to bring compression up, na chipped ecu or a gts link ecu, and replace manifold with extractors. or instead of pistons - maybe a really really thin head gasket, deck the block or the head abit.

injectors shud be fine with a chipped/aftermarket ecu and obviously a retune

car will drive like a total slug otherwise.

its alot of work - and like above an RB25DE would be a cheaper option, or RB30DE :ermm:

the added bonus would be the bigger brakes.

thanks for all your replys and suggestions.

A mechanic has sourced all the parts for me that are needed for the conversion. The parts are genuine and are coming from a standard non turbo 33 half cut.

I have been told that the car will have to be tuned afterwards and may need a new computer which the mechanic has.

She has already bought the car! She is keeping this one as it will be easier to sell later.

Later on - it would be harder to sell a non turbo automatic rather than just a turbo automatic!! When we were shopping around - she got this one for about the price of a standard non turbo series 2 - so she doesnt mind spending a little money on it.

I will let you all know how it all runs after it is complete.

Forgot to mention!!

Got a price quote on a engine replacement. 60,000km's and the guy didnt know what year it was. From SSS imports or something like that. He was chasing $1500 for the engine alone, or around $2500 installed.

As opposed to around $450 in parts needed for the conversion!!

Im sorry to say, but as others have said, its will be worthwhile buying a NA in the first place. .

Whats the point of spendin money on convertin it to NA form??

You can pick up a NA one for like under 13k easily??

But each to their own.. but nah seriously whats the reason for not buyin a NA in the first place??

Is it because you might think it will be harder to sell a NA later on?? is that the reason??

siddr20 this car was just as cheap as an NA. yes many mechanics have been told us that it will be alot easier to sell this later on but she will also be converting it back to turbo in the near future.

i dont need your personal opinion - i need the parts as i stated earler. so do you have the parts?

We just lookin out for ya, as we all now its cheaper to buy a na car in the first place. thats all. .

But yea, if you intend to convert it back, then yup all good..
