Hey all,

Before you all ask, yes - I've done research and have read quite abit. I've just a few questions that I would like to be confirmed/clarified. :)

1. I know its been said that 11psi is the LIMIT of the stock GTT turbo, but this has been said at period of 5-10minutes where the turbo is constantly under high boost and stress. If this is the case 12-13psi for quick squirts okay for the turbo here and now again?

2. With a full turbo back 3" exhaust (split dump, high flow cat, catback) and say 11-12psi worth of boost, what sort of power is achievable with these mods? Is 170-180rwkw out of the question?

3. With the above mods, is it really necessary to change the stock SMIC? I've read that the stock GTT sidemount IC can support up to 200rwkw so technically I shouldn't really have to change my IC system until I go past this figure yes?

4. When does the stock fuel pump usually give up? I know different cars have been through different lives but what is the average amount of rwkw's where the stock GTT pump begins to choke?

5. Same for the stock injectors? When do they start to go? I believe they are 370cc stock correct?

My plans for the car are simply: turbo back exhaust, pod filter with a sealed airbox and a CAI path, 11-13psi with the supporting mods needed. At this point in time I don't think I'll be thinking of FMIC as the car is a daily driver and I'm quite sure anythign near 200rwkw will be enough (previous GTIR had 175kwatw and that was plentiful). I figured the money spent on FMIC would be better off used on a PFC instead. :)

6. Any other mods power wise I haven't taken into consideration yet? I will be of course looking into upgrading brakes, suspension components etc. as well. ;)

Well, I haven't had my GTT (tiptronic) long, but with a full A'PEXi exhaust, front pipe and Blitz panel filter I ran 177kW at the wheels. The problem is that these combine to push the psi to 10 (as oppossed to 7/8 stock) and hence rich and retard kicks in and almost makes the thing undrivable under hard accleration. This in turn contributes to fairly poor fuel consumption as well, less than 350 a tank. Hence, an intercooler, if someone can enlighten me on specifically why, may be of benefit here.

1. 12psi for the street, 10 psi for the track, 13 psi a waste of time - just blowing hot air.

2. I got 162rwkw with the tiptronic.

3. That's right. Keep it until your turbo upgrade.

4. Fuel pump will take you as far as your turbo.

5. I think they are 350cc. You can between 220 and 240rwkw with an adjustable rising rate fuel regulator. Your turbo wont give you this though and it's dangerous to expect your fuel pump to.

6. Stock brakes are very good. Get DBA 4000 rotors or RDA equivalent when the stock ones wear out. Bendix Ultimate pads work well. Suspension is good stock but check the group buy section for Sydneykids R34 gear. He is an expert so trust what he says.

Is yours an auto or manual? You will need a tunable ECU to take advantage of what you have there. SAFC if it's auto, PFC if it's manual.

Hey guys, ive only had my R34 gtt for about a month now, just joined tonite! my car has a full 3" exhaust, and safc2 ( i think thats all but not sure, im the first owner in aus so you never really no wots been done in japan) and i got my apexi retuned on thursday at unique Autosport, and made 183rwkws at 8psi! they were real suprised! as was i!! so 160 should be ezy! just my 2cents

im dynoing my R34 on the weekend.. spending lots on octaine booster.. 10 pound

don't bother putting in octane boost unless you car is pinging. it doesn't add power, just raises the octane so you can wind the timing up and thats how you get more power. and don't add more than the bottle recommends if you do that. my mate was a mechanic at repco and he races at the drags and the nulon rep came through and he was asking him about octane boost. so the rep told him to get some fuel out of his car and they did some tests (the rep had a octane tester with him). they did a test on the standard ultimate and it was just over 98ron. then they did a test at 50% recommended strength and it went up to about 99ron. then they did a test at 100% strength and it went up to 103ron. then they did a test at 200% strength and it dropped to about 94ron. that was using nulon pro race octane boost.

    • Just don't use ChatGPT or any other artificial stupidity for the equivalent of googling. Their demonstrated inability to discriminate reality from hallucination should be enough to make them totally untrusted. LLMs don't know anything and cannot think to even the smallest extent. They are just predictors of the next word, and that should never be confused with capability.
    • I think, given the usage model described in the OP, I'd never ever experience the wonders of the 400kW upgrade. What I really need is boost from 2000rpm and probably no more than 260-270rwkW. But I suspect that the highflow is not actually the turbo for that purpose, so I may in fact need to get a G25 or 30 or something right sized and very spooly. We shall see after it is tuned. I've had to back the boost and boost ramp off to stop the thing from pinging since the highflow went on, so I've been almost living the NA life for 9 months now! Injectors are recently in hand. AFM is in hand. Dyno is fixed. Just need to clear a queue of f**king Supras out of the way (and probably fit my new gearbox). So....some time this year? Lol.
    • For what I gather is a Sunday/summer car....braided is fine. You're not going to be left without a vehicle and you have plenty of time for inspection/maintenance. Oof. I wouldn't use them that way. They can probably handle the temperature** but the internal corrugations means that their flow characteristics are a bit shit. Lots of extra friction and pressure loss. Makes them flow like the next pipe size down. ** They are stainless, and the stainless can usually be at least something like 304L, which is pretty good at higher temperatures (unlike 316L, which I would use for a wrt/corrosive environment, but not a particularly hot environment). But the welding needs to be top notch. And even then, because you usually need at least one cone-seat end on them (because you can twist the hose and do up both ends at the same time unless one of them is a union) they can be prone to coming loose with heat cycles.
    • I don't have the OEM oil feed lines though and the turbo-wraparound line is torn, only has water. My plan is to get replacements for these and just connect a braided line to there. And make sure it's leak free. Hoses like these are also sometimes used to connect external wastegates, so for an EGR I think you're good using them.
    • Alright I understand. The most likely case is probably gonna be that I just keep the OEM unit in the car as long as it works.
