Hello

i have found my car its a white 95 mspec. it has a sunroof, exhaust and rims everthing else is stock. Im going down tonight to have another look and to talk to the guy about finalising things. Im gonna get it RACV tested soon.

My questions are

is HICAS a major problem or is it ok cause he said he can lock it for me if i want.

i got quoted for a 2 imobilliser cyclopse alarm $530.00. thats from tower audio. do you guys know anyother places in melb prefarably west that can do a good job.

any help would be appreciated. First time skyline buyer.

On the HICAS thing - really IMO unless you are going to become a hardcore racer then leave it in there. It's actually a pretty good thing. The only time it's bad is if you have the car on the edge of traction on say one of the big sweepers of a track like Phillip Island and it does something you don't expect then it sucks.

Otherwise - leave it in there.

ok cool thanks for that.. I leave the HICAS as is.

ill give him a call where is he located. I have been reading up on the alarms and there is a guy in sydney who fits one in with a TT and it isnt to badly priced i think $500 supplied and fitted.

Do you know if they do something like that here in melb

He will travel anywhere in Melb, free onsite installation. Probably best to call him. I'm not sure what he charges for alarms, but he is reasonably priced.

His name is doug, tell him Kat (his sister) referred you from skylines Australia

Does he do stereo installs as well? If so, can he do them at my work place? Only in ringwood.

Keep HICAS in there.

Lots of people say get rid of it etc. My last 2 skylines, my 32 had it locked, my 33 had it. To be honest, it wasnt that much of a issue. People who know me know that I drifted the 33 quite a bit and Hicas never posed a problem.

ok i went to look at the car. and now im even more undecided..

it doesnt come with a cd player or speaker. does come with original skyline mats exhaust and rims. He wouldnt let me drive it but he took me for a drive and it was awesome.

well it doesnt come with a warranty he said it will cost more for a warranty.

i asked about getting it racv tested and he said he doesnt take the car any where and that they would have to come to him. and oviously RACV dont come out to check these cars.

do you guys know of anyone that can go out and check it for me. is there any other way of getting it compression tested.

Time to walk away........

There are plenty of other 33's on the market and this sounds like he has something to hide. Is he a dealer? Most the time it is better to go private, as dealers are professionals at making "mutton look like lamb". But sometimes you can find a good one in a yard.

NOTE: Do not take it to RACV, a specialised performance shop (of you choice) would do a better job for inspection.

PM me if you need any assistance, i also live in the West....

Ditto.

was going to post almost the same thing.

R33's are common enough, you should be able to get what you want for a decent price - including a radio and speakers.

or you could get an R32 (plug). but its your choice to get what you want.

walk away.

good luck on finding a new car. you shouldn't need it, but you can have it anyway.

it's different feeling when you are sitting insomeone elses car and actually driving it. Most of the time, having a ride in the car, you won't be able to learn anything. Take a drive and you'll find out something new about the car. Drive it for a week and you'll know just about every problem the car will have.

thanks again for all the help..

i found a place down the road from where the car is that is able to test the car and is not to far from the car yard virtually down the road. its called NISCARE on sydney road fawkner it is recommended by VACC. the guy is really good and so is the car exactly what i want.

The only reason im looking at car yards is i have a car that i cant sell and he has been the only place thats got a car i like at the right price and is willing to give me a trade in.

even so, just be careful, this guy sounds ultra dodgy... you should be able to drive the car for starters, unless your not on your P's etc.. cd player and speakers arn't a big deal, did you ask him why they arn't there though? And shouldn't dealer cars come with some sort of warranty included.? even if it's just the very very basic one..

go to www.racv.com.au and look at the buying a car section.. there are some tips that came in handy when I bought my skyline..

i sent him an email this morning and he said it doesnt come with a warranty because the car is over 10 years old and isnt covered under statutory warranty. He said he can offer me extened warranty for a price though.

How important is the warranty?

he said he is willing to drop the car off at the testing place to get it inspected.

Honesty i do not trust dealer warrenties. They patch up the fault/problem in the cheapest way possible. Better off getting it checked properly and going by that. If something does happen you will fix it properly.

Just my opinion....

hmm $530 is fairly expensive, i remeber getting my cyclops immobiliser supplied and fitted for a lot less than that 2 years ago

yeah the guys good. I wasnt to fussed about the warranty either. my uncle said that if you get the car checked and there are no major probs it probably wont have anything go wrong in the first year wnyway.

ill ust get it checked by niscare and then take it from there.

it the alarm and the central locking unit as well. something like keyless entry

i have a very nice stock R33 for sale and i have nothing to hide about it

im open to having it racv tested.

pm me for details and pictures.. allmost everyone on here can vouch for my car... genuine reason for sale.. to be honest i dont really want to sell it.. i have to :D

    • Good morning all, Bit of a random question but figured I’d finally throw it out after wondering for a long while. Before I start, I'm hoping to do this purely out of personal preference. I think it would look better at night, and don't mind at all spending a few hours and dollars to get it done. I've copied this from a non-Skyline specific forum, so I apologize for the explanation of our headlight switch setup that we all know. Here we go: Zero lights (switch off) Parking lights (switch position 1) being a rectangular marker on the outside of the housing, my low beam being the projector in the centre (position 2), and a high beam triggered by my turn signal stalk. Most North American cars I’ve owned of this era have power to the amber corner (turning indicator) light as part of the first switch (parking lights). I’d love to have these amber corners receive power when the headlights and parking lights are on (headlight switch), yet still blink when using the turn signal which is of course a separate switch. Hopefully I’ve explained my question correctly. Is anyone aware of a way in which I might be able to achieve this? Thanks in advance
    • My heads are cathedral port! It's likely possible, but I don't want to add any extra moving parts (I know they don't move) between the heads, manifolds, etc. It will also affect how injectors/fuel rails etc sit and I don't really know if it would change how the FAST manifold goes/sits/fits. I have the LS6 steam pipes already as I have a very late LS1 block so it should be fine. I couldn't find anyone who had ever actually used one for this purpose, it seems 100% of people grind the water pump. The thermal spacers are 12mm and are half way to the cost of the newer water pump anyhow... so if it comes to that I suppose I'd rather buy a new pump. The bearing in the pump I do have is a little.. clunky, but it hasn't done that much time and I never noticed it when the car was together in the past few years, so..
    • The bushing has failed, not all that uncommon for a car of this age.  Any mechanic should be able to push in a new bushing for you, or you can probably buy the entire lower control arm, complete with bushes.
    • Could you not use "thermal" spacers to give the clearance, like the ones I used between the blower and head? That raised the manifold height by around 10-15mm Albeit the ones I used were for cathedral ports, but I assume they have similar for rectangular ports????
    • Thanks Paul I reached out to Autotainment but they no longer work on JDM cars as the guy who used to do the work moved on and is no longer doing that kind of work. I am talking with Level Up Audio though.
