Well my car arrived last nite to find out today from my customs agent that my car has been audited. Apparently this is "random" and is generated automatically by a "computer". So i asked the agent what needs to be done...

First customs wants us to organise an independant valuer to value the car..... and then I pay tax on that value (although I've been told that sometimes the value can come in less than what is declared I doubt this will be the case). Also I have to pay for the valuation myself.... why the f*ck should I pay for it since I have all documentation and receipts to prove the cost of the car... that is BS for one. So lets say someone finds a really good deal in Japan and gets the car here for cheap and then some d*ckhead goes "NO you can't do that.... since I have a shitter car than you or because I am inadequately sized you'll have to pay more tax".

This will prolong the time that the car sits on the dock in which case I again have to pay for the car sitting on the docks while the d*ckhead customs organise themselves.... and has anyone noticed how BS the tax is.... first all cars under $55K get taxed at 15% for customs duty tax.... then this amount is FURTHER taxed at 10% GST.... hold on.... isn't that tax being payed on tax? WTF?

Well now that I've vented I feel better..... has this happened to anyone else??

    • I definitely agree with you there - I never click on content for cars I would never ever be able to get or compete with/against/be seen next to. Seeing a MX5 compete with a FD RX7 will make people upset though, for sure. Even in 2.5L Turbo form which is pretty grass roots. (or at least as grass roots as classic cars can be) Yes we're all classic car owners now.
    • Wonder what the cause is, but here's hoping it's nothing too serious.
    • People don't always want builds that are overly expensive, or have engineering/registration/insurance issues and head aches that come with them Whilst big dollar builds, and complicated stuff is interesting to watch, there is only a tiny % of people who would actually use this information, or have the spare finances to drop on said builds, whereas the buy a cheap(ish) cool car, and make it better, with a average budget, that the average Joe or Jane could achieve will always be a winner in my opinion
    • Bit of a thread revival, you mentioned wanting a bit more top end before, do you regret not going with the 1.01?
    • It's kind of interesting - They definitely do builds that split the difference between what they like and what will generate views and engagement. The NC Platform always surprises everyone in a good way, in an uncomfortably good way some may say. They could throw a LS in there and arguably have the best (and best performing) car of the entire stable. But that isn't necessarily what draws views, because people viewing don't want to accept the vegetables of a LS NC MX5 being a superior vehicle in every way (including fun) than a RB26 240Z. This is also why there's not a lot of content about the GR Yaris (on the web in general). They're too good, yet 'only a Yaris' The community doesn't want certain cars to be as good as they are - to beat their hero cars, and I believe the NC MX5 is absolutely one of those cars.
