Hey guys. Need to know the cost of owning a car. My friends tell me the road tax and stuff takes several things into consideration like age, type of car, turbo/NA, etc.

So how much would it cost (per year) for:

1) tax

2) insurance

3) anything else that would matter

And on the subject, how much would the following individual cars cost?

1) late model S14 (200sx)

2) R32 GTR

3) ER34

4) R34 GTR

5) MA70/JZA70 Supra

Thanks

well for starters ring up insurance companies and ask them, secondly goto www.carsales.com.au n find out how much the cars cost

tranfer fees are 25 dollars and 4% of total cost

this in vic

do some rsearch, most of these questions differ from state to state ... specify what state your in, and do some research yourself you slack ass ....

sounds like u have no idea. and are just wasting everyones time anyways ...

Before we go any further, please give us the following information:

Age: 20

Occupation: Uni Student

Location: Victoria

Budget: to be determined

Licence History: 3 yrs experience driving, now own full driver's license

Any Kids: not for another 10 yrs or so

The above answers will help determine most of yours answers.

I'm currently looking into the Malaysian laws of importing cars before deciding which car to buy. Need to work out which car would be worth owning for abt 3 yrs before importing it back. But in the mean time, I figured I could find out first abt the car prices and tax and stuff.

Will go ahead and call a few insurance companies as well.

in vic;

$550 for rego

$36 (went up end of last year) Rego transfer

$8 for every $200 of the car for stamp duty ie 4%

Insurance; need to ask an insurance company

$As much as you need to/want to spend on Tyres

$" " on Fuel

$" " on Service

$" " on Replacement Parts

Cost of Car

Modifications

So $1000's before you really choose which car you want (unless you get a car for a few hundred dollars, and 3rd party)

In NSW, it's 3% of the cost of the car and if you are going to buy it privately, tell the owner to leave the space blank so you can fill in at a lower price. I paid only half the tax I was supposed to pay, but then there's the rego, blue slip. Also, if you willing to pay for insurance or not.

I hope you know its a criminal offence to cheat the OSR (tax) and you could end up in jail trying to save a few $ .

well then what am i looking at?

it says RTA on it + it shows $1074 (wasnt $1014) was paid

The seller paid that when he bought it ( he was a buyer then, got it now ).

In other words everyone pays that when the buy ( not when they sell) . Licenced dealers dont pay stamp duty, just the tranfer fee.

It is really an impossible question, but here are my thoughts:

Depreciation, highly variable, what you pay for the car initially, as to what it is worth when you finally dispose of it.

Registration and fuel, probably about the only things you can be fairly certain about.

Maintenance, up to you really. Do you want to keep it in excellent condition, or let it run down. Do you do all the maintenance yourself or pay for labor ?

Repairs, again highly variable, maybe none, maybe HUGE if you are unlucky and buy a lemon, or can you do your own repairs ?

Insurance, how much risk are you prepared to take on yourself, and how much risk are you prepared to pay to have insured ? Highly variable.

Only YOU can answer these questions yourself. Nobody else can.

    • Yea - I mean I've seen my fuel pump which is decades old and uh, while I'm not saying this with real knowledge... but I sure get the ick at using anything in the fuel system that produced the state of that pump. Many years ago I went through multiple pumps (and strainers) before I dropped the tank to clean it out with extreme violence. I'm talking the car would do maybe 50km before coming to a halt, which resulted in me cleaning out the filter with some brake cleaner and going on my way. None of my stuff ever looked like what came out of your fuel tank. I don't think I'd be happy with it unless every single component was replaced (or at least checked/cleaned/confirmed to be clean here).
    • I'm not going to recommend an EBC pad. I don't like them. Just about anything else would suit me better. I've been using Intima pads for a while now.
    • Agreed, and in particular the earth strap that should go from the subframe to the chassis but it often broken or left off. There is a section in the R32 workshop manual you can follow for troubleshooting if you don't see anything suspicious, and depending where you are (there is no location on your user profile) you should be able to get your hands on a second hand replacement unit still if needed
    • Yeah they mention as a R34 for 2.5 Turbo...but then again thos "small" were also for R34 by that different site. But i look into it and that 310mm EBC is for R34 GTT. And by those you linked the specs are the same 🙂    EDIT: I found these on one site here: DBA 4000 series T3 DBA42304S They are 310mm...and it says are for R34GTT...are there good? EDIT2: ok they have pads too.  What "color" should i get for street use? I dont want/need some noisy ones...(and if they are not that dusty that is good too)
