Guys and Girls

I have been offered a new job and managed to negotiate a car allowance into it as I sold mine to fund a house deposit. The company does have a novated lease scheme that I can participate in if I want to or I can get a personal loan. From memory and the novated car lease thread from November, none of these cars will be applicable as they will all be over 8 years old at the end of the term.

SAU, I have found to be very neutral on car choice, hence the reason for asking here unlike other forums where users have blinkered vision.

My budget is really 30-35K and all of the above models bar the GTR would be 99-00 vehicles with the GTR being around a 96. I also know this budget is not top $ for each of the vehicles.

The reason for asking this now is I will need to start the new job about 2 weeks after I get back so have to get a move on with a car and would ideally like to know before I return.

This car has to be a daily driver for largely freeway driving between Geelong and Melbourne.

So opinions would be welcome on any or all as I need to get the ball rolling.

Thanks in advance people :worship:

*EDIT - OK so I stuffed the poll up! Car choices are GTR 33, GTT 34, EVO 6, STI

We have a 96 VSpec GTR, and a 98 Series 3 GTR if you're interested (both in the 35K mark) :worship:

Have you made sure that your lease will let you do the imports? it should but may be more hassle than the local stuff.... worth finding out first...

All the cars you have listed I like and are good... depends what you want to do with them? Track days? Go the 33R ... rally type events, go the evo.... road driving hmmm they are all ok, dunno about the long drives between geelong and melbourne... might be better to go the evo or the STI... tough choice :D

Alan mate i would have to say go the GTR as we all know when you were driving one around you were loving it...

Also if it's a company car premium petrol won’t be an issues as it will all be paid for if that’s right??

Guess your best bet is to take a Evo and an STI for a drive and see which you like best and base your decision on that.

Thanks everyone for the replies

Husnu - Midnight purple one looks very nice.

Snowy - The 6 is my favourite for lines but as you say the TME is still commanding big $$.

Ferni - The only car I think will fall under a novated is the STI (if I got a slightly newer one) as the others are imports and will also be older than 8 years at the end of the lease. Yours is on a novated lease though isnt it from memory and would be older than 8 years at the end?

Mav - Not sure on petrol but I have budgeted for it in my annual costings so if I have to pay for it, I will be OK

BOOSTED, Dezz, ctjet - thanks guys :(

Track stuff is more what I would like to do although an all rounder would be good to enable a try at the other types.

Two things put me off the rex and that is the amount of them on the road and the high insurance they command, probably because of the amount of younger guys driving them. :(

how bad could insurace possibly be for a rex compared to the rest of you options?? i would imagine they're all up there with the best of em...

How many STI and how many evos do you see everyday? heaps!

how many GTRs? f***all!

if you can sqeeze a GTR in the years your allowed into your budget then take it like its allready been said you wont be paying the fuel bills or insurance and you get that wow factor not the "oh another STI wow"

P.S

lucky prick!! :(

you will struggle to get a grey import on a novated lease.

most of them have canned in due to insurance and other associated costs and risks. no idea how ferni got his gtr on it, must have been lucky. my 33 was on lease but it was canned (grey imports) a long time ago.

so choice of a local delivered

have you looked into the Liberty B4?

hey alan..

i was and still am in a similiar situation since about a year ago, and i was considering a lotus elise(i know its not in the above list) for a daily drive and maybe some track days...aparently they handle rather well and have a good power to weight ratio...and in my opinion they look good, different and are relatively rare..

the only downside that i can think are the size which may cause practicality issues, the lack of electronics like power windows(which i dont overly mind having less buttons around) and a hard suspension(again i dont mind that much)...

but it is over your budget, 99-00 models range from 40-55k..

and of course it would take away some of the home-sickness that u may still experience from time to time :(

just thought i would add something different to the list..

    • Thanks mate   It's all coming together finally. It's just a better racecar now and also yeop I've pulled my thumb out and committed and the combo seems to be gelling Depends what you mean by not much more haha There's at least a 1.19 in this My fastest lap posted lost 3.5 tenths in T10 and this was on 80% power and 5 heat cycle old tyres The next session/ lap we did we were up 4 tenths with the car out of the final turn T12 accelerate straight and going with 1 or 2 tenths to come from the power to the finish line and the shifter/gbox combo stopped selecting    So we wouldve had it. The whole thing..   Also repeated this the very next lap up 3 tenths out of T10 and same issue Add some news tyres and we good   Looking forward to a break then yeop WTAC and see if we can actually have a decent run
    • Thanks, managed to find one from Australia.
    • Yeah pretty impressive hey, good to see quality products not over-shooting their prices. That's what drew me to buy the hypergear turbo, just a shame I've never got the chance to see it in action
    • Thank you GTSBoy and MBS206 I have done the compression test with the motor out of the vehicle, reason for the test was to see if I needed to remove the head and do rings etc while its out. I'm in the process of respraying the vehicle and tidying up a few things. Story behind it all is I've just purchased the skyline and it was running when I got it, never drove it on the street though as I wanted to pull it down and do it all up again before registering it. the gentleman I purchased it from told me the motor has a forged bottom end and has a decent tune through it but I was going to pull the sump off anyway to see if it is a forged bottom end. that's why I thought id do a compression test beforehand.
