sounds a bit dodgy... all the mismatching things... paint, rims, missing stereo etc etc.. just sounds to me like he was going to use it for drift etc..

How many have you actually looked at before this one? Just be patient, it took me a while to find my 32, I had to go through many duds and the one I had my heart set on was asking too much.. but in the end the waiting payed off and the one I bought is perfect and had everything I wanted for the right price.

Just go with your gut feeling, if you think there is something slightly dodgy about the car, then there probably is..

Hello

After searching the market for a couple of months, I have stumbled across a R32 for sale which suits my budget. Before I rush out to purchase the car, I was just wondering if I could get some feedback if its worth the price.

The specs are:

1992 R32 GTST Manual, 120km

PRO

- Resprayed from red to black couple of months ago

- GTR seats

- Full moulded BN bodykit

- JustJap FMIC

- HKS SSQV BOV

- HID lights

- Amp Wiring intact

- Catback exhaust

- GTR radiator

- Alarm, central locking, imob

- Aftermarket suspension

- Turbo timer & boost gauge

- Front, rear struts

- Pod

CONS

- Aircon needs regass

- Deeply keyed gtr bonnet

- No headunit

- No speakers in rear or front

- Engine Bay had not been sprayed.

- Carpet removed from boot revealing original red colour

- Minor wheel alignment needed due to rims

- Breaks squeak

Seller said he willing to sell around the $12,000 - $13,000 depending what i want fixed/included.

But will try to negotiate on lower price.

I have inspected the car and have been in a ride. As i currently do not have my P's (18 and in uni) I cannot take the car for a test drive, but from the ride the car seemed okay. If everything goes well, i might arrange a pre-inspection with Dr.Drift.

Most important thing... Is it being sold with a RWC?

Out of the "CONS" you listed, the headunit and speakers missing is probably a good thing, it means you can personalise the stereo to whatever you want, and you're not paying for unnecessary items which you probably will change later on.

The boot carpet isn't such a big issue because there will probably be someone stripping their car and you should be able to find something on the forums.

Wheel Alignment should be done for RWC if I recall correctly, but putting new rims on shouldn't mean you need a wheel alignment, or do you mean wheel balancing?

You should be able to get the Aircon regassed for less than $200 so that shouldn't be an issue, but ask the current owner to do it in the condition of sale so you know that its working before you pick the car up.

The brakes you probably should get checked out, what kind of squeak is it? Does it sound like metal grinding on metal?

Whereabouts is the car? I'm sure someone on here that knows a lot about R32s would be more than happy to go check the car out for you

Car has registration until November 2006.

The car has 16inch rims at front and 18inch rims at back. He said due to always changing his rims (cant decide) this is why the car slightly turns to the left. Although he stated that you could just adjust the steering wheel as the turn is minor.

He has both sets of rims (16 and 18) and set the choice of rims is up to me, but will probably provide the 16's if i ask for a lower price.

The car is located in Springvale, so if anyone can come or know a workshop around Springvale, Glen waverly, Clayton which can do a pre-inspection please contact me.

I have had two inspections of the car and basically deciding if i should take the plunge.

The seller stated that he gets his car serviced at N1 in Clayton.

Also he will not allow anyone drive the car unless a deposit is put down as he had a bad experience with test drivers.

I have received some pictures and taken some of my own of the interior, engine bay and boot. I will upload some when i get back from uni, and hopefully the seller is not a member of this forum.

My advice...at that price you can get a much better/cleaner example.

My friend bought this very clean example, it looks great, has an exhaust and sunroof...and is very clean for less then the guy is askign for a hacked up resprayed car...but if you like the kit then i suppose thats a bonus

Like i said, unless the car is much better then it sounds, i would be steering clear of it....it sounds like its perhaps an aspiring drift car. Add up the cost of the things it missing and its an expensive car

Sounds dodgy to me...

If he is a genuine seller, he will allow you to test drive the car even though you are 17.

When I went to buy my first car, I was allowed to test drive it, as it's only fair.

I would never buy a car I didn't drive beforehand.

I honestly think it would be a much better idea to find the cleanest stock R32 you can, and then start modding it.

So you know the modification history, and a stock car is much less likely to be thrashed than a modified car.

You can pick up S1 and even S2 R33s for that.

He's will be on his P's, so it's over the power to weight ratio.

On the inspections, sterio, speakers, amp, headunit were all connected. Although he removing all of them because he has another car lined up.

To me it seems that he has cut corners to save money.

Friendly words keyed into bonnet, and a hacked up boot with wires everywhere.

My P-Plate exam is on the 2nd June, so not long to go hehe

Although if i get the hacked up R32 for $10,000 and add $3,000 fixing it up, it will have more supporting modifications than a stock + $3k

Buying a modified car brings in a whole lot of problems for you to expect.

Being 18 and buying your first car, you really should find a stock one, unless you can afford to fix any nasty suprises that come in the future.

LOL...nice R32s are worth more then S1 R33s because liek R32s and S13s there are just so many dodgy R33s out there. I think with these types of cars the year model has less to do with the sellign price as the mods and condition.

...also sayign a modified car has been trashed..well i say buyign a stock one often means he wasnt able to afford mods, droive the wheels off the thing, just as hard, but couldnt afford to service it either so car woudl be in worse condition mechanically then other examples.

Condition is so varied...my advice, treat every car on a case by case basis as there are too many variables to allow for generalisations.

Steer clear is my advice.

You'd be suprised how much $ it takes to get a car up to scratch.

A $12k car can quite easily cost you $16-20k to make it a nice lookin' ride & fix stuff up.

ie, get a set of matching rims & tyres could be 2k+

some rust & panel repairs + paint = $1k upwards

Parts are quite expensive, but maybe 32's aren't so bad (I had a 34 and a gearboot (incl. plastic panel near ciggy lighter) from Nissan was $180 alone!).

Rego, RWC (god nly knows what that could cost to get it to a RW standard??)

Don't let emotion rule your decision.

You have no licence yet & there's heaps of lines around. They seem to be importing @ a quicker rate than ppl can write them off so the odds of a nice one turning up are getting better over time.

The whole idea of it being recently resprayed and the fact that it pulls to the left and the fact he won't let you drive tells me it has been in a big accident... many more/better examples in the fore sale section of this site...

also things like "Aftermarket suspension" isn't enough information... what brand, how old etc etc... to just clean that car up and get it driving right could end up costing you a few grand... on top of the usual things like servicing, insurance, rego and tyres...

That white R32 is real nice, might consider it :P

Aftermarket steering wheel will be replaced with stock and the big boost gauge will be removed and a small one will be placed near the drink i think.

Dr Drift :( take it to a proper mechanic, cost less unless you go to a Performance workshop (you wouldnt need to).

A test drive and inspection is a MUST.

Mate, Im not a mechanic and i could be wrong, but that stain around the oil cap and the hose above it sort of raised my eye brows a bit, either he is defying gravity when doing an oil change or something went splat. I could be wrong though.
