I can sympathise with you, had mine stolen too. Why cant they just do you the curtosy of leaving the damn brackets, ah well, I had to make my own in the end - I live in Tas - impossible to get parts... fair bit of mucking about to get it to fit. they broke the surround too (r32) so I patched it up with super glue, strengthend it with some heavy duty paper clips and re-painted it (you are probably better off going to one of those plastic welding places tho) - I will do a bit better job later, or track down a wrecker to get a new surround, but it looks ok for the moment - more important things to do first, like install an alarm... But for now watch pulp fiction, particularly the part where travolta buys heroin...

sorry to hear. as for the dash if the damage is not to bad you can get it plastic welded, legend auto trim use a guy that comes out to you and colour codes/paint it i cant find his number but i have legends number which is 9709 4954. if the damage to the dash is real bad you will need to get it reskinned talk to restor-a-dash there in revesby 9773 4163 and do a good job. as for the H/U brackets go to a wrecker they would be very cheap.

yer no alarm. It was parked in Whiteman st. Next to the tram stop. So many people park there. I was going to park in crown and was lucky to find a park outside. i was actually unlucky. My girlfriend cried. Poor girl had to sit in the car with glass everywhere. I couldnt drive more then 1500rpm. due to the missing safc.

Police said this was a very common area for smash and grabs. They should have a sign there. I bet that would work.

Alarm is now installed. Thanks for the input guys. will try get it welded.

What kind of paint is used to creat that rubber look on the trim? I was thinking of giving it a crack myself.

**edit, also who can do plastic welding in melbourne area?**

sure sucks. well ive sort of recovered. picked up 2nd hand dash surround, gearstick and all the trim for $225. bit of a rip off from wreckers. and got my new deck that i got for my bday. also my alarm is installed.

still have a destroyed trim that i might take to dash doctor, see how much it costs to fix up.

I dont know if its ok or not to throw a 'shameless free plug' to the guys at Jap Import Distributors (08 8266 0212) who helped me out with parts after my break in, they were really helpful, and after hearing why I needed the parts they gave me really good prices too, and posted it all to tas. So there you go, a happy ending to my story

dam i sympathise ive had it happen a couple of times with other cars at train stations.. Thats a good idea though with the signs..The cops should have signs that give u a rating of 1-5 stars.. 1 being lots of brake-ins 5 being that your car is almost definitely safe..

oh well at least your car wasnt stolen but hey, its still a bitch

a few of my friends have have their cars broken into in those expensive car parks in the city (melb) and chapel st so whatever you do dont think your car is safe in them.

i remember at the end of the night after clubbing we went back to the car broken glass everywhere dash was rooted and friend in tears, i dont know whats worse getting broken into or paying $20 to get it broken into.

hey are those key chain alarm warning things that tell you what part of the car is getting broken into any good?

Doesn't sound like it was. Seems everyone learns the hard way! Stereo and gadgets first, then install an alarm after they go missing.

Can any one suggest a truthful alarm fitter in Perth?

or recommend someone who can do a good job?

Have you already bought your own alarm? I went to Alberts and they would only install the alarm they sell, hence I got an electrician recommended by my mech to install. He did a good job :)

    • Hey all, not sure how active SAU is anymore but will ask away anyways. Just wanted to get some experience on the 2008 model GTR CBA model.  I've hit that age in my life (43) where I'm like fk it time to get my dream (midlife crisis) car. Looking at importing one in and seeing if these can be reliable if the main flaws are fixed up. Plan is to keep money aside to do the following straight off the bat to future proof it: * install a stage 1 rebuilt trans with all new bits and pieces.  * install a new Bellhousing from the later model GTRs. Or potentially an upgraded stronger version like MAD or ATR. Besides the above two things and typical maintenance items anything else you'd recommend doing.   Been speaking to a few people and the engine on these are very reliable apparently. But keen on the view of the community here. Hoping to find a nice grade 4.5 with low mileage in Grey. I'd go black but swirls too easy. Look forward to your responses and feedback. Cheers
    • Do Alan and Keith work on Skylines now? I remember buying stuff from them when I owned my Ralliart Lancer a few moons ago. Definitely genuine guys and be excellent if they dealt with the skyline platform as well.
    • Hey all, I'm Gaston from Sydney's West.  I was a member on here when I was a younger lad and owned a mint R33 GTS-T. Ended up selling it and getting married having kids (yadda yadda) we all know how the story goes. Now I'm back with the intention to get my midlife crisis (dream) car ... a R35 GTR.  You'll see me about asking questions and searching the forums. Good to be back and can't wait to get back an Import again.
    • I have to put something here in order to post the photos. From what I could gather there's more enthusiasm for modified cars now than there has been for years. There were probably more younger people there than older (me included lol) which was a good sign.  It did seem like the record least amount of representation of the 90's era hero cars on display though. Like maybe one or two examples of S-chassis Nissans, and maybe 3 or 4 R-chassis. By comparison there were a lot of Civics from that era but in all there were about 10 - 12 EG/EK Civic Type R.  Euro exotics are always there in large numbers, led by Liberty Walk...... say what you will about kids using markers to scribble on a Ferrari F40, it did seem like a stunt to infuriate Ferrari enthusiasts, or Ferrari itself. I wonder if there's something more to it. Either way LBWK have done some heinous things to a Lamborghini Miura this time. They should stop now.
